We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

clara belle looks so pretty and happy!
congratulations! there was a couple of times where I was…is she pregnant and then I thought maybe I should not be so invested/nosey in my favorite read every day blog!!!
Emily R. says
So, so happy for all of you! I hope everything goes smoothly along the way. That’s gonna be one lucky baby! :)
Leah says
Congratulations!! So happy for all the Petersiks!
Louisa says
CONGRATS! So happy for you guys!
Hilde says
That’s great news – Congratulations!
Lisa says
Congrats! And good luck. Lots of good luck.
The only thing that got me through my “morning” sickness was reminding myself that statistically the fact that I couldn’t keep food down meant things were more likely ok with the baby. That and my toddler rubbed my back while I hurled every morning with #2. I wanted her to brush her teeth but it was sweet.
Because it’s considered high risk, do you get a choice between a c-section and a vbac or is it recommended medically to just repeat the section? My 1st was breech and therefore a c-section and with #2 we picked to repeat the section because it makes it easier to get family here to watch #1 (no one lives close). I’m not proud of that choice, but I suspect it happens more than not for a variety of reasons (most short term disability also pays an extra 2 weeks for surgery vs not). Long way of saying when it’s a choice I wonder what factors various people consider for choosing to repeat or try a vbac (where possible).

Yay! You and Katie B. get to have babies at the same time again! My best friend and I had both our 1st & 2nd kiddos at the same time. Such a fun thing to experience with a close friend. Congrats!
Tara says
Congratulations!! SO excited for you guys!! I hope and pray that everything goes smoothly this time around!!! Can’t wait to see what you do with the nursery!
Carrie says
Huge congrats! I’m expecting my first a few weeks before you. I feel for you on the all day sickness, Sherry, mine just let up but it was brutal!

Great news!! What a lucky little one! Clara’s smile tells us all what great parents you two have been. Wishing you a healthy remaining pregnancy and delivery!

Yeah! I am so excited to you all! I just want you to know that there is a group here at my work in little ol’ Tulsa Oklahoma that follows you and KB and we have been e-mailing about this all morning! It’s like you both are our mutual friends that we can’t wait to see!

So much love coming at you guys … this is wonderful news. Sherry, girl, hang in there (and onto your breakfast!) I am so happy for you. Our daughter is two, and I know so well how precious these little beings are. Congratulations on the fantastic news! :)
Katie says
Oh! Congrats!!! All my best & I’ll love watching who arrives!!!!
Matt says
Mazel tov, as my people say! After re-reading Clara’s birth story, I am both excited and anxious for you. To make this a productive comment, I’d be interested in hearing on Friday how you plan to deal with the stress. Yoga? Meditation? Live-in masseuse?
Jamie says
Awesome!! Congratulations from Texas! I have 5 kids and they are such a blessing. Hopefully the next two trimesters will be a little easier :) Love the pic’s and shirts and Burger’s expression!! Too funny.
Lindsay@Tell'er All About It says
Oh, CONGRATULATIONS, SHERRY AND JOHN!
I’ve honestly been so worried about your second pregnancy after all the delivery drama with the first. I wish you NOTHING BUT THE BEST for your second bambino! Since you are high risk, I can only imagine the hoops you will have to jump through.
Honest question and feel free not to respond, but do you think you will have to go on bed-rest for this pregnancy at all? I was legitimately thinking, “If they’re doing the show house PLUS renovating their own home, that might make another pregnancy tough.” But seriously – if that’s too personal, just feel free to pass go and ignore.
Deep down, however, NOTHING BUT THE BEST WISHES for you three (four? five?) and I hope and pray you have the safest best pregnancy and delivery EVER!
xoxo,
Lindsay@Tell’er All About It
Jane says
Congrats! I went all fan girl with arm waving and squealing and was like “OMG, Katie’s pregnant too!!” I found out last week I am expecting (only 5 weeks along) NONE of the family knows. Maybe I shouldn’t be putting that on the internet. lol OH WELL!! I <3 you guys!
Susie says
Congratulations!! I’m sure you are thrilled to be pregnant at the same time as BFF Katie!! How close are your due dates??
Elizabeth says
Congrats! :) I’m also due in April too, but I haven’t told anyone other than a few trusted friends. Waiting for the official start of 2nd trimester in another week or so to start telling my family, and hope to be able to tell my husband’s family in person. Though I would be 20 weeks the next time we saw them, so I’m thinking that would be a BIT late to share the news, so I might need to tell them over the phone. :)
I hope that all goes well for you. I’m still not feeling well myself, hoping that in another week or so I will not be seeing so much of the inside of my toilet. :)
Allie says
Congrats you guys! How excited was Clara when you told her the news? What a fun big sister she will be!
Mara says
Congratulations! So excited for you! I can’t even imagine what you’ve gone through the past few months to keep this a secret on the blog until you reached the “safe zone”, especially knowing that you’re high risk. Best wishes for a safe and smooth pregnancy from here on out… you deserve it! :)
Kelly says
Congratulations! I am also pregnant while we are renovating our first home. Please blog about any extra safety precautions you’ll be taking, and of course I can’t wait to see the nursery.
Cat says
As the 8% of your 40 year olds (when did I get old?!?!) God bless you all. You are a beautiful family. xo
Mollee says
Aww, huge congratulations to all of you! It’s so cool that you’ll have two spring beans! I just had one in May and would love to have the next one or two around that time too.
Sherry, you’re seriously my hero for doing all that you do while also being pregnant. I’ll leave the questions to the other elenty-million commenters — just wanted to say YAY!
kate @ This Wandering Life says
Love you guys. Please don’t let those lame-os about the photoshopped pic ruin this AWESOME day for you. Congratulations on being out of the first trimester!!!
Meghan C. says
Yay!!! So exciting!! There was a comment you made in a recent post that made me think that either you were pregnant or considering trying shortly. Either way, very happy for you all! April seems like a busy baby month… I’m expecting my first child at the end of April and so isn’t my doctor! Can’t wait to see what you guys have planned for a nursery!
Btw…. I cannot wait to see what your home looks like all decorated for Christmas this year… If there’s not some sort of garland on that stair bannister, I will be very sad cause decorated stairs are awesome!
Meghan C. says
Ps…. My doctor told me that lemonade and something salty (chips, pretzels) work well with nausea. Something about the sour, salty, crunchy thing. It’s worked a little for me, but the best I’ve found is a little bit of flatish, caffeine-free coke and a cracker or pretzel. I’m constantly nauseated in the afternoon so sometimes just a quick lie down on the couch does wonders.
YoungHouseLove says
Mmm, that sounds good!

