We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

First of all, CONGRATS!
Re: Photoshop drama. Have you considered deleting comments? Perhaps making it a policy to delete comments that venture into personal territory? Based on the years of speculation and your consistent stance on what you are willing to share it is impressive that you keep it cool through all of this.
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Crystal! We’ve thought about not approving those stir-the-pot comments since they’re obviously just there to rile people up, but I think in the end we don’t want people to think that we only let happy comments full of love and praise through, so it’s nice to just let everything pop up. People definitely have some strong opinions about the choices we make, but at the end of the day it’s our house and our life, so we just have to do what works for us and everyone else can have their opinions. Just because they get approved doesn’t mean we can’t agree to disagree!
Update: After hearing this sentiment from so many of you guys today (both via comments and emails) we chatted over dinner and agree that you all have a good point. There’s definitely a difference between welcoming respectful and constructive disagreement and comments that are left solely to provoke others, be malicious, or distract from the purpose of this site. We’d never want people who come here for fun and encouragement (it’s only decorating!) to feel let down by any unnecessary drama, so we’re updating our comment policy. Thanks for your feedback!

But, but, but… there is a difference between disagreeing about rug choices and paint colors, critiquing Photoshopping skills, etc., and feeding trolls. A “we’re not gonna feed the trolls” policy would be reasonable, particularly for your family’s safety and sanity (like comments that would lead a stranger to figuring out your neighborhood/address – it is common courtesy to keep that kind of a thing to yourself).
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Kat! I think you’re right. There definitely has to be a limit when something is dangerous or just plain distracting to the whole purpose of this blog. Something to think about for sure!

Hannah says
That’s great you’re going to finally do something about the trolls, but it sounds like you are only going to moderate those comments directed at you. What about the readers who get absolutely pulverised by your most zealous fans when they (usually nicely) express their differing opinion/thought on something you’ve blogged about? Obviously you like your fans coming to your ‘rescue’, as evidenced by the fact you never/rarely ask them to stop, but the hate and vitriol they spout on your behalf can be alarming.
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Hannah! This new policy is definitely not just to protect us – any comments that attack anyone else will be removed. All comments need to be constructive and respectful, whether they’re directed at us or at another commenter. There’s no reason for anyone to get mean over here, whether they’re defending us or disagreeing with us. Project Get Along is on. Where’s my gym teacher whistle?

Congratulations! Hope things continue to go smoothly…and that Baby is very healthy (and adorable–though that’s a given)! So happy for you guys!
Jeanna says
Ok, a couple of things.
1. I’m so sorry you have to deal with such mean-spirited people. Especially about something that should be filled with only joy.
2. You all are the epitome of grace under fire.
3. Having suffered through a period of infertility after having my first daughter, and the large age gap between her and my son, I can only imagine some of the comments ya’ll have had to endure. So, so sorry.
4. Our little family will keep yours in our prayers. Best wishes for the smoothest delivery possible, and a HEALTHY little bean or bean-ette.
5. If I had a question it would be, what would you want us to know about your journey to the place you’re at now. What about your story could lend peace to another mother who may now be in the shoes you were in 6 months ago, a year ago. And what have you learned?
Monica says
I would love to see #5 answered on Friday! I couldn’t have phrased it better myself. My pregnancy/delivery/recovery all had complications. While I’d love to have another baby at some point, right now the thought is still mildly terrifying.
Sarah says
Congratulations you guys! So excited for y’all! I’m pregnant with my first and due in March! Hopefully looking forward to some nursery inspiration in the near future!! Any ideas for the nursery so far?
Andrea says
Mazel tov you three! As the Yiddish wedding toast goes, may you go from strength to strength.
Appalled by the comment thread noted above. Good for you for shrugging it off (something I know from experience is difficult to do while pregnant — hormonally charged!). Don’t let the decor turkeys get you down.

Woohoo! More Bower-Petersik babyfest 2.0!

