We were able to nab our house for a steep discount since the sellers were desparate. Our inspector told us that he wanted to value it at 25-35K more than what we were paying AND other realtors still call ours asking why it was so cheap whenever it pops up on comps!

My luckiest moment happened when I scored my house for much less than the asking price….I suppose having it sit on the market for over a year made them very eager sellers :)

JOSS ME! My most lucky day was when my mother and I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood, just weeks before I was to move into my own place and found not one, but TWO items at the curb that I could use for my new place! I snagged an antique wicker chest- complete with brass embellishments and a perfectly aged eggshell colored set of drawers! It was a lucky day!

JOSS ME. I would love to have this one. I would give it to my son and daughter-in-law for their one year anniversary. They would love it.

Hopefully winning this will be the luckiest house decorating moment I will have (fingers crossed)! But up till now – it was scoring an uber expensive buffet from the Restoration Hardware outlet for 85% off (seriously!) and it only had 1 tiny tiny tiny ding on the back of it- crazy!

Our luckiest home related moment was when we were moving and I tripped running down the stairs but they were moving the mattress up and I landed on the movers and the mattress!

When my husband and I were house hunting, we’d found a place one day during an open house that we thought had a lot of possibilities — so we scheduled a private showing the following day with our realtor so he could see it too. He suggested we stop by a few other listings in the area for comparison, and one of the houses on the list my husband really didn’t want to go see (he thought the house looked old and dingy on the listing) but I convinced him to go since we’d already be in the neighborhood. The “old and dingy” house ended up being exactly what we were looking for!! We made a crazy low-ball offer the next day, and they accepted! Luckiest day, ever.

I found two end vintage bamboo end tables on the side of the road. They needed some TLC, but with a little work, they now perfectly match the bamboo bar I inherited from my grandparents. It was pure luck I happened to take a detour and came across them.

My luckiest home improvement was realizing that my kitchen had been previously remodeled and moving the gas range to the wall I wanted wouldn’t require hiring a plumber to move the gas line. All be had to do was remove the pipe that was extending the line. We saved money and the project moved much faster!

This summer I was looking for barstools for my first college apartment (wo-hoo!) After striking out on Craigslist and at yard sales I eventually found four metal black stools (exactly like the ones in Towne & Reese’s office!) on clearance for $17.99 at my local Meijer. Because I had two BOGO coupons, the total for four of the stools was under $40. Score!

getting my house was somewhat lucky (although it would have been luckier if it had gone on the market just a little earlier so I could have gotten the rebate). I had been looking on and off for a couple of years and never found the right place, but then I went to an open house one sunday, just to kill time, and fell in love!

I scored a gorgeous antique wood buffet on Craigslist for the tune of $200. While the price was pretty good, the best part was that when we got to the owner’s house to pick it up, it turned out to be one of the GoGos (as in Manic Monday band)! Now we call it the buffet-a-go-go.

Our luckiest moment is very similar to those posted above: the house we bought went on the market only a few weeks before the $8000 tax credit expired. We were one of the first to go through the house, and they accepted our offer right away. Great timing!
We are expecting our first kiddo in December, so I’m starting to look for thrifty ways to decorate a nursey.
