I was going to do it. I was finally going to buy the Coco mirror from West Elm that I’ve been obsessing over forever. Yes, we’re moving, but it’s such a classic piece that it could be hung anywhere in this house or the next one. And I was just gonna go for it- all $199 of it. Even though I’m usually too cheap to buy things full price (even if I’m head over heels in love) I had this whole talk with myself about putting on my big girl pants and bucking up and just splurging for something that I’m 99.9% certain would make me happy for decades. Then I saw this when I clicked the link.
No longer available? I want to die.
Psst- We announced our big winner for this week’s contest at the end of Monday’s original contest post. Click here to see if it’s you.

This just happened to me, too, with a pair of jeggings. Out of stock. Boo!
Emily says
say it ain’t so! that’s a gorgeous mirror! now what will you do?
ps – i totally love how you are blogging in real time now :)
Iris says
Oh man!!! I can’t even tell you how many times this has happened to me because I too, hate paying full price. =( Chin up girlie! If it was meant to be…you’ll find it where you least expect it! Good luck and I am crosing fingers…for you!

Cait @ Hernando House says
Oh no!!! I’m sorry your mirror is no longer available! :( I have had that happen to me SO many times, and it sucks every time!
Anna says
Oh no! I hate it when that happens!
Have you tried stopping by a local West Elm store? Usually, they discontinue an item online first, even if the “leftovers” are still available in stores.
mike @ the lil house that could says
Give them a call! They probably have limited in stock and as such, are no longer displaying it on the site.
We were eye-ing expensive shelves from Pottery Barn. Right when we were ready to make the purchase, they were shown as out of stock! I called the 800 number and sure enough, they still had them in stock and ON SALE!
jennifer says
Hey, I wonder if you could call around to a few of their stores to locate one and have it shipped to you?
katie @ k+b says
my condolences… really. i really feel your paint. next step? start scoping out ebay and craigslist !!
katie @ k+b says
wow.. you can tell whats been on my mind! feel your paint?? i feel your pain.. and possibly your paint. ha!
kippyjr says
We have it at my local West Elm/Pottery Barn outlet, and I think it was like $79! If you have one near you, CALL!
Leah says
Then it was not meant to be. I bet you can find something similar if you look. That mirror probably would have been a dust magnet… or at least sometimes it is easier to tell yourself that in hindsight.
Meredith says
You both have enough DIY talent to recreate that mirror!
Angela says
Just try to view it as a sign that there is a bigger and better mirror out there for you… and its probably a few less clams :)
Alicia says
Did you try calling West Elm? I use to work at PBK and they can usually look up and see what stores might have it in stock. If a store has that mirror in stock they can ship it to you. That is of course if you have your big girl panties on but this may be your last chance until one surfaces on ebay (probably at a higher price…)
Sarah says
I’m sure you could DIY one. :)
Nicole Marie says
Sherry, a couple of months ago I saw this mirror at the outlet mall. In Texas, the Pottery Barn outlet has West Elm and Williams Sonoma items in it also. That’s where I saw it. I know you have mentioned a Pottery Barn outlet near you, so I would check there. Hope you find it! I know you probably REALLY want it now that you can’t have it!
YoungHouseLove says
Ok, so I’m currently on hold with West Elm. More details in a minute.
Thanks for all the suggestions!

Jessica @ How Sweet says
What a bummer. That is GORGEOUS!
Laura says
Try to find it on Craigslist, Google, or ebay. That’s what I always do when I wait too long to purchase something and then it’s sold out. You may find it for less..woot!
katie says
Maybe you can make something similar to it & save some money! You would need a round mirror in a frame, some hot glue, and … something to replace the dried coconut pieces… hmmm… bleached leather cut in pointed shapes & formed with some kind of glue? Or you could go for a similar look using stones, shells, or spray painted plant material.
Christin says
Haha. I don’t mean to laugh, but your story sounds just like me. You know the Andalusia rug West Elm sells in the lovely horizon color? I had my eye on that but it was $249 for the size I needed it in. I finally broke down and bought it but it was on backorder for months. So during those months, I canceled my order. Then I regretted it, so I reordered again. Well it was on backorder for even longer than originally. I went through the canceling/buying cycle one more time, and finally just bit the bullet. So after about 7 months, I’m now the proud owner of the rug and I absolutely adore it as much as I thought I would. Unlike you, my rug is still available, but I’ve been eyeing up that same mirror for sometime as well. I guess sometimes when you see something you absolutely adore, you just have to bite the bullet and get it.
Kate @ Twenty-Six To Life says
Ugh. What a bummer. I hate it when that happens!
Kelly says
Here’s a mirror that is very similar.
http://www.ochre.net/en/display.product.php?productID=a10
The color might not work for you and a the shipping maybe too costly… no price is listed either.
If it’s meant to be, you’ll track the West Elm mirror down or find it somewhere for probably half the cost. May the decorating gods bless you.
Meagan says
I could totally make that it would just be out of clay(I’m a potter)instead
Lauren B. says
Oh! It’s like the mirror is double-dog daring you to recreate it! (except it’ll be less expensive and much more custom) Do it! (and then post a tutorial!) :)
Paige says
Ugh seriously so depressing when this happens! I’m sure you’ll find an even better mirror – or even better, you’ll find this one 50% off on ebay.
Agent Scully says
Yep, West Elm did this to my couch recently. After 3 years of looking for a couch, I found one (ONE!) that I loved. and I was just waiting for Fall to buy it. I looked at the website last week and it’s gone. I also want to die.
Kele says
The same thing happened to me awhile back with some Pottery Barn items. Just because it is no longer availible online doesn’t mean there aren’t a few left at stores (and usually on clearance prices). I called Pottery Barn, and they were able to tell me which stores still had it, and I called the store and had it shipped from the store! If all the stores are out, maybe one will pop up on ebay…
Lindsey says
If you really, REALLY love it, West Elm actually copied a design of the mirror from a brand called Ochre. It has mercury glass inside of a regualar mirror and a vastly inflated price tag of about $1400.

