I was going to do it. I was finally going to buy the Coco mirror from West Elm that I’ve been obsessing over forever. Yes, we’re moving, but it’s such a classic piece that it could be hung anywhere in this house or the next one. And I was just gonna go for it- all $199 of it. Even though I’m usually too cheap to buy things full price (even if I’m head over heels in love) I had this whole talk with myself about putting on my big girl pants and bucking up and just splurging for something that I’m 99.9% certain would make me happy for decades. Then I saw this when I clicked the link.
No longer available? I want to die.
Psst- We announced our big winner for this week’s contest at the end of Monday’s original contest post. Click here to see if it’s you.

you should request copy cat chic to find you a similar one, maybe for cheaper!

I bought towels from West Elm 18 months ago and later I wanted a couple more. For a long time they were “Not Available” on the website, but one day they popped back up so I snagged 2 more. Maybe it will come back!
Courtney B says
This is exactly the way I felt when I visited your blog the day you posted that the shop was closed! I had wanted the botanical prints for soooo long, and I kept thinking someone in my family would get tired of hearing me talk about them and buy them for me! :( Now I can only hope that they will become available again!
Kallie says
Have you looked in any of the stores? I got the round capiz mirror from there a while ago when I couldn’t find it on the site anymore. It was even cheaper because it was a floor model! Also, sometimes they still have stuff in the back and you wouldn’t have to pay shipping! :)
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I’m definitely on the case. More info soon…

AGH!!! Man, I can’t stand when that happens! That mirror is SO you!!! I see one person said she saw it at an outlet!! Looking forward to a post saying you’ve found it!!! I know you will!
Heather Wendling says
I didn’t read all of the comments so you may already have this info but just in case, this might help.
The West Elm store in Austin TX (where I live) opens at 11 am CST. I just called them and was told the West Elm in Santa Monica CA might have 2 of the Coco round mirrors in stock. The CA story might not be open yet but the number to that store is 310.576.7270
Good luck! Hope it works out!
Alison says
I did the EXACT same thing last week, but with a rug, not a mirror. I debated for weeks about it. When I finally bit the bullet, it was out of stock. I thought I would wait a few days to see if it was restocked, only to have it pulled from the website all together. Heartbreak!
AimeeH says
Same thing just happened to me with some West Elm pendant lights. I emailed the company and they gave me a list of stores that claim (by their inventory) that they carry the items. They do most of the work for you!
Kate at Dream To Life says
OH NO! This really is awful. And kind of funny! In the nicest way :>)
Laura says
The exact same thing happened to me when I wanted to buy the Cube ceramic lamp in boiled gold from West Elm. The website said that it was unavailable and a couple of days ago it was available again! I went ahead and made the purchase, but the lamp won’t ship for another two weeks. I usually don’t pay full price for items either, but some things are hard to replicate and that mirror is FAB!
Good luck with your quest!!!!
Katie Truelove says
I hate when that happens… such a fine line between waiting for a sale and no chance to get it every again. I will say, though, that I’ve seen “no longer available” stuff come back 6 months later…
Emily says
Sad! I bet you could make one.
danielle says
i bet you will get your hands on one…plus there are all these leads on here for outlet stores with them. good luck.
i just did this too – there was a vintage white chair i wanted for my vanity area in my bedroom – it went on sale for 50 bucks and i was so excited…but then i saw it was $40 shipping and i got annoyed and didn’t order. finally i woke up and realized under 100 bucks for this chair still wasn’t a bad price and i really loved it and it would have looked great in my bedroom…but it was sold out of course.

