We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.
Ellen says
Congratulations!

Here’s a personal question I have no business asking: Do you think this is a bean that came with you in the move to H3? :)
You are just the cutest family – so happy for you.
MM says
Congratulations Sherry John and soon-to-be big sister Clara! I don’t comment often though I read your blog everyday. But I wanted to share that I too am expecting our 2nd in Jan. 2014. I was actually browsing your site the other day looking for where you found the ‘big brother’ and ‘little sister’ shirts for Burger and Clara. Well hope that you feel better with all the morning sickness Sherry and everything continues to go well for the new baby bean.
GreekWife says
So nice to hear this news!
I had a hunch because it seemed like John was posting a lot more, maybe I made that up though.
I just had my second baby (despite reaching all other life milestones a year after you guys). My husband delivered him at home (oops!)
http://greekwife.blogspot.com/2013/09/aint-nobody-got-time-for-that.html
I hope this pregnancy and delivery is smooth sailing. I love watching our little girl as a big sister :)
Mara says
Congratulations!! Did Sherry and Katie drink from the same bottle of water? How exciting for both of you to be pregnant at the same time. I’m curious how far apart from each other you are?
Kim says
I love happy news like this! Congratulations! Especially after the first time I hope it’s smooth sailing for you both!
Erin says
Yayyyy!!! Congratulations guys! Sending lots of prayers and happy thoughts for a safe ‘n healthy pregnancy/delivery/baby. Thank you for sharing your special news with the world-wide interweb :)
Nicole says
Yay, congratulations! Such exciting news. :-)
I just wanted to add that I’m a new reader but I love everything you have done in your home/s. :) You are such a lovely, creative family and yours is one of my favorite blogs! :-D
Rachelle M. says
Just wanted to say congratulations! I also had a feeling that an announcement might be coming sometime in these last few months, and I’m glad you’ve made it to the “safe” point and are able to share.
I’m also potentially due in April: In August I was surprised to learn I was pregnant for the second time (my first is now 18 months), but when we went for our first appointment in September, we were doubly shocked to find out that it was spontaneous twins! Ack! So many things to consider and changes to make in our small home to accommodate two more babies.
Looking forward to reading your posts about preparing for the new addition, and wishing you a pleasantly uneventful pregnancy and childbirth!
Jill says
CONGRATS! So happy for you guys!
Evelina says
Oh I didn’t even remember to ask a question. uuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmm. Oh gosh I want to respect your privacy and not ask anything too personal. I know what special family time this is! Oh! How about, how fun was it for you two to be in the regularly-Clara’s photoshoot! I bet you needed a little bit more fabric hehe! Congrats again!! So excited!!
N Shirley says
Congratulations! I pray you will have a happy, healthy, pregnancy and delivery! No standing on chairs!
Naomi W. says
So happy for your new addition! May God give you peace as you go through this pregnancy. I know from my own experience how hard a pregnancy is when you have had difficulties in the past.
Cheryl says
Yahoooooo! Clara will be the most wonderful big sister!
I can’t wait for the nursery posts.
But I am also aware how potentially terrifying it is to have your pregnancy hanging out there. I had a hard time announcing my pregnancy on Facebook (shared with actual friends and no strangers) because when it’s other people you can simply think everything will be fine but when it’s YOU, suddenly anything is possible.
Imagine the prayers and good juju of millions of readers going toward that famous uterus of yours and sending your precious new bean strength, power and health.
Take care of yourself, $herdog, and enjoy this wonderful time. I hope the Internet trolls don’t ruin anything for you guys.
LARY@Inspiration Nook says
YAY!!! Congrats! So excited for you guys.

I knew it. (I am a bit psychic at times!) Congratulations to the whole family. I’m anxious to follow along with this pregnancy just as before!

CONGRATULATIONS PETERSIKS!!!! I’m so excited, happy, and thrilled for you! I pray that the rest of your pregnancy and beyond is smooth sailing! What an incredible blessing. Congratulations, Parents of Two!

