Our luckiest moment so far was that a seller didn’t sell us a house. Sounds crazy, but we were almost willing to overpay, but she stayed at her unrealistic price and we were able to walk away. Don’t overpay in this market! And buy the house in the worst shape on the best block.

My luckiest moment was easily searching for years for a 1920’s vanity table, only to be given one by a friend of my mother’s unexpectedly. I will never part with it!

Still waiting for my awesome house moment. Maybe saving it for the day when we aren’t being shipped around the world by the Navy and are able to settle down in a house.

I don’t know if these count as a “home” item, but I found two of the kid battery operated jeeps for the backyard for $5 at a garage sale! My kids love racing around the yard in them, and since they retail around $180 each, I was so thrilled!

Joss Me! We really lucked out when our realtor MADE us look at the house we ended up loving! We had no intention of looking at this particular house. Yay for good realtors!

Joss Me! I feel lucky that we really didn’t buy a piece of furniture until we’d been married for about 4 years! All hand-me-downs and dumpster diving really saved some dough!

My luckiest home moment is related to radon. We had a miserable time getting rid of radon in our basement (fortunately, the seller’s paid for remediation out of escrow) and about 10 new pipes weren’t clearing the radon out. Looked like we were going to have to get a system installed into the foundation of the house, but we tried one more pipe… and that last pipe worked! We weren’t optomistic, but I guess it was placed in the exact right place. Woohoo!

“JOSS ME!” Luckiest moment~ finding a $100 bill inside an old Coke bottle in the top of our chimney in need of repair! Woo-hoo!

So far our luckiest home moment was finding out home. When we first saw the house it was priced $30,000 over our budget. A week later they had dropped it. We looked at it on a Sunday and were putting our offer in Sunday night.
Our second luckiest home moment was refinancing to a 15 year 3 years after we bought it. Now our lovely home will be paid off just as our son is graduating high school, vs when we are 60!!!!!!!!!!

No “home” yet to improve, just a nice apartment I found by putting a reverse ad on Craigslist which led the landlord to find my random ad and reach out to me– what we later discovered was that he lived above our unit with his girlfriend who lived next to me in college! (And I went to a really small school…small world). We’re still living in the place so it worked out perfectly!

JOSS ME! This is an amazing giveaway for a couple who is still decorating the home they purchased last year. It was the first home we saw and we knew it deep in our souls the minute we walked in. It’s nice to see a year later that a very, very similar ranch, about 10 houses down, is being sold for $77,000 more than we bought ours for. Great equity, but meaningless since we plan to raise our children and grandchildren at the Ranch….but good to know none-the-less!

JOSS ME!!! My luckiest home ownership moment was when we tried our hand at tiling (borrowing a tile saw) and ended up doing a fantastic job on our kitchen countertops and creating the prettiest backsplash behind the sink! =D

I’m only a condo-renter, not yet a home-owner, but I love finding a good deal on new home decor at TJMAxx and Marshall’s, and I love re-purposing and re-painting hand-me-down furniture! So many things in my condo have new life because of me, a coat of fresh paint and new hardware! :)

Actually I got extrodinarily lucky, our neighbors (who were crummy neighbors) got evicted and left their AHHHH-MAZING metal table I have loved since they moved in, in their trash heap. It needs some lovin’ but it’s sooo beautiful, I can’t wait to get out there this weekend and fix it!!

If we had gotten the house we thought was perfect for us, we would never have our current home – which is absolutely perfect for us. Such disappointment led to great luck!

Joss me! I found our house in a day – it dropped into our price range parameters and that day we looked and made an offer.

The luckiest moment I have ever heard was not for me, but for my best friends. They bought an old Sear “kit” house, and the were having trouble with the duct work. They hired a guy to come take a look and clean them out. He was using this giant vacuum thing to clean them and called out to my friend “uh, sir…can you come in here for a minute?” When my friend walked in, he saw the technician pulling fistfuls of money out of the wall. They found $14,000 total in the wall. It was awesome!

JOSS ME!! We luckily got left an old armoire and door from the old owners of our house that we were able to refinish and use in our house! Gotta love free stuff :)
