We’re about to get video happy up in this hizzy. It’s once again time for a video house tour since it has been about six months since the last one and lots has changed since then. So here it is. Ten soul-stirring minutes of me and John walking around the house together while I blab and he films (John = steady hands, Sherry = the chatty one). We’re nothing if not high tech. So come on in and walk around with us…
A few notes:
- I’ve listened to this five times trying to hear Natalie Portman or Mila Kunis (since you guys always say you hear it) and I just can’t.
- We filmed this with our new camera, which we’ll be sharing more details on this afternoon (in case you couldn’t tell, we’re still getting a handle on the audio – haha)
- While watching this back John made fun of me for “feigning cluelessness about how a dog gets into a chair” (at 33 seconds in) and said “does he jump? does he fly?” which made me snort laugh. But seriously, I’ve never seen Burger get into those chairs – he always just… materializes.
- I love seeing the house through the eyes of the video camera because it helps me see things I miss in person. For example, looking from the office back into the dining room makes me want to raise the art up about 6″ inches above the buffet, so it still connects to what’s under it but lets things breathe a little more.
- Sorry my voice gets louder and softer, it’s literally because if I wasn’t exactly the same distance from the camera John was holding it would fluctuate, so I tried to stay glued to him, but I’m a flailer when I talk… so…
- You can actually see John and I working our dorky joint video-making magic in the mirror of our master’s sink nook at 5:53 in the video. Priceless.
- Drinking game: take a sip every time I say “secret book projects.”
- Are the baad brass doorknobs sucking the life out of you through your computer screen? They’re like kryptonite to me. Gotta get on those.
- At 9:13 when I say Clara’s room will always remain a nursery, I don’t mean that she’ll be 15 and sleeping in a crib. I just mean she’ll move into the playroom (which will become her big girl room) and then if a future Petersik bean should come along, that room will be theirs since it’s the smallest (so it works the best with a crib).
- Was that not the dorkiest, most embarrassing ending of all time? “I’m getting over a stomach bug so… all you need is love?” What is wrong with me? Maybe I should just stick to “Seacrest, out.”
- What’s with me being sick right before each video tour? Seriously. Maybe there’s something primal about cleaning the house when you’re recovering from some evil germ-fest and then I saying “hey, the house is clean… it’s time for a tour!”
And now, just for fun I thought I’d end with the link to the last video tour we shared six months ago (complete with terrible camera shakiness since I wasn’t smart enough to recruit John and his steady hands last time) – just because it’s pretty funny to see how much has changed. You know what they say about videos, they’re worth a thousand pictures. Wait, they don’t say that? Well the should. Do you guys ever videotape your house, just to see how it changes over time or to document what you’ve accomplished so far? Do you have terribly flail-y hands that make for a Blair-Witch-ish result? Would your hubby ever walk around with you and hold the camera while you jabber on? I think John deserves an award for that. Perhaps a handmade award courtesy of my flail-y hands. Oh and if you’re watching the most recent video and wondering what we still have on our ever-growing to-do list, this somewhat updated rundown has all that info for ya. Hootie hoo! Seacrest, out.
Psst- Check out all the other house tour videos since we’ve moved in here, here, here, here and here. And here’s an outside tour from last year and an updated one from this year. Viva la video camera!

I love how Clara’s high chair is the same yellow as your chairs out on the deck. Doesn’t even look out of place.
YoungHouseLove says
Isn’t that funny? It’s my favorite color these days :)

Love the video and totally hear Natalie Portman…especially the first couple sentences.
I’m sure you probably already answered this, so if so, I’m sorry!! But, how did you figure out where/how to hang all the picture frames in your hallway? I want to do something similar going up our stairs, but I’m struggling with figuring out the layout… If you already posted on this, could you just guide me in the right direction on your website? Thanks so much!
YoungHouseLove says
We used paper templates cut to the size of each frame and just moved them around to get something we love. Hope it helps!