PS. If Baby #2 comes in late April, then hello joint-birthday parties! I’m hosting one this weekend for Evie and Liam, and for our out-of-town family and friends, it’s so much easier and more convenient to celebrate a twofer! So, yay and I’m crossing fingers for y’all!
Meaghan says
Congratulation! I have a bean due in April as well (number 5 though) and its been a loooong first trimester, so I completely sympathize with your morning sickness woes!
Erin says
P.s…. I love the bean burrito thing for John. My best friend and I always joke about “burrito babies” from the bulge we get after eating too much m
Delicious Mexican food! Glad someone else appreciates the correlation. Ole!

Congratulations to your family! Thanks for sharing this with us!
Elsa says
Yay, that’s so exciting! I just sent a text to my husband, who I’m pretty sure will not be nearly as excited as I am. I also have to say how disgusted I am at reading some of the awful and harassing comments from your day in the life post. All I can think is that those are people who are so unhappy in their own lives. I love the detail you all share with anything you post, but do you think those few awful comments will affect how you share your pregnancy and birth stories?
YoungHouseLove says
Aw thanks Elsa! I don’t think they’ll affect how we share our stories, other than reminding us that we just have to share things on our own time. I wasn’t ready to share Clara’s birth story until almost a year later, but when I was ready, and I did, it was amazing. I felt so much more at peace after hearing from others with similar situations. That post was a blessing to me in so many ways. So we have learned firsthand that sharing things is a gift, and we’re honored to have so many amazingly supportive readers lifting us up, even when things don’t go as planned.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Wishing Sherry a nice boring pregnancy and nice safe delivery. Clara is gonna make such a great big sis!

Best wishes for a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery!!

Congrats to your sweet little family! So happy for you! I too missed all the crazy comments from your other post, but now that I’ve read them I just want to tell you I really respect your ability to share so much of your life when people are judging (with jealousy no doubt) your every move! The “unhealthy recipe” comment made me just as crazy as the “photoshopped picture” comments. People reeeeeaaaalllly need to get a life! I’m sure there are things out of order in their own lives so they should turn their attention to those things instead! And at the very least, people like “secret baby” should grow some balls and put her name out there! Haha. Anyway, congrats and don’t let the jealous uglies out there get to you! So happy for you!
Lulu says
Congrats Petersiks! Now please enjoy yourself and ignore the wackos. I would barely ask my own sister some of these questions. And good-on-ya to both of you for your strong replies to previous inquiries (you classy, lovely people). I often refrain from commenting just so you have less to read and respond to, but wanted to make sure you know that 98% of us think the “Inquisition” is waaaaay out of line and if you want to let off a bit of steam with say – the delete button – we wouldn’t mind a bit.
Sarah says
Congrats! What a lucky kiddo to have you as parents and Clara as a big sister :-)
Athena says
Congratulations! We’re happy for you guys (not the least so that everyone can now stop asking you if you’re pregnant again)! ;) So sorry that you’re sick, Sherry. I hope it passes now that you’re headed into the middle of the pregnancy. You are such a brave and beautiful mama. Congrats again.
Sarah says
Congratulations!! So happy for you all! (Am now enjoying the clue from yesterday’s post title.) Wishing you an easy pregnancy!
Sarah says
Congrats! And where did you get that fabric? Do you know the name of the pattern? It’s so cute!
Lauren says
Congrats!!
So funny, another blogger I follow just announced her pregnancy and is due the same time :)
Jessica says
1. Congratulations on the new baby.
2. I just went over and skimmed some of the comments people left about the photoshopping incident. People are WACKO!
Do I enjoy reading your blog? Yes. If I saw you in Target would I run up, rub your belly, and ask you to name the baby after me? No
Just because you share your life people do not own you. Seriously, wackos!
Carrie says
Congratulations! I also am expecting and due in April — my first.
Heather says
There’s a lot of comments, so I’ll ask (maybe for the 100th time) is this the secret side project that you guys have been working on? Or is that still under wraps?
Congrats to your family!!!
Heather says
Ditto! I can’t wait to find out what that secret project is!
Corbett Nelson says
WAHOOOOO! Congratulations Petersik family of four! My husband & I are pregnant with our first, a little girl, due early February, so seeing another pregnant mama is such an exciting thing right now! We also bought our first home, a fixer upper, a month before we found out we were pregnant! Needless to say, I’ll be even MORE excited to read your posts! Any chance you will be doing some pregnancy/baby proofing posts and/or giveaways? I would be all over those! Congrats again!
Felicity @ Our Little Beehive says
Congratulations! It’s such wonderful news!
Suzi says
YEAH – I was suspicious after not hearing any blatant denials for a while. :) Soo excited for all 3 of you! We’re expecting our (VERY long awaiting!) first baby on Valentine’s Day so it will be fun to hear how you’re doing on the same journey. Congrats again!!!
Amanda says
Ah congratulations John and Sherry!!! I’ve been wondering if you’re planning to grow the family, what with your new larger home and all. Best wished for a SAFE and easy pregnancy, you are in my thoughts Sherry. :)
Deanna says
Congratulations, Clara! You’re going to be an AWESOME big sister! (Your parents are gonna be pretty swell, too.) Can’t wait to watch that nursery come together!
Your great news put a smile on my face! Thanks for sharing (when the time was *just* right)!
Melissa says
Congratulations all of you! And thank you for sharing this (and so much else) with us.

