With Halloween finally upon us we’re wondering if you guys plan to host parties, attend them, attend them in costume or just answer the door and shove fistfulls of Butterfingers at the three-foot-tall ghosts and goblins ringing your bell. Something about Halloween is especially intriguing to us this year. Maybe because it’s sort of a before and after fest when it comes to your house (our porch and our living room had a little spooky makeover) and even when it comes to yourself (if you’re dressing up there’s a definite transformation that takes place). So tell us all about who or what you’ll be for the night (any Jon & Kate Plus 8s? Or how about those cute kids from the movie Juno?) along with what kind of parties you’re hosting or attending, and most of all, what your kiddos (four-legged or two) are dressing up as. There have been many (many) requests for photos of Burger in his costume so without further ado we present to you… Hamburger the hot dog:
We picked up this little ditty to the tune of $9.99 at Target. And two out of three Petersiks were super excited about the purchase.
If Burger had his way he’d wear it like this…
Jen says
Actually yes! My fiance and I are going as Jon and Kate… just hope we don’t get too into character, the night could end badly lol.
Samantha says
We’re a fly by the seat of our pants group. No idea what we’re doing, but at work I have this going on! http://twitpic.com/nikat
I’m sure Burger would be pleased :) I love his little costume!
Jennifer says
Our dog Baxter will be a hotdog this year too! Although the costumer is funnier with burger wearing it.
Alicia S says
OMG!!! So cute!!
Chelsea says
Ah! Cutie-patotie Burger! He looks so scrumptious, and yet so contradictory. My hubby and I only have non-trick-or-treating children, so no extra free candy in this house. We are going hiking instead, and hoping no black cats cross our path!
Meredith says
My friends and I are going as roller derby girls! We’re all lawyers, so our team name is “Attorneys at Brawl” and we all have appropriate nicknames. I’m kind of excited to do the transformation….
Letty says
Hahaha! I looove Burger’s costume– too cute! I wish my beagle would let me dress him up :(
I’m dressed as a pimp– purple suede hat, lots of “gold” necklaces and a $ sign “gold” ring, shiny shirt underneath my slick suit, feather boa, and of course, a pimp cane covered in zebra material with a disco ball top! I’m dressed like this at my job, and I’m a female attorney. Fun times!
Miranda says
Funny – you say “finally,” I say ALREADY?!?!
We have no major plans, just taking my boys Super WHY (aka 4-y.o. Fletcher) and Davy Crockett (aka 2-y.o. Cormac) Trick-or-Treating.
We attended a Halloween/Harvest/Birthday party for my 3-y.o. niece last weekend. Pumpkin painting, Trick-or-Treat Train, hay ride…
Cathryn says
We buy a dog costume for my parent’s dog every year. Augie is a happy Bichon who loves all the doorbell-ringing on Halloween. He generally does not care for his costume much, though.
Our best for him: a red fire hydrant (also from Target)
His expression in all the Halloween pics is very similar to Burger’s mug. “What did I do to deserve this?”
Valerie (Kyriosity( says
So he’s going as a wiener dog, eh?
Megan says
My halloween costume? Dressing all in black and taping masking tape on my clothes to form a skeleton. Very low maintenance!
But check out my front-yard graveyard…

I love it! Burger makes a very cute hot dog.
Rachel says
My husband and I are staying in, watching scary movies and handing out candy to the neighbor kids.
Tori says
Okay, I’m not going to lie – I literally squealed when I opened this post and saw Burger in a hot dog costume. (The irony is so appreciated!) Thanks for reminding me that somewhere inside me, there is a six-year-old who loves to see puppies in costumes : )
Loren says
Yes! We are hosting our first party as a ‘couple’. Lots of food, drinks, and bad horror movies will be found! I am going as Jubilee (she’s an X-man) and I talked my man into being Gambit (Taylor Kitsch’s character in the Wolverine movie).
We’re real excited and have been working on the Halloween ‘party mix’ all week :)
Sara B says
My friends and I are Lost fans so we are going (in a group of nine) as “Sexy Dharma Initiative.” We bought jumpsuits, cut them up to short shorts, made patches, and name badges, and props. I am so so excited!
Kasey at Thrifty Little Blog says
Target has the best dog costumes!
I’m still deciding between going to one of the parties we were invited to or staying at home and watching movies while stuffing myself with candy. I have a feeling that candy might win out.
denise @ little ant design says
I just finished up my daughters Halloween costume – Jane, a member of the Volturi (from the the Twilight books) I’m pleased with how it turned out – especially the eyes (they cause major freak out for people when the notice them)
You can see the costume here