Me: “No baby it’s someone else’s house.”
Lily: “But! It sounds like you talking!”
Haha. Nice video :)

Darn secret book projects! :) I can’t wait to see them! But I still think it’s funny that we can’t the wall that shares the doorway into your bedroom! It’s like it’s a tv set! I love the clean lines in your house though~ It feels homey yet modern.
Also, while reading your blog I get mixed feelings from you guys- you talk about doing a lot of things to the house, but then you talk about resale a lot. I think your current house could be my forever house- just wondering if you guys are not planning on staying long there?
YoungHouseLove says
We learned the hard way never to say “forever house” since we did that on our first house and then were in a totally different head space after having a baby and both working from home and realized it wasn’t a forever house at all. So while we would love to be here a while I think we know that anything can happen so we don’t want to make any big declarations that we might go back on someday :)

This is so nice, guys! Love the way your house is coming togeher and how you have turned it into a home. Kudos to you!
Lindsay Huff says
Love the “All You Need Is Love!!”. Not awkward at all after the stomach bug comment. It’s like… “I was sick, but I’ve got lots of love, so I’m fine now”. Could be used after other project videos because things you’ve made, are made with love. Chairs you’ve painted that were done with love. Curtains were sewn with love. It covers everything.
House looks great! All you need is Love!

Love the home tour!
Erin @ WriteTasty says
Ah! You posted this on a work day for me. Can’t wait to check it out later! You’ve made such nice changes lately… the new house is starting to work. :)
Cara W says
Loved the tour! Thanks so much for doing it – I’m sure many readers like me were excited to see an update. To answer the question you asked, yes, those brass door knobs are jumping out. I would love to see you transform them! I have the same issue. The old owners of our house replaced the entire third floor with brushed nickel door knobs and left the rest of the house with brass. And ugly light switch plates. Womp womp.
Beth says
Definitely Natalie Portman. :)
Thanks for sharing!
We have a 2600+ square foot house too, but I think we want to downsize the next time, or at least as big or bigger won’t be a requirement in our home search. We are more focused on location (country-like setting).
Thanks again!
Tracie says
I love the videos because there are times when I just look at the pictures I don’t quite “get it.” Like the while accent tile in your bathroom! It looks so pretty in “person” and really breaks up that beige. Also, I never knew you had a coat closet! I read little mentions of it, but I had no idea where was located until the video. So thank you for solving the little mysteries of your house for this internet stranger.
And yes, you sound like the Grey Swan. You’re the missing link!
Krystle @ Color Transformed Family says
I love the video tours. It’s so refreshing to see the whole house at one time. It’s your house and you can totally do whatever you want to with it but I think your dining room table would look great painted white or some bright color. The chairs look great!
MJ says
I have a question that I am sure you’ve answered before. What’s behind the door in the dining room to the right of the buffet? I love snooping in closets I guess!
YoungHouseLove says
Secrets and treasure! Actually just coats, our vacuum and some random files and other boringness.

Lynn @ Our Useful Hands says
My, my, my look at far we have come. And by we I mean yous guys. It’s amazing how much you have accomplished in only around 2 years. I remember basically most of my childhood my mom saying “Dear I want to pain the dining room green.” My dad would mumble “Mmhhmm…sounds good.” and then realizing that I grew up there all my life (20 some years) with the same white walls that were there when they got the keys to the house in the 70’s. Nowadays when they come over my mom is all like “Whaaaaa…..? How did you make that or think to put that there???” It’s fun to blow her mind every once in awhile. The downside? Guess who gets recruited to do all her DIY now that the bug has jumped to their house too?
My best, Lynn
Meg says
You seriously don’t hear Mila Kunis??!!? From the very first second of the video, that’s what I was thinking and then I read below that you don’t hear it! So crazy!
Chloe says
Within 5 words I heard both Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis in your voice, haha. I always get a bit confused by the layout of your house so these videos are great for orientation.
Liz U says
Sherry,
I also think you sound like Marcela Valladolid– she’s the host of a Food Network show called Mexican Made Easy. Here’s a clip of her speaking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC48LGik-HI
Of course, I don’t think you say Spanish words with quite the same accent as she does ;-)
YoungHouseLove says
Haha I wish I had her Spanish flourish!

Yes definitely Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis! Thanks for sharing your home.
how2home says
Absolutely love the tour of your house! So fresh and bright. It’s funny how you call your front entrance table a “buffet”.
how2home says
just curious… how many sq ft is your house?
YoungHouseLove says
Its around 2400 square feet (including the sunroom, which is on a different heat system).

