We have no idea what our future living room will actually look like, but today this is what I’m loving:
- Soft gray walls (like Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter) with crisp glossy white trim
- A huge comfy sectional (with washable covers- score) in a gray-brown hue. The fact that this baby is $848 has me permasmiling.
- Some sort of woven round ottomans (like these) that can be moved around for casual texture that can double as extra seating in a pinch.
- This sleek TV stand in high gloss gray from Ikea (we figure a room that’s big enough for a large sectional will probably dwarf our current TV stand, so we might need to go a bit bigger).
- A lovely wool rug like this one with a gray and lime green modern design- although the price for an 8 x 10 (which we’d need with a large sectional) has us sweating a little. Maybe it’ll go on sale?
- This cool white deer head hanging above a fireplace or even above a nice wide doorway (it would look so great with our exotic animal-inspired lime and caramel colored zebra pillows).
- These aforementioned pillows.
- Some bold green curtains like these (which we could DIY with fabric and hem tape, just like the ones we made for Clara’s nursery).
So there you have it. All the items that are floating around in my head for our future living room- at least at this moment. I’m so friggin’ impatient. I’m like that kid in the back seat asking “are we there yet?” every two seconds.

Is it truly easy to get stains out of slipcovers? I’m nervous. I’ve never had good luck getting stains out of anything. Any tips? And do you have to iron the slipcovers after washing them or do you just live with a bit of a fresh-from-the-dryer wrinkly look? Thanks!

We have a dog and a baby and a tan and a white slipcover. Our tips are just to wash them when they look dirty according to instructions. I don’t even pre-treat the stains or anything, just toss them in with eco-friendly Seventh Generation soap and follow the tag instructions. Over the past few years they have been dirty & washed a ton of times and still look mint.

Hey guys!
I was planning on getting this exact media console for our bare living room. But ended up getting something a little more simple (not as glossy) but really sleek/modern for $50! Thanks for the inspiration, I wouldn’t have been able to drag my husband to Ikea without this moodboard!! I posted the new purchase at

Let me know what you think?
Thanks again!

Ooooh, we have the very same couch… plus an oversized ottoman. I’d highly recommend it. It is firm, but softening, and the addition of the ottoman makes it the coziest of places. L shaped, U shaped, big double chaise shaped, etc. And the armrests double as side tables–ours hold magazines, my macbook, the occasional drink on a tray, etc.–or extra seating.
If you get it, I hope you love it!

LOVE this mood board! We currently did a very very light gray (pearl white, by Pratt & Lambert) with our dark brown furniture and dark brown leather sofa! We are accenting with some greens, and purples. I am also doing grey in the bathroom! Can grey be a favorite color? :)
In my next house, I will do a grey sofa similar to this.

Hey!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!! :) :) :)
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and each year I like to get into the mood-extend the holiday, as it were-by reading “Thanksgiving novels.” And in addition, most of these stories are mostly about families, about coming together to heal old hurts and getting thanks for the gift of love. . . ::

Hi,
I love you current sofa’s, but I thought you had a pottery barn sofa. I was wondering are you worried about the quality of an Ikea sofa? We’re in the market for a new sofa and we really want something that will last over 5 years. Our current couch is only a year old and one of the seat cushions is getting all weird.
Im very excited about your new home and the many projects!

We had a Pottery Barn sofa (we sold it before we moved since we didn’t have a spot for it with two other sofas and two daybeds) but we were never overjoyed with it. You can read this post for more info about that. As for Ikea sofas, we have a bunch of friends/family members with multiple kids and Ikea sofas that they’ve had for years. Two moms of three have had the Ektorp sofa for over a decade. With three kids each! The slipcovers are great to wash and the seat cushions aren’t all weird. According to both of them it’s a better sofa than the expensive ones they got. So we’re excited to give an Ikea sectional a try- especially since they have easy wash slipcovers on nearly all of the sofas they sell.

I’ve been on the hunt for a sectional as well! That’s perfect and the prize is amazing….the closest Ikea to us is over 2hrs, but I think that would be worth the trip.