My husband and I will be hitting the town as Dog the Bounty Hunter and his wife, Beth. And we will be handing out candy with our two cats dressed as a squirrel and a turtle (also purchased at Target). Check out my blog to see their pics :)
Christina says
GAW! That is too cute- and really who doesn’t want both a burger AND a hot dog when at a cookout? Brilliant.
Too cute!
My 2 year is Yoda. He totally rocks it- I will be a mom with a bowl of candy- a perennial favorite.
Jenni says
He’s so cute! Our dogs are dressing as a turtle and a squirrel. :)
Whitney says
Happy Halloween Eve! We have decided against dressing our dog Nimbus up in a costume because he will eat the costume. Guaranteed. As far as the humans in this family are concerned, we’re having friends over for dinner – dressing up of course! – and hitting a Halloween fiesta nextdoor. We’re also going to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. I’m going to dress up as Aphrodite & my husband is going to be the Swine Flu… black wings, black robes, and a pig snout!
Lynn says
OMG! That is the cutest doggy clothing!!! LOVE it!
Sugar Cookie says
Yes, my husband and I will also be dressed up as Jon & Kate for a Halloween party tomorrow night. But today, my co-worker and I dressed up as a couple costume as well – she is a pig and I am a doctor… except that when you put us together (as long as I am wearing my surgical mask to cover my nose and mouth), we are Swine Flu! Pretty clever, we thought. (Unless that offends you… then we are just a pig and a doctor!!)
Mel says
I’m not dressing up, I’m on kid duty, but my daughter dressed up for school today as a sprout fairy. See it here:

My our is dressing up as a creepy Dr. I my hasband is going to wear spooky makeup and take him trick or treating. I’m staying home and will pass out candy and make yummy treats fro them. Our dog Mojo – is getting his costume tonight!
Mallory says
My puppy Lucy has the exact same costume – from Target and everything. Except I procrastinated and picked it up just the other day; at least Halloween stuff was 30% off then. :)
Emalie says
hahah i love burgers costume! we got our chi a dino costume!
p.s. on one of your recent posts i saw a framed silohuete of burger. how did you make that?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Emalie,
That cut out silhouette was a birthday gift I got for Sherry a few years ago. I ordered it from http://www.cutarts.com. It was very affordable for a custom piece!

My friends and I enjoy doing FUNNY homemade halloween costumes, and just partying with each other! i’m going as a tray of sushi complete with wasabi/ginger headband, while my bf is a sushi chef! i’ll be attending the party with a shower loofah, a crayon, and a frog :) Happy Halloween!!!
Sarah says
I was planning to be Where’s Waldo, but a red and white stripe shirt turned out to be hard to find. So i went pink and white and plan now to be Walda…his girlfriend.
Denise L says
I am a school teacher and instead of dressing up in Halloween costumes the school was allowed to dress up as storybook characters. I dressed up as Amelia Bedelia super easy and fun to do! My dog Berkley has a surgeon’s costume complete with a scrb cap :)
Dana says
Our neighborhood has an annual chili cookoff for Halloween every year. Everyone brings their own fave pot of homemade chili to share and costumes are a must. 4yr old Layne will be dressed as a knight. Hubby Steve, 18mo old Everett and I will be white trash family. Hubby tried on his costume last night and I didn’t even recognize him. Go figure, 18mo old got a leg cast today (it’s been a loooong day) that will fit in nicely with his costume!
Danielle@Newlyweds Paradise says
HAHAH!!! So cute! We dressed our babies up also. You can check it out on our blog!

We had a Halloween Party last weekend. Everyone was pretty creative.
Jazmin says
Burger is so cute! we saw that costume at Target, and I showed it to my two year old, who insisted we buy it for her! i told her it was for a doggy and she quickly said to me “buy me dog too!” mmm….no. My 5 year old boy loved “Where the Wild Things Are” movie, and we got him a custom made wolf suit from etsy, so he is going to be “MAX” and my former hot dog is going as princess Jasmine.
you can see our Max here http://www.gibbonsfam.blogspot.com/

City Chic - Jamie says
Super cute! I’m hoping that I don’t eat all of the candy before the trick-or-treaters arrive! Haha, I know better than buying candy before Halloween!
Kari says
Our neighborhood does trick or treat on Halloween proper every year. People go all out; there is a guy down the street who has built a haunted pirate ship in his yard.
The hubster is going to be the swine flu and hand out the candy. I sit in the living room and watch–get to see all the kids in costume, and see them being scared as he jumps out to give them candy. Should be a fun night.