maryeliz says
Sorry about the mirror. It is pretty. But I had the same thought as Leah — it looks like a bear to dust. Difficult to move without breaking, too. An even better mirror awaits you, I just know it.
Tina says
I HATE when that happens! So now, if I really, really want something, I buy it and make sure I can return it if I need to.
Beth says
This happened to me this morning when I went to buy The Clara Rug (Love it!) hahah – It’s out of stock probably because all your readers bought it. Well, you may have done it to yourself (with the mirror) because you advertised it in your baby pool post. haha :) Good luck finding it with the suggestions above!
Focipresley (Bon) says
Oh Sherry, I am sure someone will come to your rescue!
Jessica F. says
Crossing fingers for you!
Roo {NiceGirlNotes} says
1) This just happened to me with an awesome shirt Gap removed from my cart as I was checking out.
2) If it’s any consolation whatsoever, that gorgeous mirror looks like it’s a pain to clean.
3) I still hope you get it. Maybe you could tell West Elm to find me a shirt, too.
Stacey says
Ooooh, I HATE when that happens!!! It’s even more upsetting when it happens after you’ve been trying to be so good and not buy the item on impulse…like all those good intentions were for naught.
I hope West Elm tracks one down for you…ON SALE!!! Somehow, you seem lucky like that ;o)
Krista says
Oh no! Don’t give up Sherry! Get on the phone asap and call customer service. Surely they can track on down in a store somewhere!
YoungHouseLove says
It’s not looking too good guys. Customer service gave me the number of one store I could try to call to see if they have one but they don’t open for three hours and she said the info that they had one might be wrong. I guess I won’t give up until I know anything for sure though…

Kelly says
That is the WORST feeling ever!
Karen J says
If they have one in Dallas (Mockingbird Station), I’d be more than happy to pick it up for you and ship it. But … that would REALLY be paying full price plus+. Maybe you could DIY it like this one one Isabella & Max Rooms:
http://isabellaandmaxrooms.blogspot.com/2010/08/sunburst-mirror-project.html
Emily says
Ouch. I’m sorry that really sucks. There is a vanity set that i’ve been wanting forever, and I might just buy it now incase it sells out.
Did you try Ebay or amazon?
Wendy says
You could SO make that mirror yourself….and then post directions so we can make one also.
Elisa says
Oh PLEASE find a way to get it, so I can live vicariously through you… I have been in love with that mirror since I first saw it in their catalog two seasons ago…
Kimberly says
I actually saw this at the WS/PB/WE outlet in San Marcos, TX. Not sure what the price was at the time (maybe 2 weeks ago). Have you checked your local outlet?
Good luck!
YoungHouseLove says
Alas, we don’t have a local outlet. The closest one is a few hours away, but I put in a call to try to locate one before driving anywhere and West Elm said there might be one on the West Coast and that’s all they saw in the system. So now I’m counting down the seconds until it’s 10am WST so I can give them a call to see. Fingers crossed…

Sherry, my darling little master of all things DIY, you seriously don’t think you can make one of these puppies yourself? I think you can.
Balsa wood is light, cheap and easy to carve, and I’m willing to bet a fabric store carries a trim like they have around the middle. I’m just sayin’
Jenn L @ peas and crayons says
Awww! Crap! I think we’ve all been in this situation once or twice (or a bazillion times if you price stalk like I do) but each time it’s still this epic let down! I hope you wind up finding a store that still has one in stock!!! Best of luck!
Fingers crossed!!!!!!
Marah says
That’s the worst! I splurged on a new dress after landing a new job last week. I ordered it online and got a sweet discount they were offering for 1 day only. I got the email confirmation and everything. Two days later I got an email that they were sorry but the item is now out if stock and they cancelled my order! I had already planned on wearing it for my first day at my new office. Still a little steamed about it…
Joni Tyrrell says
ROFL ROFL!
but sorry….lol this happens to me all the time too! i think do i want it? do i want to spend the money? this and that. and then when i finally decide – then it’s gone. This happens with handbags i’m looking for, coats, decor, you name it lol
Elizabeth says
I hate it when that happens…not home decor related, but…I totally wanted the knit hats that the U.S. athletes were wearing at the last winter games, but they were soooo expensive. I finally broke down and ordered one…and then got an e-mail the next day that basically said “oops, we know it was on the site and we confirmed the order, but we really don’t have anymore…sorry bout your luck!”
Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
kyley says
oh I hate when that happens!!
we bought these west elm medallion curtains on sale from them a while back for this BIG window we have in our living room. I told my husband before hand we needed 4 (because the window was so big -thinking i’d sew or double up two on each side).
he talked me out of it saying the outer curtains (we have a double rod) would make it so you only need 2 panels because they would hide the gap.
needless to say he was wrong and I scour ebay EVERYDAY hoping the curtains will pop up since west elm sold out. grrrr!
any YHL readers out there want to sell me a set 84″ medallion curtains – white linen with gold medallions?? :)
Marnie says
Ugh! I feel your frustration…that just happened to me yesterday! I saw a very cool vintage style, zinc accordion wall hook on shopterrain.com on Tuesday. After thinking about it all Tuesday night, went back online Wednesday to purchase and it’s out of stock! I sent their customer service an email to see if they will be getting more, but have yet to hear back. :( Hope you are able to track down your mirror!
Sarah says
I think this is a sign that you should DIY one!
