We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

Yeayyy!! Congrats!! Sending good vibes for a uneventful/happy pregnancy!
Ashely B says
I just gotta say, I love you guys!! You are such an inspiration to me!! I primarily come to this blog for ideas on home improvement, but getting to know you guys as the adorable family you are is awesome too! But, the main reason I come here is for the decor and renovation inspiration. I could not imagine going through what you went through during the birth of Clara, and the fact that these people who claim to love you keep dredging it up with all the incessant baby watching just rude!! Its not like you owe it to them to talk about your personal life. CONGRATULATIONS, John, Sherry, Clara, and Burger on new Baby P!!! You guys are Awesome!!! Keep doing what you’re doing!!

Congrats!! I just had an April baby so I remember announcing my pregnancy this time last year :) My all day sickness was awful for 16 weeks, as much as it sucks it is reassuring!
P.S I also photoshopped my belly out of pics as I started showing immediately! It seems once your first child reaches a certain age your stomach is analyzed constantly. Got to love photoshop!
LMN says
Here’s my question: Just to be hilarious, Why didn’t you wait until you had the baby? And then, BAM-BABY ON YHL. Out of respect, I have no real questions. Just lots of happy thoughts and good vibes your way :-)
Kelly K says
YAY!!! Congratulations! So very happy for you guys! And I must say I’m excited to be pregnant at the same time as both you and Katie B. (Due in mid-March.) :-D

So very happy for you folks! April is a lovely month for a baby – my first was in April, though it was a horrid cold one the year she was born. Best part is not having to be huge and uncomfortable across the hottest months of the year! Sorry Sherry that you had such horrid “morning” sickness, but you are at least in good company as so did the Duchess of Cambridge. ;-)
Megan M says
SO EXCITED for you all!! As someone who experienced 2 out of my 3 pregnancies high risk, just know that there are so many prayers coming your way for a safe, healthy Sherry and baby! (Btw, both of my high risks came out perfect and healthy.)
Ivette says
Such awesome news! I wish you guys a easy and healthy pregnancy and baby!

Lynn @ Our Useful Hands says
So generally I’m one of those ladies that screams in the pregnant ladies face while flailing my arms and jumping up and down. So yeah, picture me doing that. Ooh I just realized there will be double preggos on the internets with you and Katie! My world can’t be any more joyous…may your pregnancy, labor and delivery go like gangbusters my dear!
My best, Lynn
*I’m all teary eyed guys…best news on a weekday to get.
Jocelyn says
Is it creepy that I cried a little? Congratulations to your whole family!!! What an exciting new chapter. It will be so neat to see how Clara handles being not just Clara, your daughter, but Clara, the big sister!
Elizabeth says
Congratulations, Petersiks :) First time I could get through since I read the announcement, guess you had a little site crash/overload! Looking forward to all the nursery preparations, hope you’re feeling a bit better!
Rachel says
Congratulations!!!
Shedding a few happy tears over here. My first child will be one year old in just a few weeks, and I am still sooo emotional about the whole pregnancy experience (loved it) and first 11 precious months of her life (loving it). I’m excited to relive some of these moments through your upcoming posts.
Questions for Friday’s post:
-Will you find out the baby’s gender ahead of time this time or be surprised like last time?
-How did you share the news with Clara and what was her response?
-How does this pregnancy feel emotionally compared to your pregancy with Clara? Do you feel any different (knowing a bit more what to expect) this time or is it the same feelings of excitement, uncertainty, etc?
-Any initial plans for the nursery, and when will you start decorating it?
I’m so very excited for you. I wish you a healthy, safe and happy pregnancy. May God continue to bless you and your family!!!
Jenny says
Congratulations! What wonderful news!!!! Hopefully folks can let you share what you want when you want. Thanks for sharing life with people and for sharing your talent. I love it! Many blessings for a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery!
Brittany says
Congratulations!!! So exciting! As for being high risk, I will be praying for a smooth pregnancy and healthy baby!
My sister-in-law had preeclampsia with her first child and he was born at 26 weeks weighing only 1 pound, 7 ounces (he’s now a healthy 3 year old, only a few weeks younger than Clara)… She just had her 2nd child–a completely normal, smooth pregnancy with a healthy 7 pound, 5 ounce baby boy born full term!
Betsey says
YAY!!!!!
Lorelei Reed says
NOW let’s talk about names….in fact let’s have a contest! And a “guess the day/time/length/weight contest” and a decorate the nursery contest! and a measure the belly girth contest! and a measure the sympathy weight gain contest! and and and and…..no wait let’s just watch as this lovely family celebrates life!
(ps…if you need me I am reeeeeeely good at naming! xo!)
Helene says
Congrats!!!So happy for you guys!! Wishing you a super healthy pregnancy without the risky drama of Clara’s.
Adeline says
I wish everything goes as smoothly as possible for you… and that Burger won’t be too jealous of the new baby (he seems so serious on the last photo).
cali says
oh i forgot my questions!
was it planned?
if it wasnt planned, were you freaked?
if it was, how long did it take?
is sherry scared and taking any specific precautions with Claras birth in mind?
is she SO excited to be pregs with katie?
Allyson says
Congratulations!! What an exciting time! We were able to announce on Monday that we’re due in April too! It’s going to be exciting to follow along with your progress as well!
Nicky says
So happy I read this at home instead of at work (as I usually do) because I couldn’t help jumping up and down in my chair while frantically clapping hands and squealing… I’m so happy for you guys!
Jenny says
Big huge congrats on your upcoming arrival!
4 questions:
Was this the secret project you spoke about during Blogiversary?
How did you tell John?
How did you tell Clara?
Are you going to find out if the new Bean is a boy or girl?
Veronica says
I have followed your blog since pretty close to the beginning, I am so happy for you guys! I have read Clara’s birth story and I experienced complications in my 2010 pregnancy as well. We just (as in 3 weeks ago) welcomed baby number 2. Just wanted to say Good Luck! I found this pregnancy harder on me emotionally than the last (apparently I wasn’t as “over” my first birth as I thought). I know random stranger reassurance isn’t too helpful, but My second birth was a dream, and recovery was so much easier (I had to have a repeat section). I wish i could have relaxed and enjoyed it more instead of being so scared of what could be. I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy and a great experience this time around. It can be done :) Also, my daughter is three and she is over the moon for her little brother, it is so sweet!
Hillary says
Congratulations, you guys! It must have been a tough few months with the pressure of a new house on top of first tri stuff. First trimester kicks my ass.
That being said, where’s our nursery mood board? Give us all the mood boards!
Madeline says
SO exciting!!! Congratulations and good job keeping the secret! You guys deserve to enjoy some things all on your own without the rest of us sneaking in :) Cheers to a happy pregnancy!