I don’t know why but I remember reading a post a couple weeks ago and wondering if you guys were cooking up #2. So happy for you guys!!!! Hoping that these thousands of positive thoughts keep that little bean safe and you have a nice, quiet, normal pregnancy and birth experience.
Justine says
Woohoo! Congratulations! Hope everything goes smoothly and you both are healthy and happy! So adorable you will have another kid close in age to another Bower kid :)

Gahhhhhhh! So excited for you and the whole family!!! I’m actually due in April as well, so it will be fun to follow along with your experience!! Hopefully that’s not creepy to say. I can’t wait to see what the new nursery will be like!
amyks says
Congratulations and much love to you and the expanding family. It is so exciting and as a woman who also experienced 3 high risk pregnancies, I don’t blame you a bit for keeping it private as long as you could. I am sorry that people feel the need to be so rude to you. It just stinks and there is no reason for that. Way to hold your head up high!
Sara says
YAY! Congratulations!
I’m expecting and due at the end of April as well! You should know that I’m going to consider us preggo sisters even though we’ve only met once at a book signing :)
YAY babies!
Diana P. says
Congratulations, Petersiks! Praying for a safe and healthy pregnancy for you guys!
Do you think you will cloth diaper this one too? Do you have any new products (diapering or otherwise) that you are exited to try with a new bean?
Jana says
Wow, congratulations. I am like addicted to your blog and news like this always make my day a lot brighter :)
I am really happy for you guys!
Samantha says
Yay!!! So happy for you! I can’t wait to see what you do for the nursery and all the great DIY projects! (Since that’s technically what this is all about). I do enjoy your personal posts bc it’s always nice to relate but I look at you mainly for your DIY and home decorating. Some other people need to get a job-who has time to look into your photoshop skills? And typos! Sorry for my vent-but I am happy for you and hope you are mostly enjoying this journey!
Netty says
YEA!!!!!! I’m SO SOSOSOSOSOSO excited for you! and you and Bower get to be prego again around the same time! SO FUN! I hope you all have a blast and that the sickness is gone and that things are smooth sailing from here on out! Labor will be totally different this time than that last scary one! :)
A. says
Sincerely happy for you guys, and wishing you a healthy, worry-free pregnancy and delivery.
Will you be doing a weekly photo project with this baby like the one you did with Clara?

Congrats you guys! Y’all have over 2000 comments so I’m sure this has been asked 250 times so I apologize for repeating, but did you guys have a timeline, like, “we’ll TTC in Summer 2013” for a while now or were you just leaving it up to fate? Regardless, so happy for you guys!
Janice says
Huge congratulations!!!!! You are obviously loving and smart parents, and your new baby will be as lucky as sweet Clara is to have you two as his/her parents.
I just read that horrible photoshop comment thread, and want to applaud you for your ability to take the high road in the face of such nasty attacking comments. You guys rock! And high five rattles to you for this lovely little corner of the Internet.
Sara says
Does Clara want a little brother or sister?
Does being high risk mean Sherry will have to have a c-section or is it too early to tell?
Are you finding out the sex?
SO MANY QUESTIONS!

Congratulations! And thank you for sharing this news with us all!

Yaaaaaayyy!!!!!! Congrats you guys, what a special and exciting time. Here’s to a healthy and enjoyable pregnancy :)
The first thing that caught my eye in the top line of Monday’s post was “3.9 months” and for 3 seconds I thought (knew?) you guys were expecting. Super excited it’s true!
Nikki W. says
And… I’m getting a boy vibe.
Amy says
Congrats Sherry! I’m due in April too,! I’ve been through some tough all day sickness as well. Good luck!

Congratulations! How exciting that you and Katie B are pregnant at the same time (again?)! Did someone already mention that or am I the first one to notice? :)
Good luck and I hope all goes well!!
Jill says
Congrats times a million to you! I am also due in April with baby #2 and I feel your pain about the all-day sickness. I hope things get better for Sherry soon. Congrats again!!

