When Courtney of Little Glass Box sent us photos of her amazing 105 year old row house in Baltimore, we knew we had to house crash the heck out of her, so here we go. First lets meet the fam (there’s Courtney, her son Olly, and her hubby Ryan):
How funny is that photo? You can already tell their house is going to playful and charming, right? Here’s the dining room, full of geometric pattern and rustic elegance thanks to the mix of the stenciled wall (Ryan did it himself) and the reclaimed wood table (Ryan built it himself). Notice a theme here? Ryan is handy. And guess who’s obsessed with the big wood horse on the table and the white deer head from ZGallerie on the wall? Hint: me.
Here’s the lovely kitchen that overlooks the dining room. The island was scored at Target (for just $75, down from $300!) and the chandelier was from Home Depot (they tweaked it by adding a gray shade). Their counters are concrete to continue Courtney’s love of gray.
And here’s the living room, complete with a fun photo collage flanked by sconces…
… and a pretty vanity (which used to be her mom’s) that Courtney revived and repurposed as a desk. Oh and the curtains are from West Elm (scored on sale).
Their master bedroom is gorgeous too, with more fun patterns and colors coming into play (note: not only is Ryan handy, he’s down with pink and florals – what a guy). The curtains are actually shower curtains and the pink dresser was $50 from craigslist (Courtney painted it Coral Gables from Sherwin Williams). And I have two words about the gold rhino head on the wall: I die.
But easily the most playful and graphic room of the bunch is little Olly’s nursery. See that amazing geometric wall on the right? It’s actually another…
… stencil! Yup, they DIYed that whole thing a stencil and some paint over two months of on and off labor (clarification: Courtney wasn’t in labor for two months, the wall stenciling process was two months of manual labor).
Look how amazing that is! It looks so sweet with their painted four poster crib (how elegant is that by the way- they found it on craigslist) which happens to have a little homemade no-sew crib skirt just like Clara’s. Oh and as for the crib decor, the pillows are removed before bed and the garland has since been relocated (safety first).
Here’s another angle of Olly’s room complete with giant horse art and a big white resin rhino head (from ZGallerie). Yes, I am also obsessed with those. And Courtney found that amazing yellow mantel for just $50 (marked down from $200) so she knew it was perfect for the room.
And because sometimes the details do it for me, I thought I’d leave you with this pretty little tablescape from the kitchen. How sweet is that cheese cutter? Courtney found it at a store in DC called Trohv. Love it.
So a huge thanks goes out to Courtney, Ryan, and Olly for letting us share their gorgeous and oh so creative home. You can check out Courtney’s blog for more photos and info, but first lets play the what’s-your-favorite-part game. I’m obsessed with the wall stencils in the dining room and Olly’s room along with the huge rustic wooden horse on the dining room table. Yes please. Oh and that gold rhino in the bedroom? Saweeeet. And John loves the rustic dining table that Ryan built along with that hilarious cheese cutter. And he wants to know why we don’t have a mustached family photo of our own. Good question indeed.
Psst- Check out all the other houses that we’ve crashed right here.

Could you tell me where you got the shower curtains you used as curtains. I love them! Thanks!
Courtney says
Hi! They are awesome curtains from target that we added fabric to at the bottom :.) they were priced amazing and it only took two to make four panels!
courtney says
hahah Vicki, you can live with us we are totally awesome peeps I assure you ;.) haha.
Sarah baby steps are great! Just remember even if you go bold and it doesn’t look how you want it to in the end, you can always paint over it ;.)
Sara says
where on earth can we get that stencil or one similar? holy cow.
danielle says
I second this – love the stensil…can’t believe you drew it yourself! Would love to do this on a wall or two in our bathroom.
Courtney says
A great stencil etsy shop is olive leaf stencils :.)
courtney says
Hey Sara we made the one in the nursery on the computer and transfered it to stencil paper….The one in the dining room is from Hobby Lobby. Seriously Oliver our lil’ man LOVES starring at the pattern on his wall…it keeps him entertained for a longggggg time ;.) Here is more stencil how to info :

I rarely comment, but had to chime in today because this is easily my favorite house crash EVER. Love the cohesive feel to the whole house, the quirky accents like the rhino and deer head, and all of the fun graphic prints and stencils! Literally bookmarking every picture to add to my home decor inspiration folder. One question, though: do you know if they made the headboard themselves, and if not, where they bought it? It’s gorgeous!

Here’s hoping Courtney drops in to answer all the new questions that keep popping up soon!

Courtney says
Thanks so much!!!! You made my day! We did make the headboard, the fabric is actually a curtain panel from west elm… If you want to read a how to email me at [email protected] and I will be sure to send you the link to it on my blog :.)
YoungHouseLove says
Courtney, feel free to post direct links to things on your blog here in the comment section if that’s easier!

