My luckiest moment was having my coffee maker break on me. When I called the company to see how I could have broken it, they said it was no problem to send me a brand spanking new one. The new one is a new and improved model of what I had….score big.

Joss Me! My luckiest moment came when I purchased an antique hutch (French/Belgian) from the 1800’s at a junk shop for $200! It is solid oak with dovetails.etc and is amazing! It needs some TLC, but is just great!

We started painting our new place in the guest room (complete with a chair rail and crown molding), later it became our nursery. Since after much debated we agreed to paint it two shades of green, and we ended up having twins (a boy and girl), we didn’t have to repaint when it was time to transform the room from guest to nursery, yay!

My luckiest find just recently happened! My husband and I had been looking for an inexpensive dresser that we could fix up for our soon to be born baby and we found someone selling TWO dressers, which means we get one too! I can’t wait to get them sanded and painted!

We are in the thick of home-improvement since we just purchased our first home this month and have already: pulled the carpets and floors ourselves, pulled baseboards, painted EVERY wall, am mostly done painting the oak kitchen white and am 2 drawer pulls into the hardware project… plus more. Crazy town!

My best decorating luck happened after I’d lost all my furniture (it had been lent to someone while I was out of the country and was left outside in a rainstorm.) I got a beautiful vintage dresser and matching bedframe on the free section of craigslist. It still needs a little bit of refinishing, but putting in new bottoms for the drawers and cleaning it with wood soap’s made it look really good with relatively little effort. The furniture is dark wood with mother-of-pearl inlays.

My luckiest home improvement moment would have to be the first one I did. Since we are military and just rent our homes for now I have to be statisfied with small changes. BUT our landlord here is okay with us buidling fences, painting walls, ripping up bushes etc. But our first home improvment project was ripping up some bushes to free up a pathway to our front steps and create an extra one in the flower bed we would create by laying down rocks and then slabs to create a path. It took us forever to dig it up( we had already planted flowers near it and at first we were trying to not kill it) and we worried once it was missing…” what have we done”..BUT we found nifty items under the bush, once it died we used the bush to have a bonfire and make smores and the new path works out well when someone parks to close to the edge of driveway. Can just use path in rocks instead of having to squeeze by the vehicle and get smooshed into a bush or walk allll the way around.

My luckiest moment was when my husband and I had to sell our first home. I was 9 months preggers with our second child and I went into labor on the morning of our first open house… Luckily our house was ready the night before. I had my baby girl later that day and we had a second open house the following day. We walked in our home on Monday morning after been released from the hospital and all I could think about was how was I going to keep this house clean with a newborn and an 18 month old boy?!?! Just then our realtor called “we have an offer on your house at full price!”

hmm. my luckiest house improvement/find? i guess since i moved back in with my grandparents (sort of helping them out while i needed to get back on my feet kind of deal), i have come to accept the upstairs part of our home as ‘mine’. before i moved out, it was messy, crowded, but when i came back.. things just clicked. my dogs’ crate has an area that it fits well in;the chest with all their things in looks good where it is located. their bed is in a hidey hole in the corner beside the tv stand. it flows well. a bit cluttered, but i love how it feels.

My husband and I are still renting, although we are currently house shopping. Our luckiest house-related moment is when our rent was decreased significantly after 2 years of living here. We live in NYC and that is unheard of. It helped us save so we have the down payment we now have.

My luckiest find were some GORGEOUS couches off of CraigsList. The original owners had purchased them for well over $1200 and let us steal them for $450. They were 7 months old, mint condition. I’ll love them forever.

My luckiest home improvement was finding my house. We had put our house on the market in January nearly 3 years ago. I had found (and lost) the “house of my dreams” or so I thought. As I checked real estate obsessively, I found The Domus on Zillow. I think I screamed when I saw it. I called over my darling dear and said THAT HOUSE! I need to go see THAT HOUSE. I knew the neighborhood and even the street. We had cruised it on our first date in RVA. The fountain, the view of the lake, the terrace overlooking that view…it had me in the pictures. In real life however, words like 40 yrs of nicotine stains, mildew, roof leak, and paneling were more the picture. Yet here we are, 2 years later and loving it! It was the best fortune ever and we still pinch ourselves that we got THIS house, on THIS street, in THIS neighborhood.

Our luckiest home improvement moment was finding out I qualified for the first time homebuyer taxcredit. We were able to use the money to pay for upgrading the concrete slab out back to a stamped concrete patio with a beautiful patio cover. It was the only real improvement needed on our new home which had otherwise been completely updated, and its a space we use almost everyday.