Question for you to answer on Friday. I’m pregnant too and have no idea what is safe and not safe when it comes to painting/staining/gluing/ etc for the nursery. Do you think you will show options on your blog of materials that can safely be used by a pregnant woman when decorating something? For example, I have a dresser I really want to paint but don’t know if there is a safe paint I can use or if I just have to put it on my husbands to do list. Thanks and congrats. So excited to see your progress in this pregnancy on the blog.I’m only 2 months ahead of you in my pregnancy and this is my first.
Amanda Lowe says
Oh my gosh! I just read through those comments. People are so rude! You could get pregnant, have the baby and NEVER SHARE that part of your life and it is nobody’s friggin’ business. It makes me angry! (So I can’t imagine how you felt). My husband and I have an anonymous blog for our family (where most of our family doesn’t even know the web address) and we’ve kept it anonymous for a reason. There is NO NEED for ANYONE to be so intrusive! But putting that aside, I am so happy for all four of you (yes, even Burger)! Babies are a joy. My husband and I have been trying for a couple years to get pregnant so we can just have ONE MORE baby and we’re having a time of it, so I’m ecstatic for you all! Please have a happy and healthy pregnancy– and share only what YOU feel comfortable with. It’s your life, and you deserve some privacy. And photoshopped or not, congrats on your barely-there-belly. :)
Emily Siler says
OMG this is so exciting. I had a hunch that this might be the case when I saw a picture of Sherry painting a couple weeks ago. Was this little bean planned or more of a surprise?! Either way Congrats
Jess says
Congrats, you guys!! Thanks for sharing the exciting news. Your new home will be a perfect (and beautiful) place for your family to grow. :)
Lindsey says
Congrats and many blessings to your growing family!! What a wonderful time for you all. Prayers for a healthy baby. Thank you for sharing your wonderful news with your happy readers!
Kristina says
I recently was reading some comments on your “Day in the life of” post and was completely infuriated by the invasion of privacy you were experiencing in regards to possibly photoshopping your belly. I honestly don’t know how the two of you are able to keep your cool with some of these comments! Kudos to you and many many congratulations on the newest little bean!
Maddie says
CONGRATS! I wish you a wonderful and healthy pregnancy!
I know I’m not the first to say it, but I love the Bowersik preggersness of this. So fun! :)
And my Gramma says the worst morning sickness comes from boys. She says they “like to cause a fuss, right from the start”! Hope you feel better soon!
Wendi says
Congratulations! So very excited for you! We are on the verge of bringing home our second son through adoption. Our son is so excited to be a big brother as I’m sure Clara is to be a big sister. Wishing you all the best!
lu mae ro says
Congrats to you guys!!!! How exciting for Clara to be a big sister!
Thank you for sharing with us. I admire your strength and wish you a healthy and safe pregnancy.
Ashleigh P says
YAY!!!!! Congratulations!!! Confession: a friend & I may have been busted for reading the blog at work this morning. Let’s just say screaming & dancing ensued. Kinda funny being so excited for “strangers” but we are none the less!! Can’t wait to hear how you guys spilled the beans!! And PS – the haters can just go somewhere, we’ve got nothing but love for you guys here!!!
Karen says
Congratulations! I’m so excited for you!
That fabric in the pictures is gorgeous – you should find a way to incorporate it into your house (maybe the baby’s nursery…)
Liane says
So excited for you guys!! And I hope you have a safe, happy, and healthy pregnancy. :) Can’t wait to see some nursery planning!! Will you find out the gender?
Also in the TMI question category, so feel free not to answer, but Sherry will you have a scheduled c-section this time around due to the previous complications? That’s the scenario we’re looking at due to some things that happened when we had our first (2.5 years ago). Now that we’re trying for #2, we’ll be planning a scheduled c/s as well. But whatever the plan- wishing you the best! :)
Lauren says
Just joining the throngs to say I am SO SO happy for your family!!!! Clara is going to be the BEST big sister ever!!!! I can’t wait to follow your adventures as your family expands… oh yeah, and to see all the hip and cool nursery decorating posts!!! :D Congrats again!
Ashlee says
Congrats!
Is this why the blog has become more lifestyle & less diy? Is that your blog/business perpetuation plan?
