We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.
Emily Fridenmaker says
Oh my goodness, congratulations John, Sherry, Clara, and Burger!
I just love all of you guys, and reading this made me so happy!
I’ll be praying for a safe and healthy pregnancy, delivery, baby and Mama!
SO excited for you all! =D
jill says
Yay for four! Wait—five! Almost forgot Burger. Wildly excited for your all and wishing you much health and happiness!
Khiz says
Many happy congratulations to your family! I’m ECSTATIC to hear the good news and hope that the pregnancy goes well for both and that you have a healthy infant :)
Love how this pregnancy corresponds with the Bowers; meant to be! Maybe this time it’s a boy and they are having a girl?! lol
Lastly, I am a medical student so am interested in the clinical aspect. Here’s my question: Because this is a high risk pregnancy, what will you be doing different in order to maintain the health of the mother and child? Has the doctor mentioned certain exercises (other than Kegel), food, medications or just for you, Sherry, to relax more often (spa/massage)?
Megan Elizabeth says
YAY! SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! Congratulations!
Can I also say that I read the day in the life post and had no idea you had photoshopped a thing (too busy looking at the gorgeous light fixture). Can we see some real bump pictures soon?!?!?!?! :):)
Christi says
Congratulations!! I look forward to seeing how your decorate the nursery. Have you looked into using the hypnobabies program for both at all? It focuses on using deep relaxation and have a fear clearing tract that might be extremely beneficial to you given your last birth experience.
YoungHouseLove says
A bunch of people have recommended that so I’ll have to look into it! Thanks everyone for the sweet wishes and the suggestions!

As a fellow Prego (our second bun is due in March) I definitely sympathize with the morning/all-day sickness. Here’s hoping that’s all done, and you have an easy breezy and SAFE rest of your pregnancy. Congratulations to Team Petersik!!!!!!
Sheena says
Congratulations from the Uk. This is lovely news and I am just so sorry that you have had to deal with some horrid comments. I hope you have a happy, safe and healthy pregnancy.
Lauren says
Congratulations!!! As I was scrolling down to leave my comment, I noticed other comments… Which led me back to your blogiversary page. I cannot get over that people looked hard enough and accused you of photoshopping your belly. So, so crazy to me! So sorry you guys have to deal with that constantly.
On a happier note, I am so stinkin’ excited for you guys! I guess my nosey question would be- did you tell Katie B about your pregnancy when she told you about hers? My husband and I always go back and forth… We think we’ll be so excited that we’ll want to tell our parents and best friends immediately… But then part of us wants to wait until the “safe zone” moment. Totally understand if that’s too private to share :) congrats again!

Hello, one of your in the minority 50+ followers here (I love how you break it down!), wishing you congratulations on the news and prayers for a safe and healthy delivery! Awesome news!

Awww Congrats on the new baby!!! I absolutely love your blog and have been following for the past 4 years or so. I think it’s a shame that people can be so critical and rude re: the Photoshop picture. What’s with some people!?!?! Kudos to you for keeping your head up high, I may have just about went bezerk on them (Eminem style).
I’m wishing you all the best for a safe, healthy pregnancy; it takes a lot to include your readers in your personal life. So thank you! Can’t wait to see your new addition :)
Tricia says
Congratulations!!! Sorry that some people will not let up on your state of the uterus and photoshopped pictures. I am just so excited the two best friends get to share this experience together. And I can’t wait for you and Katie Bower to show all the great nursery ideas!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Such amazing news, a baby is always an exciting adventure. Praying for you all, for a safe delivery and uneventful pregnancy. Thank you so much for letting us in your lives and home. :) God Bless!

Congratulations!!
You’ve made several references to your new house as a “forever home.” How did it play into your timing of Bean #2? Did you decide that since you had the new house, you were ready? Or did you dive into the new house because you were already planning? Or did they have nothing to do with each other?
Juliane at Modern Mural says
Congratulations! I hope that you have a safe next few months! Also, adorable pictures!
Lisa says
Yay!! I’m so happy for you! Congratulations!
I hope everything goes smoothly from here on out

CONGRATS, CONGRATS, CONGRATS!! Is that the “secret project” that you have been working on? My birthday is April 18th, I think that that would be a good day for you to welcome a new little bean! Whenever it happens, I’m wishing you an uneventful delivery!
Amanda says
Congrats! What happy news!! My questions: 1) Do you want to know the sex of the baby? 2) How does knowing/not knowing impact any decisions that you might make in the nursery?
Rosemarie says
Congratulations! Have a happy and healthy pregnancy! Everything will be just perfect, you’ll see.
Hugs!
Alexandra says
First off, congratulations! Secondly, since you were pretty open talking about Clara’s birth and that experience, I was wondering if you would be sharing at all about your plans for this time around? Is a VBAC an option or not, and if not, how you’re feeling about it. Just curious and it’s an interesting area (your situation sounded like one of the reasons why medical intervention is so incredible). Thanks!

