JOSS ME!!!!!!!!!!! My luckiest-when my parents gave me the chest of drawers from when I was a baby. It was my grandparents when they were first married-now its for my boys. When I opened the first top drawer it had the baby patterned wall paper the was put in there like contact paper from my nursery as a baby…it even smelled like I remembered…

My favorite home score ever was when I found my bedside lamps. I absolutely adore Fred Meyer (one of our NW big box stores). It’s a lot like Target, with nicer stuff for affordable prices. Well, one day in the spring I was trolling their home decor sections, and saw the new summer display. Well, there were these lamps. Heeeeell-oooo. Perfect color for my room, shapely but not too curvy lines, quirky design, hand-painted scrolly motif, and square bell shades that I love. (I managed not to drool on the floor.) But, at $50 a pop, I had to move on.
Knowing how Freddie rolls, I just watched and waited. I went to the store about twice a week for groceries, et al, and so I let the weeks tick by, and would visit my lamps at least once weekly. Slowly (very slowly) they sold, but slowly enough that I had reason to hope they would outlast the season.
Then, one day, I went to visit them, and they weren’t there! NOOOO!!!! I hunted up and down the aisles, looking high and low . . . all of that summer line had been clearanced, and most of it was gone. Just a few things left on a small end cap, marked way, way down. I choked back a sob, and kept looking. Just as I felt ready to give up, I caught a glimpse of squared-off bell shades up on a top shelf tucked in a corner. There they were . . . and there were THREE left! Rushing over, (but trying very hard to NOT look like I was rushing over; I didn’t want to start a run on my lamps), I glanced nonchalantly at the price tag . . . marked down 75%! YES!
Two of them quickly found a snuggly home in my cart (as yet empty, because I always went to visit the lamps first–wouldn’t want them to think they were at the bottom of my list, ya know?), where they garnered compliments for the rest of my shopping.
The best part of the story? My DH was floored that I scored two lamps for half the original price of ONE. We’ve had them for several years, and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of them. Mwah, my lovelies! :o)

My luckiest moment has to be the sectional couch left behind by my landlords. It’s so ugly, but so comfortable. And it was free, it makes me happy!

I wouldn’t say our luckiest…because it caused us immense headaches before, but def. our smartest home improvement move was to build up a patio outside with bricks and stones so our family room(added on addition a tad lower than the rest of the house) stop flooding when we had massive spring and summer storm.

Luckiest moment came in the form of an original Eames Herman Miller shell chair that I completely restored; it only cost me $20 (plus the damaged skirt I was wearing when I lugged the fiberglass shedding chair home – totally worth it) :)

My luckiest home improvement would have to be this very unattractive oak dresser that was given to me due to my friend from college thinking it was too ugly for his college apartment. Three coats of white pain, a soft stencil, and 14$ of new hardware later I have an beautiful dresser that people always mistake for one from pottery barn and a new passion for revamping old furniture. So glad I saw past the surface look to see the potential!

Honestly I don’t believe in luck…I pray for favor and that I’m always in the right place at the right time! One of my “favor” moments was when we went shopping for a fireplace for our bedroom. We’ve always wanted one…..nothing like getting into bed (in the middle of winter) in a toasty bedroom!! Not only did we find what we wanted at half off the original price but we also offered $50 less and they accepted it.

I needed 7 yds of a fabric to make 2 panels and a valance for our playroom. Local Jo’ann’s only had 6 yds and next closest had 5 according to “the computer”. Thankfully a great employee actually measured out what they had (on a Saturday) and found 7 1/2 yds so I could use my 50% off one cut of fabric coupon. Plus she gave me the discounted price that wasn’t automatically working since she was “sure” it should be on sale! $30/yd fabric for $10/yd. Woo-hoo!!

My most recent luckiest home improvement moment was scoring a great dining table, 6 chairs AND a buffet from my brother-in-law’s mother…FOR FREE!!! I’d like to have the chair cushions redone (not something I can DIY, unfortunately) but I figure that w/ the $$ I saved from not having to buy something off of Craigslist, I can use it towards reupholstering the chairs ;)

JOSS ME – My luckiest… or no so luckiest home improvement moment came in February when our home burned down. I know, crappy to say that was lucky, right? I have to look at it that way, though. Now we’re getting ready to rebuild and we NEVER would have built a house on our own if the fire hadn’t occurred.

Luckiest moment was finding our rental house. We were paying $725 to share a house where we lived in the basement. When we saw a listing for a single family house on acreage for only $800 we knew there would be pitfalls (mice, main heat source a wood stove, no natural light in kitchen) but this living situation is cheap enough to be tolerable while we save for a down payment. and we don’t have to share with anyone else!

JOSS ME EEEEE!
We are in the middle of a terrible move in a terrible heat wave, with 3 days of no home in between our places. Our luckiest moment is totally sad- it involves getting the last storage unit and free use of a moving truck…

One of my luckiest moments was actually due to you guys! During your vacation you showed a picture of an olllld lamp in an antique store and threw out the idea of turning it “industrial” by painting it chrome/stainless. *AH HA!* I have one of those lamps in a tarnished gold that was passed down by my grandmother and is currently sitting in a room at my parents house neglected and unused. Guess who picked up a fab can of spray paint TODAY? ;-) Can’t wait, I know exactly which space it will complete!
