It’s high time for the winter Pinterest Challenge (not sponsored by Pinterest or anyone else, just dreamed up by Katie Bower to make us stop pinning and start doing). The whole Pinterest Challenge thing started around a year and a half ago when Katie called me to say that she thought we should challenge ourselves to make one thing each season that’s inspired by all the fun stuff that we’ve pinned (and call it… wait for it… The Pinterest Challenge). It’s a welcome slap of stop-pinning-and-start-doing. So slip into your Hoodie Pillow (please tell me you’ve seen that on Shark Tank), sip on some hot chai, and grab some supplies. It’s time to get this DIY party started!
The only rule is to do your own personal take on something inspirational that you’ve pinned (and link back to the original creator of the project that inspired you, be it a company like Anthropologie or a personal blog that got your wheels a turning). We especially love to pin things from sites that have “Pin It” buttons since it indicates that they enjoy popping up on Pinterest. The project can be anything: big or small; decor or sewing or cooking related – or beyond!
The first time around John and I made a clothespin light for the laundry room, the next time I tackled homemade ornaments, then I faced my sewing demons and made a beanbag pouf for Clara, next I tried my hand at some homemade art, and last time we built a giant leaning chalkboard for the living room. This time when John and I were grocery shopping slash brainstorming (multitasking at its finest) we decided on something fun & large scale-ish (it’ll alter an entire area of our house). And it’s definitely something that has been pinned out the wazoo (there are at least a dozen tutorials over on Pinterest that we can’t wait to reference). So without further ado… here’s a clue for you. Can you crack the code?
The Wayans Brothers + Scott Baio = our project.
Now I’ll fill space so you can’t see the answer while you make your guess.
More space filling…

The answer: Wainscoting! We’re planning to install it down both sides of our long hallway (this isn’t the frame hallway, it’s the one that leads to the guest room, hall bath, nursery, and playroom) – just to add some architecture and break up that bowling alley feeling of the long bare hall.
Actually if you want to be technical what we’re going to do is probably closer to board & batten. So hmm, what’s a good clue for that? A picture of someone yawning while swinging a baseball bat?
We already bought all of our materials so we’re psyched to get started!
Think we can get it done in a week? We’re definitely going to give it the ol’ college try! Oh and you’re probably wondering who else is playing along with me and K-Bo. Well, we thought it would be fun to ask different folks to “guest host” with us each time (both of whom have done something fun in the previous challenge), so we’re thrilled to have:
-
Megan from The Remodeled Life (here’s the cool kitchen chalkboard she made for our last challenge)
-
Michelle from Decor & The Dog (she made an awesome map pillow last time around)
So here’s the part where I extend my arm with an alarmingly wide grin and a little bit of paint in my hair and humbly invite you to join in on the winter fun by doing your own spin on something you pin! We figured we’d give everyone (and ourselves) the weekend to work on stuff and reconvene next Wednesday morning (the 27th) to share our projects (you can check out all the amazing linked-up projects from past challenges here, here, here, here, and here). So just drop in next Wednesday to submit a link to your project and to see what we whipped up. In the meantime, do you have any idea what you’ll tackle this time? Is it food, craft, sewing, painting, or furniture related? Perhaps a video full o’ toddler chatter is on the agenda? I highly recommend it.
Psst- One more time, for the people in the back: regardless of the fact that I say Pinterest about thirty times, this wasn’t paid or perked by them or anyone else. We’re just eye-candy obsessed gals who are sick of coveting things and downright ready to do them. Well at least one of them…

That was so adorable!!! Great idea cutting!

I don’t know if I can handle a challenge right now (I’m in the third trimester and we are about to reno the kitchen, so…yeah) but I am super excited to see what you do in the hallway. I am thinking about this for our dining room, where there is currently an obtrusive and dumb chair rail.

This post seems to be written for me…
1. I LOVE Shark Tank and am still making jokes about the Hoodie Pillow! Still shocked they got a deal.
2. Chai lattes are my favorite drink in the entier world
3. I’ve been waiting for you guys to do board and batten in your hallway! Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Johanna says
I’m soo excited you guys are doing wainscoting!!! My hubby and I are looking into doing it in our dining room, and there are soo many options, especially on pinterest, I can’t wait to see how yours turns out!!

Wainscoting! Oh! I was trying to figure out how “In Living Color” and “Charles in Charge” could combine to become a house project.
Sarah C. says
That is the cutest! They definitely inspired me to play along. Off to my boards to find something I can accomplish!
Thanks!

Hilarious!! All those kids are gonna be heartbreakers…
Michelle says
LOVE! That was amazing! My 2 year old had me play the video 6 times and kept pointing at Clara and Will while calling them her “friends.”
So cute! :)
Eliza says
OMG. That’s the most awesome video ever. And then it gets even better at the end! Such cute kids… and the wainscoting is a great idea! Nothing like adding character details to plain vanilla walls to transform a whole space, even a hallway! Can’t wait to see the results!
Ginny @ Goofy Monkeys says
Oh My Gosh!! I was just thinking about this and wondering if you guys were going to keep it up! So excited :)
Amy says
I need a marshmallow too Clara! Haha! The video was awesome and I can’t wait to see your new and improved hallway!
Kristen says
This is totally unrelated, but I had a dream last night that you guys had a lamp shades collection at Target! I was excitedly trying out a bunch of your shades for these new lamps I bought and trying to decide which worked best.
Unfortunately, I really do have two new lamps that need shades, and you guys don’t really have a Target collection…yet! (The Shades of Light ones are bigger than I need.) But I thought you guys would enjoy the story, how great would it be if you had a line at The Targ!

That video is beyond presh. Will seems to be a little bit more shy than Clara, no?
And I’m beyond excited to finally be participating for the first time in the Pinterest Challenege. Whoop! (Picture me doing a fist pump, Sherry!)
My project is in no way, shape, or form as awesome as y’alls will be but it’s only my second “project,” so I’m cutting myself some slack ;)

Thanks for the ol’ co-host invite! The video is ridiculously cute. Good look with the wainscoting. It took us about 3 week-ends to complete ours but we also have focus issues. I can’t wait for Wednesday!!!

Cutest Kids Ever! Loved the video, and the stash :)
Can’t wait to see the results.
Brianna says
Well, Clara and I have something in common as I often say “Pin something I need a marshmallow” in the same breath as well. Although when I say it, it’s sad, when she says it, it’s fantastic. Great video! Now off to go pin…and eat marshmallows.
Jenn @ Home Style Report says
Start saving for their wedding now! They’re the cutest! I was so excited for another challenge that I went shopping on my lunch!
Whitney says
That has to be the cutest video ever made! So freakin adorable.
I’m so excited. This will be the first Pinterest challenge I actually get to participate in! (I’m a blogging newbie) I already have a project in mind. Can’t wait to share! :)
Amanda K. says
that was also my favorite video…by far. the kids did great! though we could have used some subtitling on will’s roars ;)
caroline says
oh my goooooodness. I died. from cuteness overload. First of all, I love how they let Sherry down in the beginning. Clara wanted a marshmallow. It kept getting better and better.
But the winner in my opinion? Will’s 1940’s hair style. I am so digging it. Between that and his yardwork skills, I plan on stealing him and creating a small child work camp. I haven’t seen Clara’s yardwork yet but I bet she could paint something…
Wendy T says
A). This title. Cannot get Beyonce the chicken out of my head.

Brenda says
Can’t wait to see the finished hallway! But more importantly, Will and Clara are the most adorable ever! I had to watch the video twice just to appreciate the cuteness.
