This house just makes me smile, so of course I had to House Crash the heck out of it and share it with you guys. Behold- the eye candy that is Kelly Moore’s amazing casa. You might know her from her killer photography blog (all of her DIY-related posts can be found here) or her genius line of camera bags. But you don’t really know a person until you poke around their house, so let’s get to it. We’ll start in the kitchen, where Kelly and her husband whipped up some extra thick homemade concrete counters (and shared a tutorial right here). Everything from the happy painted cabinets to the apron sink and the sleek stainless appliances are so charming together:
The cabinets are painted Sherwin Williams Alchemy on top and Grandiose on bottom (she couldn’t decide on a color so she used both). And the island, sink, and shelves hail from Ikea while the rug is by Dash & Albert (from a shop in Ruston, Louisiana called Chartreuse Pear).
And that wall of smoky and sophisticated glass tile? Cue the breathy amorous sigh. She got that from Lincoln Flooring (also in Ruston, Louisiana).
Here’s the large and lovely living room with a come-hither sectional and cushy round ottoman (from Haverty’s and Overstock)…
… that faces a sweetly rustic brick fireplace with airy lofted ceilings.
Everything right down to the little details (like this showstopping mirror from Pier 1) seems to scream come on in and make yourself at home.
I can totally imagine myself curled up on that sofa reading a book. Is that creepy? Sorry.
And I can picture myself sitting here at the dining table scarfing some pita chips and hummus. Too much? Ok. I’ll try to keep it casual. Check out the great paneled ceiling and those sleek bulb lights (from West Elm) over the farmhouse-ish table (from Material Things in Monroe, LA). The chairs and picture ledges are from Ikea and that amazing folk art cow painting is by Erickson T. Wright.
Once again Kelly has managed to mix something rustic with something sleek for a gorgeous result (just like her stainless appliances & her charming apron sink or the clean-lined sectional & the weathered brick fireplace).
And let’s just say that Kelly isn’t afraid of color. Here’s her bold master bedroom which is painted Sherwin Williams Kimono (complete with a perfectly complementary little girl in a yellow dress- that’s her daughter Posey, isn’t she sweet?). The fun industrial-chic chandelier is from West Elm, the bed is from Ashley Furniture, the curtains are from Walmart, and the bedding is from Kohl’s.
And speaking of Po (as Posey’s affectionately known) here’s her playful room full of everything from the alphabet and a world map (thanks to lettered animal decals from Blik and a sweet oversized map from Urban Outfitters draped casually in front of the window). Gotta love working in some “learning” in such a hip way. And let’s just say that I’m in love with the L-O-V-E pillow cases (from Urban Outfitters) with hand shadows that spell out the word.
What a fun and stimulating space for a gorgeous little girl. Oh and the paint is Sherwin William’s Hot. It’s definitely poppy and fun. Kinda like Po.
So there you have Kelly’s astoundingly cool home. Thanks so much to Kelly and her family for letting us virtually snoop around and share the goods! Feel free to head over to her blog to learn more (or to ask any questions here, where she’ll hopefully drop in). And let’s play the what’s-your-favorite-part game. My faves are that rich and glossy glass tile in the kitchen and that insanely inviting jumbo sectional. And Po. Ok, your turn.

Favorite house-crashing EVER!!
Sara says
Wow! Thanks for sharing! I always love those shelves from IKEA, but couldn’t figure out how to install them with a tile backsplash? I would love to know how she installed them!
YoungHouseLove says
Hopefully Kelly will stop by with that info for ya!

Kelly moore says
Oh, my! We installed them while holding our breath and crossing our fingers! We used a glass bit to drill *carefully* through the tile. Just remember to buy several bits because they either get dull or break easily. We did crack the tile 3 times, but luckily it didn’t show too bad.
This was something I had my heart set on, so I wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
Patti says
Wow, what an interesting home and a fantastic use of color everywhere! I love all the pops of color all over, from that interesting green chair in the living room to the cow print in the dining room. Love it!
Donna Huebsch says
My favorite thing is the fabulous mirror in the living room, but it just edged out that wallow-all-over-me sectional sofa and the huge round ottoman. And a side note – I find myself looking at the 3 lights hanging from the vaulted ceiling over the dining table and thinking, “We would NEVER have gotten those hanging at exactly the same height!”
Nini says
Talk about style!
Mostly I love the colours. Vibrant and bold. I mean, I love looking at House Beautiful as much as the next gal, but all those white walls leave me feeling… uninspired.
My favourite piece in the house, though? Although that sectional looks cozy, did you see that seriously sweet olive chair tucked in the corner? It’s totally calling my name. I could absolutely see myself all curled up with a book and a green tea in that chair.
Ha, now I’m being a creep too.
YoungHouseLove says
Yes! I love that guy too. You’re right- it’s the perfect tea chair. Haha.

The white one with cubes? If so, I got it from west elm.

I pretty much want to die over the yellow cabinets, esp since she used grey with it.

I love it! I also love that she’s in Louisiana! Now I have a mission, next time I go to Ruson I must find this Chartruse Pear!
Adam says
That is probably the coolest kitchen I have ever seen! I love the smoky gray tile in combo with the yellow cabinetry; and I have had a crush on those West Elm pendants above the dining table for several years now. Great house to crash!
Janelle says
Thanks for sharing! I am loving the wall color in the bedroom. The blend of rustic with modern makes it look so comfortable, but still stylish and chic. I could definitely see myself baking in that kitchen. Guess I’m creepy too then…. haha
Erika B says
I love that sectional!! How does it compare in price to your Karl? I read on the Haverty’s website it was $1999.
YoungHouseLove says
Karl was under $1300 but they’re both amazing prices for such large and cozy room-making pieces!