They are flawless at mixing all those patterns! Love <3

Wow, I’ve never seen such a dark and moody nursery before. What inspired that design? I’ve read that black and white is very stimulating for a child’s developing brain, along with red. But that stencil is very yang for such a small space. Does the room feel restful to you? It’s certainly lovely and has a strong intellectual vibe. But what an interesting choice of colors and pattern!
courtney says
Hey Carla! We just did the pattern on the one wall so that helps not to overwhelm the room ;.) It’s so funny because our little Oliver loves starring at it, he talks to it and it keeps him entertained…it actually makes him want to be in bed…so funny! The dark color happened on the wall because the skylight in the room made it challenging to pick a color. All of the colors were intensified by the sun. We started off with a pale green blue and it ended up looking like Tiffany box blue, so we went dark and we just love it ;.) We hope people like it because we know we went outside of the box ;.)
Ashley says
Courtney-would you mind sharing where the dining room chairs came from? thanks.
courtney says
Hey Ashley the chairs were actually an awesome steal from Ikea ;.) The covers would be so fabulous to Rit dye whatever color you want ;.)
Ali says
Lord, forgive me, for I covet their master bedroom. All of it.
Fun house crash!!
Stephanie says
What a beautiful home! Courtney- I am wondering if you could tell me the name of the paint color in your living room? We have been searching for the perfect tan for our nursery and that is such a lovely color. Thanks
courtney says
Stephanie,
Thanks for the compliment! We searched forever for that perfect color too! It is Broome by Ralph Lauren. Home Depot used to carry RL paint but stopped almost a year ago. They can color match it to any paint brand they carry, we usually go with the Behr Paint & Primer in one, it seems to cover the best. Lovely color, Indeed!
Tania says
Oh! All is now well again in my work day, I can see the pictures on the blog (for some reason, last week they were blocked, depriving me of a much-needed sanity break during the office grind). I love this stencil wall!! Although I wouldn’t have the patience nor the skill to do it myself. Mine would come out all crooked and jacked up.
Margaret says
I NEED that reclaimed wood dining table. I would seriously pay to either A. have one made for a reasonable price or B. how-to instructions. I have been on the hunt for a table that looks like that for quite some time and they are all just too pricey!
Paula says
Hey, Margaret – Just today Courtney put the dining table how-to’s on her blog, http://www.alittleglassbox.com
It is fantastic, isn’t it? Could be elegant and rustic all at the same time!
MelissaG says
My two favs= the yellow dresser and the coral dresser. I have been having serious dresser envy for a while and those are great! I seem to wreck furniture when I paint so I’m starting to think I may never have such great dressers!
Christie Stearns says
Hey! So awesome to see I’m not the only one who used those blue shower curtains with the white flowers as real curtains! I just put those in my massage room! Very cool… love this fun, punchy, colorful home.
Kelsi @ Modern Mom Redefined says
Such a gorgeous home! I could definitely see raising kids there, which kind of contradicts a fancy-smancy home (or at least it does with my son!). I love the dining room stencil and how they used so many unexpected items. It really makes you appreciate what good bones, creativity, and paint can do!!
Caroline says
I LOVE the master bedroom! Do you mind sharing the name of the wall color?
brittney says
I hope that you can help me because this is driving me CRAZY!
It was either in one of your posts or something you commented or replied to here, but there was mention of a particular blog a few weeks ago. I went to it and loved it but have since forgotten it and can’t find it!
It was a married couple who design or redesign houses but also offer marriage counseling services, kind of a unique business.
YoungHouseLove says
Hmm I think that must have been a comment since we can’t come up with it either. Anyone remember?

I wonder how the nursery would look in different lighting. I might be the only one, but the rooms have this incredible creamy soothing light but when you enter the nursery, bam! It’s like entering the doctor’s office, or an art gallery. Both does not soothe me :) I hope Olly is perfectly happy with the color choices & lighting :D
Courtney says
Hi sevi! He seems to like it :.) you’re right that most of the house is muted but when I found out I got to decorate a Childs room I was so excited. So we went bold because we felt this room if any gave us the freedom to do it. It’s not for everyone but it fits his personality …crazy kid :.)
laurenjanelle says
what an adorable house. I love the muted colors with dramatic splashes of pretty colors.
Hollie @ I'm Busy Procrastinating says
My favorite things are the stenciled walls, of course, and the painted furniture. So posh!
Sue says
Beautiful! Mind sharing the kitchen paint color? My cabinets appear to be exactly the same and I’m struggling with wall color (in an open floor plan). Thanks so much!
Courtney says
Hey sue it’s Brooke by Ralph Lauren. Our home depot stopped carrying RL paint so they color matched it in Behr paint and primer in one for us :.) hope this helps, happy painting!
Courtney says
Sorry type-o it’s broome not Brooke :.)
Alyzande says

Hi,
Love it all. Is theZ Gallerie deer head the small one or the large one? Thanks!

I think it’s the large one, but we’re not sure. Maybe just look at the measurements over there on their site and measure your wall to see which one will fit better?