Jen @ New Shade of Green says
Oh NOOOOOOO! I feel your pain. This has happened to me more than once, mainly because I’m so hesitant to spend $$$ waiting for it to go on sale. So sorry. Hopefully you’ll be able to find one or something very similar on Ebay.
Alice says
How tragic! Well, not really tragic, but disappointing nonetheless!
I ordered a turquoise utensil holder from Anthropologie online (I checked the store first and they didn’t have it there) and when I ordered it online I got an email saying it wasn’t available even though it said it was available on their website. I thought maybe it was a mistake, so I ordered it a 2nd time online with the same email saying it wasn’t available. I called Anthropologie and they said it wasn’t available any longer in that color. Stubborn me for some reason didn’t believe them as it still showed as available online. So I placed an order it for the utensil holder for a 3rd (and final) time and guess what! This time was the charm as it arrived 2 weeks later! I am glad I didn’t give up!
Callie says
Whenever something like this happens to me, I always think “Well, it was meant to be”
You’re totally going to find something similar that’s more affordable, or more beautiful… or maybe you’ll find the same mirror someplace else for a better price!
Autumn says
Arrgh! I so feel your pain! Aren’t we always telling ourselves to sleep on it, wait and see if you still want it as badly? Then the disappointment! I’m still mourning this PERFECT jacket I lost this week…
Julie says
Commission a crafty reader here to make one for you! There are so many talented people who could try to recreate it. I love it. It looks like a beautiful sunflower.
Cari says
Oh no! This has happened to me SO many times I’ve lost count. I finally learned that if I’m stalking something repeatedly and it’s not going to cause me to have to starve for a month to get it, then just buy it! I can’t tell you how happy I am now with this new outlook on life. Not to mention my friends who always had to listed to my sob stories…
Call around, a store somewhere WILL have it.
layersofmeaning says
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! I was going to get it for my nursery!!! I’m going to WE on Saturday, maybe they’ll have it at the store.
OwningSingle says
O NO!!! I no exactly how you feel. This exact thing happened to me with the Lotus dinnerware from CB2. I waited and waited for it to go on sale and it never did so when i finally decided to just get it,most of the pieces were all gone and I’m much to anal to not have been able to get a complete set. Even when they got to limited quantity they never went on sale. I was so hurt.
Michelle says
This happens to me ALL the time! I wanted the Leo Double Sconce from Pottery Barn for our bathroom and by the time we were done with the reno, it was no longer avail! I just about died as well. Ugh!
JessieBelle says
DUDE! The suspense is killing me! You have to let us know if the West Coast stores have one! Gah!
…I love following your blog, I feel like this is happening to me personally. lol

Nope, the two they showed on the computer was an error! Boooo. Still calling outlet stores though…

Oh I HATE when that happens!
That happened to me when I waited too long to buy the Boston Terrier throw pillows from The Company Story.
Even threw away the catalog, because I *knew* that I wouldn’t pay $30 each for a throw pillow that I could make myself.
Then when I finally broke down & decided to buy them – because I never really was going to make them – they were GONE.
And then didn’t even have the catalog to assist in making a knockoff!
Decor-pain!

I have also been drooling over that mirror for months and waiting for it to go on sale. Doesn’t everything go on sale at some point? When I looked for it a few weeks ago, I couldn’t find it. I’m bummed out about it too. Maybe I should have just splurged for it. It was soo cool!!
Gina says
I painted my master bedroom the darkest shade of jade teal in Ralph Lauren River Rock paint custom matched (10 gallons of it – it’s a big room) to match a West Elm Comforter… That was out of stock and nowhere to be found when I got done painting… ughg
Miranda says
Sad, sad. It happens to me all the time when waiting for items to go on sale. I think you have to take the good with the bad when you’re a “thrifty” person. :)
Clare Schlegel says
you can maybe get one mailed to you from this store in South Africa?? It looks like the exact same thing. What your really need is to find the source. See if West Elm will tell you where they got the mirror from (and of course it may be cheaper to buy it direct). Good Luck! It is beautiful!!!! Knowing you guys you’ll think of a way to re-create it! Start googling coco chips!

A year or two ago when you posted your home sources I really wanted the chandelier you have in your small bathroom but it was no longer being sold at the store so I feel your pain!
I think you could easily DIY something though – the thought of paying $200 for a mirror almost made my heart stop.
Robyn in Chicago says
Oh man. That is the WORST! I hate when I blow things like that.
I didn’t know that West Elm had OUTLETS. That is so good to know.
YoungHouseLove says
They’re actually Pottery Barn outlets, but they carry West Elm stuff.

Oh, that sucks! I hate when that happens-it happens to me a lot, especially with clothes and accessories. If I recall I think they were one of your sponsors, maybe you can call them up and see if they have any kicking around somewhere pretty please? LOL.
If not, you guys are the King & Queen of DYI, I’m sure you could create a replica for a lot less. It is a gorgeous mirror and is definitely a classic piece!:)
Clare says
okay I am the queen googler. Here is a list of craft mirror suppliers in the Philippines (where that mirror is apparently from). Now it’s up to you how far you want to pursue it:

Snickrsnack Katie says
Which outlet stores have them? Maybe post which ones and if a reader lives nearby, they can go check it out and see if it looks good. Then if it does, that person can package it up and send it to you. I know I would do it for you!
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Katie,
We thought about that option, buy paying a reader to send something to us just feels too weird- especially if something happened to it during shipping (which would just make everything awkward). The fact that more than a few of the outlets we called admitted that the mirrors they had looked a bit bedraggled has us less than excited to get our hands on them now. Alas, it just wasn’t meant to be.

LOVE your blog, btw. I’m OBSESSED. xo

Wow… that was a bit too honest… she obviously liked the mirror enough to buy one. Rude.