Kelly moore says
Mine was actually a floor sample, so we purchased it for less than $1500.
YoungHouseLove says
Love that! Such a deal. It really does look super cozy.

I LOVE it! Fun yet sophisticated, with some unexpected quirkiness thrown in for good measure. I’m wonderinG if they could share the name of the smoky gray wall color in their main living area.

Where in the world do you guys find these awesome people and houses? I really need to learn to enhance my searches. Any special tips or tricks? What do you type into google to find them? Or do they find you?!?!
YoungHouseLove says
We always have our feelers out but most of them actually get submitted to us by the home owners themselves, or referred to us by readers or friends (this one was sent over by a reader who was dying for us to crash Kelly). We’re so grateful to everyone who shares the eye candy so we can turn around and share it on the ol’ blog!

in the meantime, i’ll keep staring…
oh, and that sectional makes me swoon.
Jennifer K says
I love it! Is the turquoise painting above the green chair in the living room DIY’ed? I would love more info on the painting and the fabric that is on the green chair!
YoungHouseLove says
I love both of those pieces! Here’s hoping Kelly will stop by with the info on the painting for ya (and me)!

Kelly moore says
I purchased the painting over the chair years ago on eBay :) I think you could easily diy it. Also, the green chair was a antique store find YEARS ago, so i don’t have any info on the material used.

I love this kitchen! We have yellow/grey also in our kitchen. Seeing this kind of space really makes me itch for a larger house. I love my condo, but that kitchen is amazing. And now I have to do more work on it…thanks for the motivational posts!

Anybody from Western Washington will understand this: for more than a split second I thought those hand shadows on the the pillows were banana slugs. Ugh, sooo glad to be wrong! So glad I kept reading! ;-)

Holy hippopotamus, those counters are TO DIE FOR. I think I just took my John-and-Sherry-kitchen-reno-budget down by another few thousand. Definitely want to recreate those!

I want to live in the kitchen! I am in love with the tile! More generally, I didn’t see a light fixture that I don’t love (WestElm knows my heart)!
Paige says
It takes mad skills to pull off a wood burning stove AND a purple master bedroom in the same house. Awesome!
Stephanie@Geezees says
What a fun house…love the vibrant colors!!
Emily says
Love that mantel. Someone mentioned where to get it, and the homeowner hasn’t popped on yet.
I can’t be sure, but it looks like an old, refinished 6″x6″ railroad tie cut to length with just some basic wrought iron shelf brackets under it. To secure it better to the wall, you could set it into some masonry bolts as well. These are typically available new at garden and landscaping suppliers, and you could rough it up a little like John did with the console table recently. Or, you could probably find one “used” at an architectural salvage place or even a junkyard.
What a wonderful idea for that! I really enjoy seeing rustic touches in a forward-trending home like this. It keeps it warm and inviting instead of too modern and austere. Good post!
YoungHouseLove says
I love that idea! Thanks for sharing Emily!

Dina says
Just a word of caution on using old railroad ties around the house — they are often (usually?) treated with some pretty nasty chemicals such as arsenic and creosote, which EPA recommends against using in residential settings. To be safe, I probably wouldn’t use salvaged railroad ties indoors or in my garden/yard, and if I bought something new I would want to find out what chemicals were used to treat it and make sure they’re approved for indoor use.
But I love the mantle too, it would be awesome to find a safely-treated piece of reclaimed wood to use!
YoungHouseLove says
So good to know! Thanks Dina.

Ted says
However, if you are only going for 6×6, then you can go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and get fence posts. Those are 6×6. If you get pressure treated wood, be sure to check what type. ACQ, the most common type, is safe for any indoor application except contact with food (e.g. cutting boards, counters, etc). If you want to be extra safe, use safecoat as YHL has recommended in the past.
Emily says
Very good points! Oh my, I feel old fashioned when I say “railroad tie.” What I mean is landscape timber. Several garden supply stores carry untreated landscape timbers with the notion they would be treated by the buyer. You definitely would not want to bring a truly used-in-real-life railroad tie into your house! Ick. :) Sorry ’bout the confusion there!
Regardless, the mantel looks like some gnarly old piece of wood, maybe from an old barn or timber frame house. So cool. Whether it really is or not, we may never know. Ahhh, the suspense!
Sarah says
I *love* when people inject colour into their home, you can always paint over it.
And the concrete countertop tutorial on her site is fantastic. Now I just have to convince the hubs to tackle this new project.
Shana says
“I can totally imagine myself curled up on that sofa reading a book. Is that creepy?”
So not creepy! I love that sectional, so comfy looking.
My hubby and I are in the process of moving from out 1000sq ft condo to a in-the-process-of-being-built 1600sq ft home(so exciting) and we had to remove our sectional because it didn’t stage well for selling the condo. We miss it SOOO much!
Erika @ Blonde Moments In The Burbs says
What a fun house! Thanks for sharing. I’ve been on the eternal quest for a cute and fun shed but the kicker is to find one that is reasonably priced. They are so expensive!!
LARY says
WOW!!! Love it!!!!! I think I could enjoy some Hummus too on that table! LOL or maybe even on that couch, it looks so inviting :) Looking forward to when you guys start on your kitchen. I’m just excited we get to see more before and after by you guys in the future :)
