***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***
Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!
You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.
So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!) so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:
-
The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
-
The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
- A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
-
The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
-
A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
- The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)
- PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

“FURNISH ME!” I think my favorite piece of furniture is our gorgeous, king-sized, 4-poster bed that I found on craigslist and repainted. Although my husband’s favorite piece of furniture is probably a round wood dining table set that our neighbors gave to us for free when they moved. Score!

I absolutely adore the chairs I re-did from the 1920’s. They were in bad shape sitting up in the attic, and I re did them with a coat of shiny white paint and a killer fabric.

One of my favorite pieces is our buffet table. In our open concept living and dining area, it perfectly anchors the space and gives a nod to both the more formal dining and casual living. Plus, I get to use the top of it to display some of my favorite decor items!

My favorite so far is a piece from my husbands grandpa. It’s a tiny little desk that I refinished to go in our daughters room. It was layered with different paints and I love that it has such a past.

I think my favorite piece is the mirror above our fireplace. I got it from lamps plus so it’s certainly not an heirloom, but it looks like a piece of art and it’s one of the first things you see when you walk in the door. It makes me happy.

I love our bedroom set. The dressers are actually the dressers I used as a child; but I stripped them down, refinished them (using your dresser post from Clara’s nursery), and added new hardware. These, with a family bed from my husband’s grandma, make for a GREAT bedroom!

I would use the money to furnish our very first home that we will be moving into hopefully by this fall! We are a military family and have been renters for years now, and have always bought ‘cheaper’ furniture items just to get by….always thinking to wait until we own our first home.
The pieces of furniture that we splurged on and spent a pretty penny have been our boys’ convertible cribs. I look forward to maybe turning one of them into a bench or table someday!
Susan says
FURNISH ME! A couple weekends ago, I scored a vintage entry table from a second-hand store for $25! It has a very unique look, and I’m loving its charm!

Most of our furniture is Target/Ikea since we’re relatively newly married (just over 2 years). But I love the couch & armchair we splurged on for our living room. And we have a dresser & nightstand that were my dad’s growing up and were in my childhood bedroom that I love.
Casey says
FURNISH ME!
I have all hand me downs right now, my favorite being a dresser set from my mom’s boyfriend’s parents. Their original set from when they were first marred. I refinished it & love it!
Jessica R. says
FURNISH ME!
We’re slowly finding our style and getting rid of hand-me-downs and bachelor pad items since we’ve been married but my favorite pieces of furniture are from my grandparents: the dining room table and sideboard are from Ethan Allan and the china cabinet is the one from the farmhouse that my mom grew up in–love all of the history in that piece and love the fact that my mom says she feels at home in our house due to the china cabinet from her childhood.
Desiree says
FURNISH ME!!!! (Pretty please…)
The greatest piece of furniture I own is a dining table handed down to us when my husband and I got married–it’s been in his family for over 100 years. It was in such disrepair that it literally fell apart 5 minutes before a dinner party we were hosting. We’ve since fixed it, but I don’t have the heart to refinish it. The table leaves are all mis-matched due to uneven wear, and the worn patina gives it so much charm I can’t imagine changing it up. We’ve actually had people take pictures of our table because they want to distress theirs to match!