I just discovered your blog this year and I’m now reading your book and working my way back through old posts (I think I’m in spring 2012 right now). Although I’m on the Forums, I haven’t commented yet. I guess I was waiting for a good comment to make and this is it: Congratulations on your little bean! Your family is adorable and I so look forward to watching it grow from afar (Ottawa, Canada to be precise!). I also want to say “migwech” (thank you in my language – I’m Native!) for sharing all of your adventures. My partner and I have been looking at real estate for 4 years, but something about following your blog and your experiences as homeowners has helped us make the leap. We move into our first home on October 18!
Lindsey S says
Congrats! Very exciting! Don’t let anyone get you down about anything you guys do! I saw your post about people giving you grief about posting Claras potty training stuff, and people are absurd! My mom STILL tells my potty training story (I’m 29) (I tried to use a display toilet at the hardware store), its all in fun and EVERYONE ON THE PLANET does it. You guys are awesome, and no one can tell you otherwise!
Cant wait to follow along with your growing bump! Congrats again!!
Luanne says
Please tell us how you told Clara! :)
Lots of love, hugs and well wishes for you!
Katy says
Congratulations! Will this baby be called “bean” too or will he/she get their own nickname?
Luanne says
just realized I said hugs. weird from someone you don’t know. So, virtual high five! :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congratulations to the four of you :)

Oh I am so excited! Being a #1 fan of Young House Love(aren’t we all?!) I tend to obsess( Imnotcrazy!) about whatever you guys are up to at the moment. So shoot, now I have to get pregnant.
And to all you jerks who have boundary issues, may you be afflicted with an itch and have no nails to scratch it!
Maggie says
It’s weird to be so happy for people I don’t even know, but I really, really am! I hope the pregnancy goes smoothly and I can’t wait to meet the newest Petersik!
PS-While there are a few haters out there remember that most of us are so happy you chose to share this wonderful news with us at all! Your blog is such a source of inspiration, knowledge and laughter—keep it up!
Mary Saou says
Whoo-hoo!!!! Oh man, I am so pumped for y’all! Would love to hear how you told John, and if this pregnancy is feeling different from the last one so far. A spring baby! So fun!! Hope you can take it easy, $herdog– it’s hard work, cooking up a person! (And you look GREAT!)
