We have about a million things to be thankful for, and you guys are at the top of our list. Thanks for caring to drop in and see what’s going on at our house. Speaking of which, in case you were wondering… this recently happened:
After eating lunch the other day, but before cleaning up the table, Burger snuck into the dining room, climbed up to the table with the help of a chair (!) and snatched half of a baguette that remained uneaten. Knowing he’d be in trouble for it, he immediately sprinted into the closet to devour that hunk o’ carbs in record time. I followed him in – half to make sure he didn’t choke and half to snap this photo with my phone. Just look at those guilty eyes…
All of this is to say: we hope that you have a fantastic Thanksgiving filled with family, food, gratitude, and zero guilt about stuffing your face.
Psst- Since this post is a bit heavy on the Burger, check out this post on Young House Life for some Clara-counts-to-ten action. Couldn’t be prouder!

My cat does the same thing! We’ve come home to pumpkin bread, a baguette, and a FULL bag of bagels hidden in our closet… once she even pulled her blanket over them hoping we wouldn’t find her carb stash!
We’ve since invested in a bread box.
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Haha, classic guilty dog face right there! Happy Thanksgiving :)

Burger is a cutie!! Love the look in his eyes.

Happy Thanksgiving! I once left a half of a ham on the counter and my sweet, bad dog ate the whole thing–cellophane and all. He was very happy. Me? Not so much. :)

Awww Burger!!
Our dog Kali actually devoured an entire box of Krispy cream donuts!! Shortly after, she was diagnosed as diabetic… We’re pretty sure the donuts did her in! She is fine though, we manage her blood sugar with twice a day insulin shots, and she’s just as happy as ever, despite the fact that she will never have another donut… Haha

Aw, so glad she’s ok!

Those eyes look less “guilty” and more “crazed.” I’d think twice about trying to snatch it back, lol!
Angela says
Oh those guilty eyes! My dog used to have them often, until my daughter started eating table food so now he doesn’t have to steal, she shares!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!
I love that photo! Our Bichon puppy found a few cranberries on the floor and has had a blast playing with them (flinging them up in the air & chasing it before eating them), it’s so funny to watch them be naughty sometimes! :)

I had to laugh that Burger ran to the closet…Isn’t it amazing how they know they did wrong and still manage to run and hide..LOL

when i was in high school, my family’s dog (a weimaraner named heidi) got loose in our neighborhood one day. i think my mom had been at the grocery store and was unloading the car. she didn’t realize it at first, but when she did and went outside to call for her/go look for her, heidi came running down the street with a baguette in her mouth! we have no idea where it came from, but it was the funniest thing ever to see. dogs are great!

Reminds me of my little pup!! Except he’s 5 years old. He thinks he’s a puppy though! Happy Thanksgiving!

I walked into our family room while I was cleaning up after our family Thanksgiving hoopla and found my dog ate the remaining half of our Port Wine & Cheddar Cheese Log! Bad dog. No time for pictures with him though – I think it took about 45 second for him to absolutely devour that sucker! Glad to know he’s not the only dog who enjoys Thanksgiving’s treats…
Ashli says
Haha. We left the room for ten minutes, and came back to find our sweet pup had hopped on the table (also with the help of a chair), eaten two plates worth pie scraps, a full bowl of whipped cream, half a banana cake, and was happily working on an untouched pumpkin pie. I wish we had thought to get a picture of her up on the table with that guilty look in her eyes!!
Erin says
Its amazing how fast they run when they’re up to no good.
Jenna @ Homeslice says
Haha, that is so funny! He sounds like a fun dog.

Our old dog once stole a freshly tenderized steak off the counter. I warned my DH not to leave it so close to the edge…but alas. The dog had the steak and was out the back door into the abyss of the backyard so fast…and DH went to bed hungry. I was in NYC visiting my sister, so all I got was an annoyed text message at 1am. :)

Uh, oh. I recognize that guilty look! We have two beagles, and that means food-obsessed. Last Thanksgiving I spent the evening at the emergency vet hospital after an one of them ingested an entire stick of butter she’d sneakily grabbed off the table. Not at all a cheap visit to the Dr., but at least she was OK. 6 weeks later, it was a pack of sugarless gum, stolen out of a purse, and thankfully they were able to treat her for that. Needless to say, we watch EVERYTHING they could possibly think to put in their mouths, much like having perpetual toddlers.

Love that picture of Burger! Glad he’s ok too. My friend’s Corgi pup gorged himself in a major way on some Kibble this week and had to be taken to the emergency vet! (He’s ok now.) So hope y’all had an awesome and puke-free Thanksgiving.
And since this comment hasn’t gotten weird enough, I had to write in this morning to say I had my first YHL-related dream last night. I dreamed that Sherry and Clara came over to my house (which was my parents’ house, in my dream) to hang out with my friends and family (!), and of course, give me Christmas-decorating advice. I was embarrassed that my family kept telling humiliating stories about me, but pleased by how well my friends were entertaining Clara while I showed you my collection of Christmas decorations and asked for suggestions on whipping something amazing together. Sherry, your dream self was, of course, super nice and I was jazzed to have you give me advice…in person! Truly the stuff dreams are made of. ;)
YoungHouseLove says
Haha- so funny! I’m glad I wasn’t mean in your dream (it’s funny how many folks have dreams that John or I were weird or rude or terrible at decorating advice, hahaha).

You guys being mean? No way! :)
I was at Target today and they have a ton of beautiful mercury glass stuff – votive holders (for 99 cents), a beaaaautiful lamp… made me drool.
