We’re thrilled to introduce the newest member of our family, baby Teddy!
On Wednesday, April 16th at 8:51 am, Theodore Freeman Petersik was born wielding a tiny drill weighing in at 8 lbs on the dot and measuring 19.5 inches long. We’re crazy in love with him, including Clara who just can’t stop kissing and snuggling “her baby.” Especially when he whimpers or coos, it becomes her personal mission to soothe him.
Teddy was named after my dad’s dad Theodore (who went by Teddy his entire life) and his middle name honors John’s maternal grandfather (Freeman is John’s middle name too). Teddy is already proving to be a little spitfire like his sister, although he came into the world a lot less dramatically, for which we’re eternally grateful. We’re both so relieved and overjoyed that he’s healthy and here in our arms.
Thank you all so much for the love, kind words, good vibes, prayers, and well-wishes that you’ve sent our way throughout this pregnancy. The c-section delivery went flawlessly and I’m feeling great, so it’s a nice contrast from my last rodeo. Our little family of five (Burger counts!) has never felt so blessed.
Speaking of Burger, we’ll be in the hospital through this weekend, so he has yet to meet his newest bestie/crumb provider (he’s at our house with the grandparents, being spoiled to no end), but we’re sure they’ll be fast friends. We hope to be back to blogging on Monday when we’re home, albeit on a slower schedule. Until then, we’ll leave you with this:
Look at all that hair!

Ashley says
Congrats, but isn’t this a DIY blog? Or has it transitioned to a family blog?
I come here to read DIY stuff, not family stuff, there are a million and one family blogs I could read if I wanted that.
YoungHouseLove says
We’ve always had family stuff in the mix here (here’s the post about Clara’s birth, her birth story, and a post about breastfeeding for 14 months) so this fits right into the range of things we’ve always shared here on our site – but feel free to skip any post that doesn’t float your boat :)

Wow, I can’t believe you got a snarky comment on a post as sweet as this one! I think there would have been a HUGE uproar if there hadn’t been a baby-introduction post. Thanks for sharing Teddy’s arrival; absolutely thrilled for you!
Jean says
Not even a ‘congratulations’? Really?
Beth W. says
Sheesh, seriously Ashley? I hope you’re joking. Would you really want them to not acknowledge this vital part of their life? Plus, a baby is about as DIY as you can get! :)
Blessings to you, Petersik family! I’m in my second trimester with my first, so those pictures of you both holding Teddy are bringing me to tears. I’m so happy for you!
Meghan says
there’s always a mean hater in every crowd…unfortunately. take the snark elsewhere–i agree that a baby is as DIY as it gets.
many congrats, blessings, and shared joys to you, petersiks! thanks for sharing your new little guy with us. xoxo
Linda says
Sherry and John, I also was refreshing all morning – so happy to see that all went so well, and your son’s name is beautiful.
I think I speak for 99% of people reading this blog in saying that we’re absolutely thrilled you shared the news of Teddy’s safe arrival with us, we hope you take some well-deserved time off, and that we enjoy reading about any project, human or otherwise, you choose to share with us.
paige @ LPD says
I mean no one made you read the post, you could have just scrolled on? But maybe you guys (j&s) should just merge the two blogs and make things easier on yourself. Also it’s your blog so it’s not like anyone can dictate what you post on it.
Cathy C. says
So I have to admit that I can be pretty patient, and would do well in Sherry’s shoes with snarky comments most of the time. THIS time, however, I would have reamed you out. Snarky is one thing, being a downright @&*^@& is another…
WHEW… NOW I am fired up!!
Madge says
Hey Ashley,
I can see why you’re upset. Let me offer you a full refund of the $0.00 it cost you to read this blog, along with my full apologies for the trauma you experienced when you had to look at unexpected cute baby pictures.
Sheesh, some people’s kids!
Scully says
This little dude is 100% DIY.
Haley says
Babies are the ultimate DIY.
Kari says
As a blog reader of all genres, I feel that the readers grow a certain connection with each blogger that makes them feel like we know you personally. As a result, I have been constantly refreshing your site for this post so that I can share in the joy and excitement of your beautiful family of 5! Keep the DIY AND Life posts coming, guys :)
Nicole says
Technically, it’s a DIY post. Sherry spent 9 months “building” Teddy after all. ;)
Claudia says
So sorry to see a few snarky comments. No one is making those commenters read any post. Move on, I say.
Shout your joy from the rooftops!! We share in it, gladly. Congratulations on your beautiful boy!

Do you think you’ll be doing the same weekly photo project with Teddy? If so I can’t wait for those!
xo,
Megan
YoungHouseLove says
Yes, we’re going to do a weekly photo project but have a tweaked idea for executing it, just so his has its own spin.

Diane says
Congratulation, he is adorable !
I am glad you didn’t go with “Quaterfoil Petersik” instead of Theodore (from a very old post concerning the patio of previous house : “Home sweet home” post in 2011…)
I like the name… and the hair !
Kassidy says
This totally should have been posted on your young house LIFE blog….
YoungHouseLove says
Young House Love is where we shared Clara’s birth announcement, her birth story, and a post about 14 months of breastfeeding. Young House Life was created for small family updates (ex: we went to a kids concert, we did a small craft project) but the big life stuff has always lived here on our main site.

Cassie says
Seriously? I’m pretty sure the owners of the blog are allowed to post whatever they want on whichever section of their blog that they want. Because it’s their blog. That is so incredibly rude.
LBH says
I would be fine with you all transitioning to more of a lifestyle/family/diy blog. Your blog has to grow with you, right?
And of course congrats on the new little! He’s gorgeous. And your hair looks AMAZING Sherry in the pic with him. Glad everything went well!
Betty says
Have some of these people forgotten that many of your diy projects over the past 8 months have been in anticipation of the “new little man”?
Laura says
Just want to say congratulations to you all. My eyes are full of tears right now. I know I don’t really know you but I feel like I do and I am just so happy for your family. Congrats!!
