We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

Congratulations! The little baked bean is lucky to have such a great set of parents, a big sister AND a big brother (can’t forget Burger!). I hope the next six months treats you well!

Hi Youngsters!
You guys have to be so excited/ maybe a little nervous! I think you guys are very brave for letting us in on the news! Hopefully there aren’t any haters but you guys always handle them like g’s.
My mom had a scary birth for her first one and decided to do a program called Hypnobabies for her second one and the baby popped out in 15 minutes! Thought that might be of interest!
Love, Virginia
Katie D. says
YAYYYYYYY!!!!! I am so thrilled for you!!!! (Can’t believe its really true, I think many of us have been anxiously awaiting this news for a while now :) CONGRATS!
Hannah says
Yay! So happy for you!
Johanna says
Oh my WORD, congratulations you guys!!!!!!! I started reading the blog when Clara was a tiny tot, and now you are giving her a best friend for life, how AWESOME :) I have 2 questions for fridays post… Sherry, what prompted you to take a test? Morning sickness, food aversions, exhaustion? Also, how did you tell John the news?
Amanda says
Hooray! Congratulations! Praying for continued health for mama and baby! What a year…new book, new house, new baby! Thanks for sharing the great news!!!!
Tara G. says
No questions- I’ve had three. :) But I offer a big CONGRATS and prayers for a safe mama and baby!
Alexis says
YESSSSSS!!!!!! I’M SO EXCITED FOR YOUR FAMILY! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
em says
Yay! Congratulations! And I hope it’s not too obnoxious to say I totally knew it- NOT on the basis of Sherry’s belly which I can’t believe people are gross enough to talk about. But, I have noticed an absence of Sherry photos lately and when you bought the house you mentioned that you did not anticipate needing more room until the summer! Anyway, as the mom of a 6 year old and 3 year old, I will tell you that it is awesome and hard and lots of fun. My daughter was about Clara’s age when my son was born, and as soon as he starting smiling, they became best friends. I bet Clara will be a great big sister too.
Lauriane says
Congratulations!! I’m so happy for you guys!!! (Never been that happy for complete strangers haha)
I’m so sorry you had (have) to deal with the stupidity of some overly unsensitive readers, I can’t understand why they don’t respect you and your privacy, especially after you’ve made it so gracefully clear that you wanted to be left alone… *sigh*
Anyway, I wish you a safe and enjoyable pregnancy, and easy delivery! :)
PS: My question for friday: would Clara prefer a baby brother or sister? :)
Lauriane says
Oouh other question: did Sherry have Burger (or Clara??) deliver the happy news to John again? That was such a cute idea :)
And how did you announce it to Clara?
Thank you for sharing with us!!
Kristine says
Congrats, nothing is more exciting than expecting a baby! I am due with baby #2 in May and couldn’t be more excited as we have struggled with infertility for over a year, but finally will have another miracle baby :)
My question is how will you be preparing Clara for a baby and having to share her time with you.
Thanks and congrats again!
Anna says
yaaayyyaayyy!! congratulations!
Betsy says
YAY!! Congratulations. I’ll keep you in my thoughts!

Fries! Fries has my vote for the Crazy Celebrity Baby Name Game. Clara, Burger and Fries Petersik. :-)
Amazing news guys. Wishing you all a peaceful and healthy pregnancy and a drama free delivery.
Thanks for sharing you life and homes with us. I would never have jumped on the DIY bandwagon if it wasn’t for your blog. Your blog has transformed my home. Don’t let the trolls get to you. Many more of us than them.

Congratulations! You’re such wonderful parents–the new little bean is definitely a lucky one. :)
But I’m not going to lie when I saw last week that one of your Blogiversery topics was “A possum in the basement,” my initial thought was that it was the new “bun in the oven.” Clearly, I forgot you had an ACTUAL possum in your ACTUAL basement. But then the seed was planted and for a week I’ve been wondering when the next mini-$herdogg or Johnizzle might come about.
I’m so glad that you were able to tell the world on YOUR TIME. You should never have to answer to us about such person things!
YoungHouseLove says
Bahahahah! The title of this post should have been The Possum In My Basement (wink wink). Oh my gosh, I cant stop laughing!

Congrats! You’re like the fourth couple in the last two weeks I know who announced a pregnancy…and all the little ones are due in close succession! And yeah, I know I don’t “know” you known you, but I’m super happy for you!
I’m curious, how did you tell Clara? Did you have to tell your families first, then tell Clara? Or did you tell her before everyone else and make her pinky swear not to tell anyone else?
angela says

So I already commented but just realized something… Sherry, you and Katie bowers are preggo together! How fun!!!! My sis and I were preggo together, and our babys were born 12 days apart. It has been SO fun going through everything together, from pregnancy to toddlerhood…. and of course you both already have kids, but how fun to be pregnant the same time as your BFF!.It’s so much better when you have someone who TRULY understands your hormones and crazy-pregnant-lady symptoms and cravings :) so, how far apart are your due dates?

You guys are great! I really started to cry tears of joy for you guys! I know pregnancy is a very personal journey that must be shared when you start to show. However when you share your news should be your choice. You don’t deserve any horrible treatment just because you blog professionally! Humans make so angry sometimes with the hatred and meanness.
Melissa Maris says
Yay! Congratulations! So excited for you guys to have a new house and a new bean to fill it! :)
Mayde says
Congratulations! I think the best part of this announcement is that you and Katie Bower are pregnant at the same time! I’ve enjoyed following her updates, and now I look forward to following yours, too.

Soooooo happy for you guys!!!! I can’t WAIT to hear more about baby bean #2. I’m due in March (with twins) so it will be fun to follow along with the ongoings of baby bean #2. Now that you have your family blog, will you do weekly bump updates there?
Whitney says
Congrats!!! My questions are, was the baby the “secret project” listed in the blogiversary post? Also do you plan to find out the sex of the baby?
So happy for you!!
PS I saw that someone commented on you feeding Clara the chicken squares and how they were unhealthy- I literally wanted to pull my hair out– the veggies on your plate are way more than most families eat so bravo, enjoy every once in while!!!
Rachel says
Congratulations. My first pregnancy was incredibly terrifying for different reasons than yours, but I understand the fear of a second and high risk pregnancy. I’m not there yet, but it made my day to read your news. Wishing you a healthy journey.
