We knew it’d be pretty tough to top last blogiversary’s prize of $2,500 worth of swag, but this year we somehow wrangled an adventure and luxury filled Virginia vacation worth an estimated $3,000 for you guys! Virginia is for Lovers, the fine folks who promote tourism in our home state, just started a new series featuring real Virginians… and they actually asked to profile us for it! We had so much fun during our day trip to Virginia’s Eastern Shore – complete with beach time, antiquing, fresh seafood, and even paddling in kayaks to a vineyard. And now, for one lucky winner and a guest from anywhere in the world, they’re recreating that trip with a ton of bonuses like airfare, charming bed & breakfast stays, a car rental, and extra adventures… like hang gliding!
In addition to covering round-trip airfare and a car rental, this weekend prize pack includes one night each in two historic and charming bed & breakfasts: The Inn at Onancock and Cape Charles House.
After days chilling on the uncrowded beaches or perusing the quaint towns, you’ll need to eat right? So the package also includes a meal at three waterfront restaurants that have fresh seafood-stocked menus: Shanty, Mallards, and The Island House Restaurant.
Taking it easy is the main name of the game on the Eastern Shore, but this package does include a couple of activities to get your adrenaline pumping and the wine flowing. There’s a Wine Kayak Tour where the guides from SouthEastern Expeditions will help lead you through some peaceful waterways to a wine experience and tasting at Chatham Vineyards. And if that doesn’t get your heart racing, how about hang gliding for two with Virginia Hang Gliding?
We’re so excited that one of you is going to win such a fun-filled trip to our home state. Please use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter (it might take a second to load, but it should eventually pop up below this paragraph). This prize is available to anyone in the world 18 years or older and can be redeemed anytime in the next year (since the activities are seasonally dependent, you may wish to come in the warmer months). And for anyone who misses the freebie bonus question, we started one over here in Forums so you can sound off and see what everyone else thinks on the subject.

Just read the entry in your Family Blog about the photo shoot in Cape Charles. Now I know someplace a certain two-year-old will be visiting soon. Did you guys get to do the hang gliding as well? I understand that takes lots of prep time before you ever get in the air (if you ever get in the air).
YoungHouseLove says
We wish! We didn’t get to do that, but it sounds like so much fun!

When my husband and I got married, he was in the Army stationed at Ft. Bragg in NC but we got married in PA. Since it was on the way back to NC, we had our (very short- weekend long) honeymoon at the Inn at Onancock and loved it! The room was lovely and the food was Delicious!

This would be a wonderful 5 year anniversary trip for my husband and I next year. We never got to go on a honeymoon due to money constraints so this would be a fabulous gift to present to my husband if I win. Thanks for putting it together. Great blog I enjoy reading.

I loved Virginia as a child. My dad grew up and my grandparents lived in McGaheysville…about 10 minutes from Harrisonburg. They lived at the base of a ski resort called Massanutten Village. It was so beautiful up there and I would love to see some of the other sights available in your great state!
Emma says
I need a vacation so badly! And since I’ll hopefully have a baby next year, a trip like this would be close enough it wouldn’t be a hassle to get there but far enough away to feel like I can relax.

(Hey youngsters! Your Cape Charles House hyperlink is broken (I think). Or, not broken, but I think there’s an extraneous younghouselove.com in there. :) Of course, simple to find it the old fashioned way, just an FYI!)

Thanks Alex! Off to fix that!

Yay! Virginia IS for Lovers. After living in Richmond for 20 years, we moved to Philly 2 years ago. We miss VA and all the day trips we could take from Richmond.
Happy Blogiversary! Love reading your blog, not just for all the cool house stuff, but because it makes me feel a little connected to Richmond still. (And gives me ideas for places to check out when we’re in town!)

Fun, fun, fun! Congrats on the blogiversary, and thanks for snagging such an awesome giveaway for your readers. We went kayaking on the west coast a couple years ago, and I would love to do it on the east coast too. And hang gliding? We traveled to Europe last summer and were supposed to go paragliding, but the weather was bad, so it didn’t work out. Would love to try hang gliding instead! I have never been to Virginia other than to fly in to Norfolk and then drive to Outer Banks in NC.

I’m from the Eastern Shore and grew up going to the beach at Cape Charles and at Kiptopeke State Park. I hope you all had such a fabulous time. It’s so cool to see my little town in such a popular blog. It’s quite a gem, often undiscovered by all the main-landers. I graduated from UVA in 2009 and in the UVA magazine for that year they had a map of Virginia with out our sweet peninsula.
Baronica says
I cant see who won? Who was the lucky lover!?
YoungHouseLove says
Wahoo! The winner will be displayed in the Rafflecopter box by the end of the day today, and we’ll link to it in the post tomorrow just to direct people over to it!

Proud to say I was born and raised on Virginia’s little bitty eastern shore. We are very rural, no city life here. But, we have so much to offer. Small towns, friendly faces, great beaches, wild ponies, and some of the best seafood you’ve ever tasted. Thanks so much YHL for the shout out…one more reason to love you guys!
