We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

Well not that you haven’t heard it 1,000 times, Congratulations!!!! Babies are the sweetest way to welcome someone into the world.
Jennifer says
So happy for you! Mine are 4 years apart and it’s a good space. I can tell Clara will be a great big sister!
Rachel B. says
Congratulations! I hope you have the most boring, uneventful, textbook pregnancy ever. :)
Stacy says
Congrats! So happy for you! As a sidenote…I am shocked to read previous comments where people were really nasty about you Photoshopping your belly prior to announcing this. Your pregnancy is personal and you have every right to do a little Photoshop work to keep it private. People love you guys because you are so personable and share so much of your lives, but you don’t have to share everything. Some things are sacred. It makes me sad that people can be so hateful and I hope you haven’t been too upset by the negativity– you don’t deserve it.
Congrats again on your happy happy news! Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do in the nursery :)

Congratulations!

Yay you guys! So happy. It’s weird, a couple weeks ago a post on your main blog had the pregnant bellies post as the first suggested “you might also like” post, and I was wondering if I had missed something! XO, congrats, and I hope very much that Sherrie is feeling better soon.

I totally just like started celebrating in the middle of a quiet computer lab, lol! Fortunately, I refrained from cheering, but I did clap and giggle to myself! I’m so excited to see your family transform!! Thank you for bringing us on this adventure with you, and I really hope everything goes much more swimmingly this time around!!
Karen says
Yay!!!!!!! Praying for all of you for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy mom and baby.
Sarah O says
Congrats! I am due April 4th with our first. I am super excited that I will get to follow your journey while i experience mine :) I always liked your minimalist approach to baby stuff and post. I hope that you continue to do that this time around with what you will/won’t be buying for the new baby. Best of luck!
Kara says
I’m joining the bandwagon here — YAY! Congratulations!!!!
I feel honored that you chose to share your news with us. It’s completely your own business and choice to do so, and its a privilege for us to now know! You are the classiest people I know, and I’m very excited for you guys! Don’t let the negative people get to you, there’s far more positive people out here rooting for you. The “bean” shirts are all adorable, what an ingeniously cute way to break the news!
Nina says
Congrats!!!! Shut the front door!!! So happy for ya’ll – you have my prayers for a safe and healthy delivery for mom and baby and the Petersik family of 4!!!
Chelsea says
Oh my gosh! Congratulations and best wishes to all of you! I don’t know if his has been asked yet, as reading through 33 pages of comments would take forever, but how scared are you of the same thing happening this time, as did with Clara’s birth? I ask because I didn’t have the best birth experience with my son’s birth (loooong labor, he got stuck, emergency c-section, infection in me and possibly baby boy), and while I expected something like that (runs in the family), my husband didn’t and he is so scared to try to have another. Second time around you’ll have a scheduled c-section right? Does that make less of a risk for you?
Caroline says
Congrats!!!!! I’m feeling a little pathetic b/c I just got teary with the news and I’ve never met you.

Congrats! Praying for a healthy and safe pregnancy!

Very excited for your family.
I never comment on your site. But after reading through the comments about photoshopping your bump I had to write my support for both of you, your family, and this blog. I had no idea you were facing such awful comments from strangers. It is appalling. Hang in there and know that there are many more of us that support you in silence than there are people speaking up and posting malicious comments.
Katie says
I LOVE that pic of Clara. Too cute! You can tell from her face that she is super excited. I think one of the best parts of having our second child was our first child’s reaction and the pure joy on her face the first time she got to meet the new baby. The first thing she said was, “my baby smells like fruit snacks!” (fruit snacks are held in very high esteem in our house). I wish we would have filmed it now, but we did get some great pictures. I will never forget those first moments with my two girls. You are going to have a blast (for the most part).
Sara says
Holy cow! What a pleasant surprise this morning! So excited and happy for you guys! We are expecting our first this December and your blog has been a go-to for tips and advice. In fact, I typically stop researching a product if the Petersiks give their thumbs up on it. Thank you for all your informative and instructional posts for this new mom! And congratulations to the whole Petersik crew!
P.S. That first picture of Clara is way too cute. The turned foot, the beaming smile, the head tilt. Make it stop.

Congrats! Now I think I know why you asked who was currently pregnant during your info-graphic questions! I’m part of that 4%- due March 3 with our first child. I too am seeing a specialist OB. One good thing about it is all the ultrasounds that are done. :). I love seeing my little one and know he is okay! Best of luck.

As always, the grace with which you both have handled all the inquiries and speculation is admirable. Clara and Baby Bean #2 are blessed to have such wonderful parents.

Congratulations! I am so happy for all of you. I hope that this will be a wonderful pregnancy. Having experienced an extremely difficult first delivery myself, I know there is probably some anxiety going on as well, so prayers for an exceptionally “normal” delivery when April comes, too! First CONGRATULATIONS! What a wonderful blessing. Best wishes for a happy, healthy, and safe pregnancy.
And may I just say shame on all the at-home-armchair-obstetricians. There is NEVER a polite way to ask someone what the contents of their internal organs are. If they want you to know they will tell you.
Diana says
Dear John and Sherry,
So happy for you!! Just said a prayer for an easy pregnancy and a smooth delivery! Clara will be the best big sister ever!! Thank you for sharing with us…. congratulations!!!!!

Congratulations. As someone who waited 4.5 years to do it a second time, it is so worth it. Hope the pregnancy and delivery go well. I had my second one at home, unintentionally. They called me squaw.

Ahh! So happy for you! Clara will be an awesome big sister :D
I’m sure someone else in the bazillion comments left has said this but I’ll say it too – morning sickness is a really good sign. When I was pregnant I lost almost 10 pounds my first trimester from morning sickness. But morning sickness usually means your body is making all the hormones that it should and that the baby is thriving.
Congrats & prayers to you!!
Wendy R says
PS – Yay for a few months of no one leaving comments asking if your pregnant, Sherry. Some people can be so rude, but you are always so gracious.
Nefi says
As a reader who is always expecting your next post yet a first commenter, i always have a feeling for this couple of weeks that you guys are expecting. Perhaps its the pregnancy syndrome in me as well (due next January).., thought it make me feels like a crazy stalker since you’re strangers for me..hehehehe… And thank you for all the baby posts, it provides me with great inputs on what i need for my first child.
Congratulation guys!!!!!wishing you a safe and joyful pregnancy…the sickness will end in my case just when i reach my 3,5 months :(.
Leslie says
Congratulations!!!! My sons birth ended up in an emergency c section. While mine wasn’t quite as emergency as yours our son was born with special needs. He spent 19 days in the NICU with one surgery and at least two more to go. I was just talking to a group of moms that I don’t know how I could have another because I don’t know how to get past all that has happened. You guys give me hope. Thank you for being so open.
YoungHouseLove says
Aw thanks so much Leslie! All the best with everything!