John and Sherry~
Happy Halloween! Cute photos!
We are handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters and then co-hosting a party with another couple. I’m dressing up as Flo from the Progressive Insurance commericals, and my boyfriend is donning a blue button up in honor of the late Billy Mays.
Our dogs have costumes as well, but since they are both 80 lb + yellow labs, we have to look for alternatives to the store costumes. Seagram, our five-year old yellow lab is going to rock a red bandana and be the “sheriff” and Yukon, our 10-month old yellow lab is going to be the bandit in a black bandana.
We used the Better Homes and Gardens template you mentioned earlier to carve one Labrador Retriever pumpkin. =) Thanks for the tip!

It looks like it might rain for Halloween but we’ll still be dressing up. Hopefully the rain will hold off for trick-or-treating. Not sure if my husband with be dressing up but my son is going as Batman, my daughter will be a lion and I’ll be getting out my wedding dress that has been collecting dust in the closet and use it as a princess costume. I did this last year and had a blast wearing it again. The neighbours thought it was a great idea and all the kiddies love it!
Here’s a picture from Halloween last year of me in my wedding dress/princess costume with the kids…

Happy Halloween!
Lisa in Seattle says
Pumpkin carving party with some peeps tonight. Tomorrow is our first Halloween in the house, so we’re staying in and hoping for a big turnout. Didn’t have the time and energy for much more than a graveyard theme in the front yard, but it is *beautifully* lit because the hubs used to do theatrical lighting. He also made a spectre that scares the bedoodle out of me in the *daytime,* so I can’t wait for tomorrow night! No costumes though – it’s tricky enough going up and down our stairs.
KOS! (Keep On S'myelin!) says
I forgot to mention that Burger looks so cute in his costume!

My Mom and I have four rat terriers between us and we are
dressing them up as Hula Dogs, complete with lays and
grass skirts- homemade, and taking a walk around the
neighbors during treat or trick.
Hopefully they will get a few dog treats!

I love Burger’s costume! So cute:)
My son is 3 and picked his own costume for the first time this year. My husband took him shopping, and I think if I went, the result would have been different. Anyway, he’s goign to be Darth Vadar. Ugh. He’s been walking around perfecting that whole “I am your father” thing for weeks. He told me this morning that he can’t wait to be Darth Vadar so he can “get all the bad guys”. I don’t have the heart to tell him he is the bad guy:(
Kyley says
omg u have no idea how much I love Halloween! Like if I had to pick one “holiday” to relive over and over (like groundhog day!) it would totally be Halloween.
Imagine how sad I am now that we just moved into our new house in late August and have taken this long to refinish the wood floors and put furniture on it! not bad enough that we were sleeping on the floor….but GASP I didn’t get to decorate! Even worse I didn’t get to throw the Halloween party I wanted!! And I can’t believe none of my friends are throwing a bash! so sad.
So you can bet that next year I will go all out. For now I will just have to settle for dressing our Dachshund up like a Dinosaur or Dragon whatever he is – and hoping that we get some trick-or-treaters at the door. (I’ve never had a trick-or-treater…I wonder what its like?)
:)
Alaskan Andi says
That is too fun! Thanks for the grins and giggles. We are going to the Anchorage Symphony Halloween Concert. It happens every year and afterwards we get to trick-or-treat through the different floors of the center. It is so fun and wonderful to let the kids walk around in their actual costume and not a costume underneath all the snow gear. Good ol’ Alaska.. such unpredictable weather.

For Halloween we’re moving into our first house!! Woot woot!
P.S. Don’t tell my husband that I’m checking on YHL instead of packing…

Passing out candy to the neighborhood munchkins at my house…… then giving the extra candy to my next door neighbors so I can attend the Halloween parties out on the town! Costume=hostess cupcake from http://www.zoogster.com!

Halloween is not as big in Australia so sadly we can’t buy the fantastic costumes you guys can over in the states. I have managed to rustle up a sailor moon outfit for a friends Halloween house-warming tonight involving an old netball skirt! Bring it on.
Love your blog guys!!

I’m at work, dressed as a gold digger. I have a little gold shovel on a necklace and a gold sparkly ensemble. Although, still normal enough for work. Tonight and tomorrow we’re finally putting on our annual haunted house. It’s taken up my friend’s backyard and is actually very professional looking, despite the low budget non-pros working on it. :) There’s a padded wall room with bouncy floor, morgue with dead bodies, a bedroom with a possessed person and of course the butcher shop, with the butcher and his (chainless) chainsaw. People usually run out screaming at this point, if they haven’t already. If you were in Northern California, I’d invite you. Maybe next time.