Coke! I knew my best friend was pregnant when we sat down for lunch and she ordered a Coke (and not her usual water). She said that Coke was the ONLY thing that helped her nausea!! :)
Becka says
Congratulations, guys! I’m so happy for you two, the bean and the bun! New hashtag idea, right? What a happy, growing family you guys will be. Thanks so much for sharing!
Carrie says
Congrats!!! I’m 7 weeks and in morning sickness hell myself. Happy to hear you’re (hopefully) past that!!
What are your thoughts on painting while preg? I’d love to get started on some projects but I’m too nervous!
Also, any tips for taming the nausea beast? I’m trying everything over here! Haha
Kathy says
Yeah!! I’m new to your blog and just got your book in the mail last night! I flew home to look at it!! I’m so excited I get to follow this in real time!
Alicia W. says
Congratulations! I am very happy for all of you. You will all be in my prayers also. :) :) :) :) And from someone who had a complicated first delivery and a second high risk pregnancy, keep the stress down and believe in the best. Despite all the horrible things that happened the first time and the second pregnancy being high risk, the second delivery went more smoothly. Lots of happy thoughts are being sent to y’all!!
Daisy says
Many congratulations. Wishing you a healthy, happy pregnancy!
Erin says
Yayyyy! Congratulations! I can’t believe I’ve been reading long enough to remember when you announced you were pregnant with Clara. How exciting! Is this the ‘secret project’ you mentioned in Blogiversary post about how your time is spent? Just wondering if poor Sherry with her head in the toilet is the secret time consuming project, lol
Linda V. says
Gah!! I knew Sherry looked especially “glowy” in the Blogiversary video! I had a feeling and I am excited that I was right. Congrats! Congrats! Congrats! Very excited to welcome another Petersik to the blog world!
christine says
Congratulations to you all! Such a good looking family!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
What a happy, happy news!
Kim says
I dont have time to read all the comments but CONGRATS! Please try to enjoy this time alone with Clara and being Preggers though I know it is hard and personally if there are any mean commenters on here, dont publish them. This is too happy of news for those “secret baby” posters to come back!
Happy and Healthy thoughts for the next 6 – 7 months!
Darcy says
WOW!!!! I am soo freakin’ excited for you guys! I can’t imagine how we all didn’t hear Katie B scream when she found out you two are preggo at the same time again!!!! LOL!
Seriously — I am soo happy — I am smiling like a loon for you!!
I will be keeping you in my thoughts for a VERY safe and uneventful pregnancy and delivery!! I always said that the best thing about being “advanced maternal age” is that they give you lots of ultrasounds – so I hope that the same goes for you now that you are “high risk”! Seeing that baby and hearing the heartbeat are the best things in the world (until you get to hold them of course)!!!
Madelise says
Wow! Congratulations! Long time reader, first time commenter – this is just so exciting! Wishing you a smooth and safe pregnancy and delivery :) Will be praying for you!
Jean says
Great news!! Congrats!

Does your family have any strange names that they are hoping you name your new kid?
My husband and I could have been any of the following:
Salvatore
Granoma
Conchetta
Colorgio
Thankfully we ended up with Leif and Katie :)
Good luck picking a name!