Congrats!! So excited for you guys!

I’ve been reading for a long time (since before Clara was born) but I’ve never commented before. Just had to tune in tofay to say a MASSIVE congratulations! I hope all goes well with your pregnancy!
I love your blog and am always impressed by your drive and class!

I just had twins and anytime someone tells me they are pregnant now I wonder (for excitement and for fear) if it is twins! It was our third and last baby and happened to be #3 and #4 and I was SOOO much sicker that with the previous two. You seem like you have a great support system though (both in real life and online!). Congratulations! Maybe people can stop bothering you about it now.
Liz says
I have been following your blog for a long time and never commented before but just wanted to give the thumbs up in support of doing whatever YOU need to do to keep YOUR bun private until you are ready to broadcast it to the world. Congrats on the pregnancy and don’t let a couple of rotten floorboards wreck your whole house. (Nice play on words, right?)

Tina says
OMG!!! Congrats!! Is it weird that I totally had a dream last week that you announced you were pregnant? Answer: Yes, it is weird. I’ve been reading the blog too much;) I’m so HAPPY for you guys!!! Yipee!!!
Lisa says
Sooo happy for your wonderful family! I started to post my congratulations this morning, but I figured, oh, you’ll get SO many congratulations, what’s the point of one more? But I had to come back and check out the total, so far, and decided to chime in – the quest is to break the all-time comment record! Also, the official nickname for the baby, besides “bean #2” has GOT to be “opossum”. (I cracked up over the ‘opossum in the basement’ comment!)

OOOOOOMYYYYYYYYGoodness!!!!!!! I’m so excited for ya’ll!!! I’ve never commented on here before but that cute pic of Clara and the exciting news brought a tear to my eye! I had to say something! I know this is weird because I’m a total stranger, but I had a feeling that she was. :) I know it will all go wonderfully! I had a not so fun first birth and the second birth was totally different and like healed me of all my fear from the first. I know everything will be great. :) I will be praying for ya’ll! :)

That is awesome news! I’ve been wondering how long it would take after moving into the new house. Same thing happened to me after my last move. Hope the next 6 months go very smoothly for you! xo
Deb says
Congratulations to all of you! Hope this second trimester is kinder to you. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers on this journey. AND thanks for sharing your news when it was appropriate regardless of those that think they should know your every move. for me this blog has been about the home(s) and your sharing of your family life is a wonderful bonus.
Julia says
HUGE CONGRATS!!!! And I know I’m the millionth person to say this, but:
a) those comments about your photoshopped belly were ridiculous and completely out of line, however…
b) you handled them with perfect civility and tact.
I absolutely adore your blog and cannot wait to follow the adventures of the new bean!
Lisa says
Congrats, Sherry and John! I am happy for you. I am 35 weeks along with my second baby boy (my older son turned 2 last weekend) and I am pretty scared because of the birth. So I think I can relate to what you must sometimes feel like.
I don’t want to ask anything too personal, but something that I asked myself a lot already: will you, Sherry, maybe learn to drive again/take lessons or anything since you said you do not drive anymore? I guess with two children, and no public transport in front of your door, it will be very hard on John if he is the designated driver all the time, no? And I personally wouldn’t want to wait for an emergency (like John is not there for some reason or injured or something) to see if I still can manage. I admit I have asked myself when I read about your average day how much more productive it could have been if John did not have to do all the driving.
Anyway, congrats again and an uneventful pregnancy!
mary says
WOOOOO congrats!! I think it would be cute to interview Clara (like you did for blogiversary), she’s so entertaining and I bet she’ll start having some funny thoughts on being a big sister. You should get her the book “How to Be a Baby” it’s really funny and also great for explaining babies to big siblings. Anyway I think a Clara video once you find out if it’s a boy or girl (if you choose to share) would be a hit!
Sue says
Congrats to the Happy Family! I’m one of those readers from the smallest sample of your pie-chart!! A young 60-something! I tell all the young teachers I work with about your blog! Bought your book for my daughter in law for Christmas! (Definitely need my own!) Perfect timing for your upcoming ‘bean’. Relax and enjoy the ride!

Woohoo! Congrats! :D
