***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***
Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!
You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.
So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!) so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:
-
The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
-
The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
- A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
-
The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
-
A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
- The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)
- PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

I’m in love with my $60 IKEA desk–it’s long and has handled the insane amount of articles and other junk from grad school pretty well!

I love my son’s crib. It was cheap and from wal-mart, but i love how simple and clean it is in the room! Although I could be partial to it b/c of how sweet he looks when he’s asleep in it.

My favorite piece that we own is our headboard in our master bedroom. I reupholstered it myself and it took a lot of blood sweat and tears.

My favorite piece of furniture is our coffee table. We have had it for years but it is a great solid wood piece that is round with intricate carvings and a glass center piece. I think the style of our living room will always revolve around it.

I once bought an old, very rustic jelly cabinet from craigslist for $40. It has glass doors and I love to store dry goods in jars in it. Also, July 18th just happens to be my birthday, so winning this would be the BEST bday present ever!

FURNISH ME!
It sounds terrible, but I don’t have any pieces of furniture that I absolutely love yet. I’m still in grad school and my hubby and I are about 90% done with a massive reno on our 100 year old house, so furniture is just starting to be on my mind (you know… after less exciting projects like new plumbing and electric).
I think this giveaway could go a loooong way toward filling up my own “good bones” home!

I love this little table my grandmother gave me. It is the size of a console table but is folded so it holds a table and 4 chairs inside. I love it and it has found a home in every home we have been in!

FURNISH ME! My husband would probably say our king bed, considering we have two young daughters who like to crawl into our bed at night, but I think our greatest piece is the dining room table we had made as a gift for our fifth anniversary shortly after we moved into our second house. It was fitting, considering the traditional fifth anniversary gift is wood, although that was just a happy coincidence!

Furnish me! My favorite pieces lately are the little touches – picture frames and DIY art and some awesome yard sale decorate vases I just bought in a perfect shade of turquoise blue.

Furnish Me! I love my dining room table furnished by World Market! Wood in general puts a smile on my face!

The china cabinet I got on clearance from Target. Not terribly fancy, but I love it, it has great storage, and until the hubs is out of the Air Force we are not collecting any “precious” furniture for the movers to abuse.:^)
Valerie says
Furnish me! Our best piece is probably our couches, because it’s the first set of adult furniture we bought as a family. No more particle board or Wal-Mart furniture!

Megan says
FURNISH ME!! My favorite pieces is a dining room table my dad and I built out of an old turquoise door. We framed it and but glass on top and used old stair banisters as the legs. It’s awesome!

I love a marble topped chest that we inherited from my parents. Turns out the marble is from the area of Ireland that my husband’s family is from and someone in my family made the chest for the slab to rest on. Only problem is it is heavy so we almost have to leave it downstairs.
Jillian Hunt says