Speaking of secret book projects, I tried to look up this video in my iPhone YouTube app because I’m on super slow hotel wifi (it wouldn’t load from the website). But before finding this video I stumbled upon a video your book publisher posted that has some sneak peeks in it and now I’m even more impatient for my pre-ordered copy to come in!! It’s such a cute, totally sweet video you two!! So adorable! Congrats on everything!! I’d link to it here, but I have no idea how :)
YoungHouseLove says
Aw thanks Jennifer :)

I’m so glad I saw this comment! I agree, you too are absolutely adorable in this promo! And after watching the house tour I bet the gradient dresser is the large item in the master bedroom on the wall we’re not allowed to see. Oh, and I love those red curtains. Although I have to say it is a little weird to see furniture in places were it doesn’t actually make sense with the rest of the room’s furnishings. Awesome job guys! I can’t wait for my book to arrive!
YoungHouseLove says
Get ready for more furniture-in-weird-places fun once the book comes out. There’s tons more where that came from! :)

I can’t believe I just typed too instead of two, fail :( Also I feel special that I saw this video when it only had 50 views considering today’s house tour has almost 50,000 already. Alas, whilst on youtube searching for this I came across the first house tour ever (aka of your first apartment together)! I think you guys have come full circle since the patio chairs that Sherry loves in that video are a cheerful yellow and the yellow has made a reappearance in the deck chairs. Coincidence? I think not; it was meant to be!
Sara says
I have always known it, but this video just proves it again…you guys are amazingly talented! Such a beautiful job on the house! Everything is just perfect!
I saw a tripod floor lamp in the video, but don’t see it on your source list, will you please tell me where you bought it? Thanks!
And just FYI, I hear mostly Mila, but also a little Natalie…how fun!
YoungHouseLove says
Aw thanks Sara! That’s from Marshall’s or HomeGoods (ack I forget!). Hope it helps!

hey, what if your paint your interior front door that awesome yellow too??

“momma, we totally need to move into that house…it’s so pretty…I love the kitchen” said my 5 year old daughter while taking a break from a sword fight with her brother (play swords of course)!!! Just though I’d share;))

Aw that’s so cute!!

It’s interesting how much warmer and color-rich your home seems on video. It almost looks, dare I say, smaller! In a good way. Especially your bedroom. I love the colors in there even more now and it feels very cozy. Thanks for the video!
Christina says
Hi! Great Video! I’m a big fan of your blog. I bought my house one year ago & I have lots of parquet floors exactly like yours. How do you clean yours? I use a dyson vacuum set on bare floors to sweep & the swiffer mop wood floor cleaner but was thinking I’d like to use something better. I was just curious what you use because they look shiny & clean! :)
YoungHouseLove says
Aw thanks! It’s all an illusion because they’re in rough shape! Haha. We try to vacuum them when we can, but the honest truth is that they need to be refinished. Someday we’d love to do that!

I just want to move in and live in your house instead of mine! I love every inch of your beautiful home!

my lady Natalie P for sure! within the first 5 seconds!! :)

I totally heard Mila Kunis!!
ANYWAY…
I love your frame hallway, but want to know a “rental-friendly” way of creating the same thing at home (in New Zealand landlords are super super strict on furnishings etc, because of how expensive insurance is for changing/fixing stuff that tenants do.. booooo!) Any tips?
YoungHouseLove says
I would check out 3M command picture hanging strips. They’re 100% removable and great for a rental!

Chana says
Hey! Loved the video. Things look great. I’m just wondering what you had on the fireplace mantel in the kitchen? I don’t think I’ve seen a post about them – heron things? I’d love more details!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yes, I owe you details! Found them at HomeGoods! That store is full of faux animals and I can’t help taking them home with me. Haha.

