This week we’re giving away a totally customized painting from a special group of artists. Wanna meet ’em? Allow us to introduce Blitz, Minnow, and Boomer: the artists in residence at Painting Pony. Yes, I said artists.
If the paintbrushes in their mouths weren’t proof enough that these Chincoteague Ponies know their way around a canvas (I know, I was a bit skeptical at first too), just check out the colorful artwork they create with the help of their trainer Kyley DiLuigi.
Not only do they create one-of-a-kind pieces (with a unique backstory, no less) they also let you add some input about the painting before it’s made, so it’s sure to complement your home. You get to pick the background color and up to four paint colors to be used AND you get to choose which four-legged artist creates it. Kyley also throws in a CD with photos and/or video of it being whipped up.
If you wanna see these artsy horses in action there’s a video of the painting process (as well as other tricks) on the Painting Pony website. Oh, and be sure to check out their rockstar Dachshund sidekick Ammo. Burger so wants to meet him someday.
Now on to the details for the prize (and stay tuned for another special offer on Thursday):
- PRIZE: A custom 16″ x 20″ canvas by Painting Pony as described in this Etsy listing.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PONY UP” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …since this week’s prize is all about ponies with amazing tricks up their sleeves, why not tell us about another animal trickster you’ve been wowed by (whether its a skateboarding dog you spotted on YouTube or maybe even some amazing feat your own pet pulled off).
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 15th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the world!
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

I love how my ragdoll cat climbs door frames like a squirrel! I don’t like repainting them though!

It’s probably not so new, but it never ceases to amaze me when I see a dog carrying its own leash in its mouth! It always looks like the dog is walking itself.
Meghan says
PONY UP! I’ve tried numerous times to teach our dog to do anything special/cool–it never works. :)
Alison says
PONY UP! I’m always amazed that our tiny cat Willow can jump over 4 ft off the ground. She’s something!

I’ve got no animal stories for you though.

Pony up! My husband were out walking around downtown one night and we ran into a guy and his very well trained dog. This dog would do whatever trick the guy told him to do. He even jumped up onto a fire hydrant barely staying on, but would stay there until his owner told him it was okay to get down. Needless to say we were impressed.

Was at the beach this weekend and saw a dog that would use its paws while moving and scooting in circles and all sorts of directions to move a too bit for him piece of driftwood into the water. As soon as the wood was in the water the dog would immediately pull it back out across the sand to repeat the process again. We were entranced by the “show”.

PONY UP! i was so amazed that those beautiful art works are painted by a horse!! my sign sagittarius the archer, half man half horse, and my chinese zodiac is also a horse. signs are in my favor!! i would love to win!!!!
Callie says
PONY UP!!! Well, I haven’t seen any new or exciting animal feats as of late, but I have a cat that I swear is out to kill me…he darts between my legs every time I walk into the bathroom, which means I inevitably fall.

Maybe I could teach my dog to paint like this…that would be much better than his other non-productive tricks!

Pony up! My wife and I rescued a dog named Frank last year. He’s an all around goof – but our favorite “trick” is his Ghandi-esque practice of peaceful resistance. Any time we want him to do something he doesn’t want to, he falls down and rolls onto his back.

Pony Up! I love this idea. Being a huge animal lover and volunteering at a rescue, it is only fitting my home is decorated by animals too.

I love horses and am continually amazed at the things they learn. From cutting cows to the artistry of dressage to these ponies painting – they are beautiful, talented animals! A trick? My family’s German Shepard – Annie – has learned how to let herself in and out of the house…Crazy dog!
Sarah P. says
PONY UP! My childhood pet cat, Sammy, was an indoor/outdoor cat (we lived in the country). Whenever she wanted to come inside she would ring the doorbell. Seriously. She would jump up on the porch ledge and rub her head against the doorbell. She was a genius!

I love how my chorkie (chihuahua/yorkie) “tricks” me into not putting her into her crate by curling up in a ball before I’m about to leave the house.
Sonora Hannah says
Pony Up!I didn’t actually teach them to do this, but my dogs Murphy-Roo and Kira used to go down to the river behind our house to play and one day they were caught diving into the water from an overhanging tree branch. They would jump in, swim out, and jump back in repeatedly! These two also taught themselves to herd cows… without permission! Haha!
Tricia B. says
PONY UP. My friend’s little poodle can jump up about 3 feet. I think that’s pretty cool…
Kay says
PONY UP! If you haven’t watched the video on Skidboot, the amazing dog in Texas, you must watch it!!! So good.
Erin says
PONY UP! I’m always amazed by my fiance’s parent’s dog, Georgie. She will leap over ANYTHING, including the sofa and fences – never thinking of what’s on the other side! And she has been known to climb a tree in their backyard (it slopes just enough for her to get a grip) and then jump out of it. Trying to fly, perhaps?

We had a Golden Retriever that was so excited every morning to run out and get the newspaper out of our driveway. I brought joy to him and us! He would get so excited we couldn’t open the door fast enough. He would also get us our slipper when we asked :) We miss him dearly.

Actually, the other animal talent that I love are along the same lines – the painting elephants in Thailand. Very cool idea.

My favorite trick of all time from my dog is not just one trick…if she catches a glimpse of you holding a treat for her she’ll go through every single one of her tricks before you have a chance to open your mouth!
I also love how she “high-fives”!
Tina says
I loved watching Flatnose on Johnny Carson back in the 80’s. The dog would actually climb a tree. I can still hear the owner saying “Get up that there tree Flatnose” and see Carson keeling over with laughter!
Haylie says
Pony up! pick me!

PONY UP! I love how convincing my Jack Russel is at getting guests to play fetch with her. She just appears with her ball and keeps nudging it closer until it’s finally in the person’s hands. She’s good! But once you’ve started, you’ll be throwing it to her for an hour : )

Our little Luke can’t really do any of the normal tricks but our favorite is when he puffs out his chest and puts his front paws on the back of the couch. We call it the “george washington”.

Pony up! They are so cute and cool!

I have to say, one of the best animal tricks I ever saw is the video of the dog who says “I love you.” I think I saw it on YouTube a couple years ago.

Best “trick” my hound dog would do is during winter when he was done being outside (we live on a farm so he would run at his leisure) he would let himself in the house. He had figured out how to make the lever handle on the door work. Unfortunately he didn’t learn to close the door so sometimes he let quite a bit of cold air in….

Readers Digest featured a surfing pug in a recent issue. We have a pug…they’re stubborn and it can be challenging to get them to do anything they aren’t inclined to do, so I was suitably impressed seeing the surfing pug in water goggles and everything.

Pony up! It is nothing miraculous, but our 2 cats know how to let themselves in and out of our sliding screen door! It is nice that they can do that instead of letting us listen to the constant meow at the door when they want to be let out or come in!

PONY UP!!
I have a little chihuahua named Minni, and I’ve been working on his tricks…trying to get him to roll over. Well, I succeeded…but, the only thing is…he ALWAYS rolls over! I bribed him with food, so everytime we eat dinner now he is constantly rolling over. It’s pretty funny, but I feel bad for the Minster! :)

Wow this is pretty awesome… maybe I should teach my dogs to paint.. I can see some big money in the future!! :)
The coolest thing my dog does now is do about 15 circles in a row when he is excited to go outside!

PONY UP!!
My dog doesn’t do tricks. So I was amazed to watch a 3 month old pup walk a circle on his hind legs frontwards and then backwards.

We once had a cat named Emma, who was a very good hunter. She left us a “present” under the Christmas tree once and the week our first daughter was born left us a “present” at the front door. She was a good cat!
