We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.
Anne says
Congrats, Petersiks! I am so happy to see the news and those beaming smiles. Fingers crossed that the rest of your pregnancy is a smooth and happy one, and I hope you start feeling better soon, Sherry!
Alyssa says
Omg. I literally dreamt this a few weeks ago, and then was super disappointed when I realized it was just a dream! Probably because I’ve been reading your archives when you guys were pregnant, but I totally had a feeling! Yay!!!!! Congrats :)))
Carol says
Congratulations! I look forward to your blog everyday, but am not a regular commenter. Best wishes to all of you.

When I first started reading this post I had to scroll through to see if you were all playing a joke, like a half year April Fools Day joke or something! haha Very excited for you guys. I can totally relate to having a scary first baby birth (I had a very similar birth scare to Clara’s birth scare) and waiting for a while before number 2. I’m about 1 1/2 years behind you guys, so maybe by this time next year I’ll be ready to think about it again. Congratulations again, I was so happy for you when I realized it wasn’t a joke! :)
Deborah says
Guess I was a bit naive but I really thought your post asking everyone to stop asking was going to work! People are really strange sometimes. I think you guys come up with great ideas and even though I am super excited for you, I must admit I was bummed you didn’t share another house project today. LOL! Congratulations and best wishes to all of you!
Sandra T says
YAY!!! I’m so happy for you guys, I’ll say it again: YAY!!! Congrats to you guys, bravo for keeping it a secret (sorta?) as long as you did! I know, it’s hard! Btw, regarding your instagram feed? When I click to it from your blog page, I don’t see your original comments or hash tags any more. Is this something on my end, or your end? I enjoy your little observations! OMgosh, YAY!!! again! haha
YoungHouseLove says
Weird! I just tried and it’s only showing the comment and hashtag along the top bar of the window. So odd! Will ask John if he knows what’s up. Hopefully it’s just a small glitch.

If it helps, I noticed the change when I clicked on the ip of Clara and your mom riding the elephant. So maybe something different this past weekend?
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Sandra, that does help! We’re hoping to get to the bottom of it, but still hunting around! Here’s hoping it’s back to normal soon!

Hannah says
Congratulations :) now we know why you’ve been phoning it in these last few months. Good luck growing your bean and being able to get back into the blog!
Yvonne says
As an animal lover and parent, I’m so happy to see that Burger is such a prominent part of your family. I love your blog. Congrats!
Asha says
Congrats you wonderful Pertersiks!!! I’m reading this awesome news while in the labor & delivery room waiting on my section to decide to come :) So very excited for you and will pray for an uneventful and safe pregnancy and delivery. And John, my hubs loved your bean burrito support. ;)
Michelle says
Congratulations! I’ve been so anxious for you to add another bean. I’m actually due with our 3rd in April and made it public last week… and isn’t a certain K to the B due around the same time? Tripletsies?!?!
Jennifer says
Congratulations! That is so exciting. I’m due at the beginning of March and know all about the all day morning sickness, the worst…
Xanthe says
Congratulations to you all! Ace news. It’s fab you’ll share a pregnancy with Katie again. Having two kiddos is ace fun (and hard work! only 16 months between my two though). The sickness is horrible (I had with both of mine and was vomiting constantly) you just have to think of it as a good thing! as in baby is doing fine. Can’t believe the lengths people go to in looking at photos you post. It makes me think twice sticking up a pic on facebook, what if someone is on super zoom trying to work out if I photoshopped out a pimple!! scary. Take care xx
Rae says
Congratulations!
A few questions:
1) Will you find out the sex?
2) Can you share your top name lists? I love the list that pioneer woman has up!
3) Please keep us in the loop!
<3 another momma due in April

