My luckiest moment was a few months ago, our house was 1 of 50 picked to be a part of a Neighborhood Home Energy grant. We got approximately $8k worth of insulation for free!

We moved into a house built in 1940 about a year ago. It was covered in wall-to-wall carpet and we weren’t sure if it was to cover up horrible wood floors or just because the owners liked carpet. We totally took a gamble and we lucked out–the original wood floors were in perfect condition–no stains or anything. It saved us a bundle and our house looks great!

Luckiest home find was our home. We move in next month. Our house was on the market for over 9 months, but we see lots of DIY potential there. Plus we got it for much, much less than they were asking.

My luckiest find was a fabric-y piece of art I found in front of someone’s house on garbage day right down the street! I’ve used it in my last three rentals and I still think it’s beautiful :)

I am excited about this giveaway because we rent instead of own, which means most of my decorating must be done thru accessories or decor that can be moved from one home to another without too much hassle.
Love the blog!

My luckiest moment was when I found a chandelier I had been wanting for $3 at Habitat for Humanity! I first spotted one like it at my aunt’s house and ooh’ed and aah’ed over it and was told it was salvaged from a 100+ year old farmhouse (they’re in the restoration business and have super neat stuff I drool over) so I had no hopes of finding one like it… at the same Habitat I bought a $400 farm-style faucet for $35 (attached to a mint cast-iron sink!) so maybe my luckiest home improvement moment was when I found that Habitat near my new house! Sadly, we are moving 1800 miles away from it :(

Joss me please! My luckiest rental improvement moment was when I realized that the craigslist in Toledo Ohio (where I’m from) is chock full of awesome midcentury items on the cheap. The extra bonus here is that my parents are always kind enough to drive pick up said items and then haul ’em to NYC. Gotta love my mom & dad!

Joss me! Our nursery is light blue and sage green and when we found out it was a boy, we knew we needed to add some slight baseball accents for my baseball-obsessed husband! EVERYTHING baseball is red, white and blue so I thought we were doomed! However, at a random Home Goods stop I found the perfect baseball canvas that matched the greens and blues! If my pregnant belly would have permitted, I would have been jumping up and down in the aisle for much longer than I did!

Just recently we have been DIYing our roof and we didnt have enough tarp to cover the entire roof so one side was totally open to the elements and of course the weather channel was calling for…rain! So we prayed really, really hard and it ended up raining everywhere in the area except for the end of our road where our house is! We got so lucky and the big man upstairs was really lookin out for us! :)

I had my heart fixed on a chandelier (for our entryway) at Lowe’s. My husband and I put off getting it, actually for quite awhile. When he finally went back to get it as a surprise gift for me it was discontinued. They had one left on display and that was it… they even checked several other locations. He ended up scoring the display for 60% off!

My luckiest moment was when my family got a great house that was kept a secret on the market! The seller didn’t want to sell it to just anyone~ it’s a complicated story. And I was lucky enough to get to put a lot of paint and sweat into that house :)

I’m not sure I can name a luckiest moment, but just this past weekend my hubby and I scored a new patio set at Lowes for $300 less than its original price. The chairs were on clearance, plus we were pleasantly surprised to get an additional 10% off, because hubby is in the Army. Can’t beat it, and it looks LOVELY on our back porch.

My perfect house score was just two weeks ago. A table and chairs I had been salivating over at World Market was being discontinued and the manager offered me HALF OFF ALL OF IT if I would take it out of her store that day! I had been staring at this set for over a year. I guess sometimes it pays to wait! I am so happy I’m still smiling, and so is my wallet!

My recent lucky moment was mixing the perfect gray-purple shade for my bathroom after combing a number of paint samples from other rooms…finally, my indecision and pickiness (thereby resulting in always buying many samples) paid off in the form of a room that was free to paint!
