My luckiest moment was finding our house! It was within our price range but we had to beg for a showing and almost didn’t go because it was outside our desired area. We kept pushing and we’re happy it’s home now!

We we’re lucky to get a home with the most beautiful hardwood floors. I have always dreamed about gleaming hardwood throughout the house but I didn’t bargain for the hours and hours spent sweeping/dust mopping. Lucky (again) for us that a good friend turned us on to a vacuum designed for hardwood floors.
I love your site and I’m warming my husband up on the idea of a DIY console. Thanks for sharing. :)

My luckiest moment was finding my perfectly comfortable grandma floral couch at the local thrift store for $40!!! I had inheretid my grandmas floral couch when I first moved out and sadly many years later had to retire it to the big living room in the sky….We went through another couple couches and they were never the same…on a whim I went to the thrift store just to look around and there it was!!!!

This weekend a spur-of-the-moment trip to an estate sale earned me a great old cedar chest to try my hand at refinishing. And since it was the last day, it was 50% its already super-low price!

My luckiest moment in DIY-ership is taking a big deep breath and ripping the nasty carpet out of my office not knowing what awaited me. All I knew was it had to go. Unlucky me–there was particleboard nailed to the original hardwood. Lucky me–original hardwood!

We were incredibly fortunate to inherit almost the ENTIRE house of my grandmother – including a gorgeous dining room table, a wall cabinet to house all our pretty things, 2 couches, end tables galore … set us up just perfectly right when we moved into our first house. :)

I’d have to say the luckiest I know if is actually hanging in my friend’s apartment. When her mom was diagnosed with cancer, some of her other friends and I pitched in to fold 1,000 paper cranes in just three weeks! It was a true labor of love. Sadly, my friends mom did pass away, but we strung the cranes together on thread and my friend has them hanging in her bedroom as a reminded of all the people the love her and were rooting for her and her mom now and always.

I found the most amazing deal on a side table from the wisteria outlet… sale on top of sale added up to big savings on a side table I’d been eyeing for months, but just couldn’t justify! even the cashier said “WOW!” when she rang it up. and it looks great in my entryway!

We recently found our perfect dream couch while grocery shopping at costco! We had been looking since xmas but everything was too pricey. The timing couldn’t have been any better either because my aunt & grandma both sent us $300 a piece as a wedding gift and the couch was $775! We love our new sectional!

Luckiest? Repainting an old cabinet with scrollwork over a glass front.. Newspaper stuck to the scrollwork and WOULD NOT come off after painting. I had a *wee* bit of a temper tantrum, broke off a piece of the scroll and quickly realized that I liked it better with just a glass front. *CLINK* Cheers to hissy fits & semi-destructive behavior. : )

Our luckiest home ownership moment started right at the beginning when we made an offer on our home, sight unseen. Two other offers on homes that we thought were perfect had just fallen through, and we didn’t want this one to slip through the cracks as well. Our realtor saw it, gave it the thumbs up, and it was ours! The luckiest part is that we LOVE our neighbors and our school district, even though initially we were only looking at the structure. Wahoo, now we really can live here forever!

We had a HUGE tree fall on our first home just 5 months after we moved in. While it was really scary because we were home and watched it fall, we weren’t injured and our house was still (mostly) livable. I’m an “always try to find the silver lining” kinda gal, so I quickly realized that repairing the damage from the tree meant getting a new roof (the old one was on its last leg anyway), replacing our horrid yellow siding with something more our style, and getting a complete bathroom remodel – all things that would have taken us YEARS to do!!! Thanks heavens for homeowners insurance!!
Jessica says
JOSS ME! Nothing ever super lucky happens to us, except everytime we go visit my grandfather, we leave with more than what we came there with. Once it was my grandmother’s hope chest (VERY old and handmade), then a rocking chair, last time a queen-size completely hand-stitched quilt that my grandmother had made, and this time we left with some giant yellow squash to make for dinner. :)
Carly says
Joss Me! I randomly picked a color for our bathroom walls that I later discovered perfectly complemented the pics and towels we already owned. so thats one room that won’t need a re-do! haha.

My luckiest home improvement moment came when my partner’s brand new co-worker (who had just furnished a FABULOUS apartment) had to suddenly move across the country. She couldn’t afford/didn’t have time to move everything with her- so she sold us her stuff for a mere $400. Our place went from basically empty to fabulously furnished in one day! Amazing.

My luckiest moment was when we backed out of buying a new construction home at the last minute because we found our dream home all dolled up and ready to go. Months later the builder went under and that neighborhood is still only half way complete & a total mess!! PHEWWWWW

Luckiest home moment…our last home sold before it was even listed. My husband announced at work that we were moving to Austin and someone he worked with said, “I want to buy your house.” My husband’s reply was, “Don’t you mean you want to look at my house.” He said, “No, I want to buy your house.” And he did, for our asking price, waiving the option period. We closed in less than 3 weeks – no inspections, no repairs, no headaches!
