Yesterday was my sweet hubby’s birthday so I figured I should share what Clara, Burger and I got him. John and I have recently been talking about how we’d love to amass more “real art” to complement all the DIY stuff that we have framed on every wall. This goal is definitely inspired by our friends Matt and Kristin – who we House Crashed here and here. The cheerful original art that lights up their home always has us jonesing to add more color and fun to our walls. So consider this painting to be the beginning of an exciting little collection that will happily hang in the new house:
It’s a 12 x 12″ original oil painting on canvas done by an amazing Etsy artist named Roz (to the tune of $75). And the moment I laid eyes on it I knew it was perfect. See, John and I actually worked bees into our wedding invitation (which you can check out here) so we’ve always considered them to be our animal- er, insect. And the fact that there are two of them galavanting around the canvas together makes it even easier to see as a symbol of our relationship. My man gives me a buzz, what can I say. Ok, enough cheese. Hubby loves it. So glad.

Love this. Can’t wait to check out the etsy page for myself- maybe new art would help liven up the office.

I was looking for art a while back and found Roz as well. I love, love, love the cow art. They make me happy just by looking at them. I think they will go on my Christmas list.

Because of your site I found ESTY and love it! I have purchased a few things that you can’t find anywhere! Which is great!

I’ve actually been wanting some more “real art” too. But I think that I am going to try to DIY it.

Is it me or do I see the number 2 in the picture? I’m a math maniac so I’m may have noticed a number when others don’t see anything!!!

Haha, we totally see it too! Maybe it’s a nice subliminal reminder of our couple-dom!

You two are diligent as bees, so it definitely deserves to be your theme!

I’m so happy you included a link to your wedding invitations and wedding post. I was not yet aware of your blog to follow it at the time of the original post. I have been leaning towards eloping, but now that I see what a fabulous and beautiful wedding you two pulled off on such a great budget, I am definitely reconsidering…and stealing some ideas! ;)

Love ROZ’s work! I have been drooling over her stuff on etsy for a long time.

Thank you so much for posting John’s birthday present yesterday. Happy belated birthday! I loved the bee painting so I browsed Roz’s website and discovered that she does commissions for a very reasonable fee. I contacted her yesterday and she is creating a Christmas gift for my parents of their farm house. What a great gift! Thanks again for the post that eventually led to my first purchased Christmas present.

Bee-day. Hehe, cute.
I love the idea of lining one’s nest with feathers that are special & meaningful to them. & not that your DIY pics of the past weren’t, but original pieces of art really seem to be the epitome of meaningful feather. I’ve gotten some great pieces off of Etsy, & will share them just as soon as our little Young House Love redo is over. I know it’s been forever, but we’re poor college students & do everything like y’all– with cash!!
Much love from Austin, TX!
Felicity says
LOVE it! That would be perfect for our house, the beehive!

I really like your birthday painting. Thought I would share that every year, instead of buying each other anniversary gifts, my parents would buy a piece of art. Usually it was from a local art show. They built a beautiful art collection and also had early pieces from artists who went on to reach a nice level of recognition. I’ve always thought it was a great way to celebrate an anniversary.

I’ve been looking at art recently too! I totally thought of you guys when I saw this:

Love. it. I also have a thing for bees (inspired by Weddingbee)! I <3 your wedding invites! Ever since we've had a resident artist come into our school, I have decided to try to go the original art route. Our artist made a good point -for the cost of a framed print, you could be the owner of an original piece of art. Our tiny condo is out of wall space (although I do have a couple of original art pieces up -one done by my sister's friend), but when we buy our dream house, original art is on my short list!
alicia says
Thanks for the painting reference! I just bought one of Roz’s custom beach paintings for our home! :)

I love Roz, Drunken Cows! I’ve followed her for a year or so. Love the cows! Can’t wait to get one someday.

Nov. 15 is my daughter Lara’s birthday, too. Went to the Roz site and found a great “little girl jumping” picture that reminds me of Lara and her art style. I’ll hang it next to one of Lara’s very similar creations.

I am also trying to collect more “real art.” Check out this amazing artist at my blog http://mysweetelizabeth.blogspot.com/2010/12/affordable-art.html. He is amazing and really affordable!

Clearly sitting online during my 3-day weekend, I was going through your blog archives (to get more ideas) and, lo and behold, John and I have the same b-day! Woo! I love finding “birthday buddies”. Maybe when the hubs and I are also tooling around RVA we’ll bump into you (at Home Goods?)! Thanks for being awesome!
Laura says
I wanted to share an awesome blog that I stumbled across that featured some free bee printable art that looked to be about your style. I’m so excited to check out more of Aimee’s site.

I saw this bee painting today (http://larkandkey.com/artwork.php?artistName=angie%20renfro) and immediately thought of this post. I really hope that etsy artist that you bought your’s from isn’t ripping off his/her work from this artist (or vice versa). They look eerily similar don’t you think? :/
YoungHouseLove says
Woah- they really do! Roz is pretty known in the art community so I wonder if that is a “riff” on her stuff? I hope there’s no foul play going on. Maybe they licensed it or something?