Usually when a future Petersik is mentioned Sherry adds “no I’m not pregnant mom”. Not so this time… ?! Praying praying it is so.
Anna, Sydney says
Ah, now I see someone else asked too and answer is no. Oh well, still praying all will go well in future for another one. Reckon there can’t be too many Petersiks in this world.
YoungHouseLove says
Aw, so sorry Anna! Not right now :)

A better drinking game: take a shot every time you see a garden stool… Seriously, I think I counted 5? I am loving the look and versatility of these little gems, but how have you amassed such a collection? The cheapest I’ve seen them online in $100 a pop, can I find them for less?
YoungHouseLove says
Hahahahah! Yes, I’m obsessed and you can find them for $39 at HomeGoods and Marshall’s! I’m always on the lookout for one more to “adopt” – haha!

Heather D says
Ive never thought about it before but you definitely sound A LOT like Mila and Natalie. (Or they sound like you) It also means you must have a secret talent of doing an impression of Meg from Family Guy :)
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, the weird thing is growing up I could do the best Bart Simpson. Haha.

Love the video! Your home is so bright and cheerful, if you can describe a home as such. I am trying to find the best solution for window treatments and have been reading over earlier blog entries from your first home. It looks like bamboo blinds were your favorite choice for your first home, but I haven’t noticed them in this house. Are you guys loving the bare windows or is there a window treatment in the works? Are bamboo blinds still a good way to go? I was trying to study the windows in this video, so forgive me if I missed anything.
Thanks. I recently found your blog and LOVE it!
YoungHouseLove says
We’d love to bring in bamboo blinds! Just haven’t gotten to that layering step, but we’d love them in every room layered with our curtains. They’re so natural and fun. We’re still definitely big fans.

How many of those drum type side table thingies do you have? Did I count 4???
YoungHouseLove says
Five! Haha. I’m apparently a drum stool addict! They’re so cheap at HomeGoods (and come in so many fun colors) I guess I can’t resist!

I hear Mila Kunis, she’s there!
Please tell me where you got the teal & white stools/end tables that are in your kitchen eat-in area and living room? I love them so!

HomeGoods! They’re so cheap there! My goal is always $39 or less. You have to hold out for the really discounted ones.

Hi from Australia….
Just quietly, how they heck does your house stay so clean with a toddler?!?!?!?!??!!!!!!!
Love seeing all the updates, you were my inspiration to do a frame hallway (they say imitation is the highest form of flattery?). Its turned into the talking point at our house, but I cant bring myself to bring the frames too low (I have a 14 month old and a 2.5 year old :) )
xx
YoungHouseLove says
Hahah! It’s a wreck in real life. We just do these tours twice a year, so while Clara was out at the playground with her grandparents we threw all of her toys into her baskets and scraped the play-doh off the table and quickly taped it before she came home and turned into a little tornado-of-messes when she got home :)

Mila Kunis to a T!!!! :)

The house looks great! It has great flow.
I didn’t see that rocking chair you transformed. Is it being stowed away in the playroom or sunroom?
YoungHouseLove says
Alas, it’s shoved into the sunroom. Can’t find a spot for him yet!

i love your home and totally hear the mila kunis/natalie portman thing.
Kristin L. says
My boyfriend and I just got our first apartment together in the Museum District which is kind of on the smaller side, but the way you guys seem to get so much out of every corner, nook, and cranny really inspires me. :)
ALSO, before I watched the video, and you said that thing about Natalie and Mila I was all, “What, is Black Swan on in the background or something?” but alas, it is that your illness gave you Mila-mouth.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha!

I’m super curious about what’s in your coat closet! That’s a coat closet, right? To the right of the buffet in the dining room?
YoungHouseLove says

Suzanne says
I totally hear the Mila!!
Andrea says
Great tour! It’s come a long way!! Thanks as always for sharing. Can’t wait to see some of these “secret book projects” – yes, I just took a shot – since I pre-ordered. :)
By the way, I think I saw a slipper chair in the same fabric as your master BR headboard on Target’s site – it seems you were onto something!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yeah, isn’t that so funny?! Love that!

Christy Ziesmer says
I love your video tour! It was so fun seeing your house all together at once! I’m curious if you have ever given tips on how to keep up with the housework – like how often you are vacuuming/cleaning bathroom/sweeping kitchen – that sort of thing – to keep the house always looking minty fresh? Your blog/house/family life is just so amazing! Thanks so much for sharing it! :)

Aw thanks Christy! There’s a cleaning/organizing section on our Projects page (see that Projects link under our blog header?) so that has some tips for ya!