This happened to me this summer with our outdoor dining furniture. Found a set that I LOVED at Target and contemplated buying it for about a month after doing hours and hours of research on finding the right table for our family. Then, I just decided to go for it one day. As I tried to place my order it was “no longer availabe.” I even went as far as calling the Target 800 number to see if it was truly out for good. They informed me that it was discontinued, never coming in again, ect. So, just for the fun of it, two days later I looked it up again and THERE.IT.WAS. even for a cheaper price!!! Hang in there, you may be surprised!
Kai says
I hate that. I’ve been saving up for a new duvet set and euro shams from West Elm and I’m constantly checking to make sure they are still in stock.
Lonely Wife Project says
Worst feeling in the world. Hang in there. You’ll find other fantastic options!
ginger says
I’m so sorry — I thought for sure they’d find them for you!
I was having the same angst over some WE pillow covers. Suddenly, they were out online and out in my local store. Local store did not volunteer to check other stores, just said they’re all gone. BOO.
Today, I’m reading this, and at your readers suggestions to you, I too decided to call WE customer service; she found the pillow covers, transferred me straight over to that store, and they are on their way to me!
Don’t give up Sherry…this is going to show up for you, I know it will!
Kimberlea says
Listening to Pandora at the moment, and the Coco mirror showed up on a West Elm ad…cruel cruel cruel. SO sad that it’s gone! :( Wishing you the best in this time of mourning.

Okay, well I thought I would at least extend the offer. Not that there are any Pottery Barn or West Elm outlets in my area.
Anyway, like I said before, it probably just wasn’t meant to be. Honestly, I don’t think it is a very good looking mirror to begin with – I think you could create something MUCH more pretty with your DIY skillz. :)
Allison says
This is why I don’t wait when I see something I love. That feeling of missing out is haunting. But your frugal ways and careful consideration when buying new items are probably much more rewarding.
Erin @ Domestic Adventure says
Is it sad that I’ve checked back several times today to see how you are making out on the mirror hunt!? I love how all the YHLers were making calls and finding sources for you. Sorry that it didn’t work out–it is one gorgeous mirror…
Laura says
We had a similar experience! We bought a curtain rod at the Chicago store and thankfully had a gift card to rationalize the price. We loved it so much that we finally gave in and decided to order a second full price curtain rod from WestElm.com. Sadly, though, we have now been waiting for it for 6 months because it is ‘on backorder.’ Feel happy that at least you can see that it is “no longer available” before ordering! Perhaps this is the money fairy punishing us for paying full price?
Dana @ House*Tweaking says
Aw, Sherry! I want to cry for you! That’s such a hard line to walk…cheap-o saver vs. one-time splurger on that great thing you know you’d have/love forever. I have had those moments where I’m kicking myself a day later bc I didn’t just grab that awesome ______ {insert awesome item here}. Oh well. Live and learn, I guess.
Hope you find/make something just as beautiful with an even cheaper price tag!
Sarah says
Why do we always do this? I saw an alpaca blanket that I ADORED in Ralph Lauren a few years ago…it was the color scheme and the style I wanted but I balked at the huge price even though I had been looking for more than 2 years. After spending 3 months regretting my decision, I decided to give it to myself as a 30th birthday present only to find it out of stock everywhere. I called Ralph Lauren stores for 4 hours trying to find it and was about to give up when finally, the NY store had one in stock! And every time I look at that gorgeous blanket, it makes me happy all over again! I am so sorry your mirror didn’t work out, but is there something else you have been drooling over that you could give yourself permission to splurge on? You did have a baby this year…that in itself deserves a little splurging…
Leigh says
Hi! This happened with me once as well. I had bought two chairs to see if they went with our dining room table. When we decided we liked them and went back to buy 4 more they were gone! I called them on the phone and they suggested calling a few of their bigger stores to see if they had any left. I was able to call around to a few of their stores in NY and they still had them! I paid with my credit card over the phone and they shipped them out for me. Maybe this would work for you?
Lindsey Portugal says
Ok do NOT give up. I was in love with this comforter from Pottery Barn when I got married. It was not available anymore (the color was discontinued completely from Pottery Barn). So I called all the outlets and I even called the factory. I had no luck!… then about a week later .. I decided to just “check again”.. sure enough they had a few left that they recently opened up as “clearance”. So not only was I able to buy it but i got a 40% discount. So… just to say.. keep checking… you may get lucky!
Lauren says
Sherry,
I’m in Memphis, TN…and they have them here in the outlet…in surprisingly good shape (as of Tuesday) I have looked at it over and over debating on whether or not to get it. Are you sure you don’t want to ask a reader?
Good luck!!
YoungHouseLove says
Aw thanks Lauren, you’re too kind! We just wouldn’t want to put anyone out, so we figure if it’s meant to be maybe they’ll bring it back to a store near us in the spring or something!