I had a feeling this post was coming because you always answer the “Is Sherry pregnant?” question at the Blogiversary (or at least it feels like you do!) and didn’t this year and/or somehow reference her NOT being pregnant, but y’all have stealthfully avoided any mention at all of bellies and pregnancy. All this is to say…
Congratulations!
Tammy says
Congratulations! Praying for an easy delivery of a healthy baby of the opposite sex of Katie Bower’s bean so that yours and theirs can be betrothed like Will and Clara! :-)
Suzette says
Congratulations!! And best wishes for a happy and healthy pregnancy!!
Jessica says
So excited for you all! I’m about to have our third baby TWO weeks from now and I’ve been sitting around the last few days stressed that my husband is forced to stay home because of the government shutdown. This bright spot of news MADE MY DAY! Can’t wait to read about you guys going through this journey. My oldest two are great friends and play together all the time. Parenting siblings is really amazing. I know you will love it too!
Liz says
Congrats! excited to hear about this little one but also excited to find out what you’ll do with the fabulous drop cloth…curtains? Love the shirt idea-so cute!
Christy says
Blessings on you all! Congratulations!
Hillary says
I am sure that someone already asked this, but is this the “other secret project” that you were “working on” that you couldn’t tell us about during blogiversary week?
Either way, congrats!
Jennifer says
So happy for you all – congratulations Petersiks!
Charity says
Congratulations! Hoping for a smooth pregnancy and birth for the new little bean!
michelle says
Hi Petersiks! Congratulations on your new addition! I don’t normally commment but today I thought I should so it can be added to the positive comments vs. those negative ones from the other day I just saw. I want to tell you that I LOVE your blog, I LOVE that you share your life so much, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE how positive you all are. I’ve read other blogs that sometimes come off as negative and we all get enough negative in the news, jobs, etc. That I don’t need it in my free time:) So my hat’s off to you on handling “challenging” situations whith such grace and poise, you truly are a CLASS ACT!
KatyO says
YIPPEEE!!!!! I have to confess that when I first read about Katie Bower being pregnant with #3 my first thought was that I was sad you weren’t also pregnant! I enjoy the “crossover” posts when y’all get together – especially how Clara and Will interact. I’m so excited that your #2 and her #3 will be similar in age!! I can’t decide what I want – a girl Bower and a boy Petersik or another boy Bower and another girl Petersik? Hmmmmm….should be fun to see how this unfolds!
Jen C says
Woo hoo hoo! Delighted for you all. Here’s to a easier (as it can be) pregnancy and a safe and healthy delivery.
And, as for photoshopping, I’d like to know how to photoshop pictures of myself! I’m a little behind the times on technology, but am all for it!
Warmest wishes to you!
Bekah says
A huge congrats you guys!
Marie says
congratulations! thanks for sharing so much love and light on your site.
so happy for your family, and wishing all the best as you welcome another little one to the world!

after a crummy morning I texted my husband and said “but sherry petersik is pregnant, so that makes my day better!” Congrats! We were pregnant with our first when you were expecting Clara! Now we are pregnant at the same time again!
Megan says
First off, Clara is ADORABLE in the picture! Such a little lady. And oh my goodness gracious CONGRATS! I’m so excited for you guys.
Allison says
John & Sherry!!!! Congratulations, this is such a wonderful post for those of us who enjoy your blog and all that you share about your sweet family :)
I hope this doesn’t come across as totally inappropriate and overstepping my virtual bounds… but as a gal who suffered hyperemesis gravidarum I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy! I wish I had known more about nutrition when I was pregnant. I came across some really interesting info on magnesium deficiency (which is on the rise, not due to a poor diet necessarily but due to modern farming practices that deplete the soil of critical minerals and vitamins) and low B vitamin levels related to severe morning sickness and vomiting in pregnancy. I only offer this as something to research because I feel for you and sincerely hope that you start feeling good again :)

Congrats! So happy for your family and sending prayers your way that everything goes smoothly. So my question for your upcoming post: how did you tell Katie Bower? And how close in age will both of your new babies be?
Leila Dishes says
How exciting – congratulations!
Katie says
I don’t even know you all, but I’m so happy for you! Oh, internet.
Best wishes, and can’t wait to see how you decorate the nursery.
Jen says
I hope the baby and Sherry are healthy yadda yadda, but you’re huge a**holes now with the photoshopping her stomach debacle the other day. Seriously, big f*cking a**holes. John doesn’t get to be all “the state of my wife’s uterus is none of your concern, so we photoshopped these images” and then be all PSYCCH WE ARE PREGGERS f*cking a week later. How bout you stop manually approving comments and/or just ignore the ones they don’t want to answer. I’d rather get a “no comment” than a flat out lie. I couldn’t give a sh*t about what’s inside of Sherry’s womb, it’s the principle of the matter on being truthful.
YoungHouseLove says
We essentially did say no comment. We didn’t say Sherry wasn’t pregnant, we said when it was safe to share and we had told our family we’d tell the internet (you can reread that thread here if you’d like), which is exactly what we did. It was great to reach our safe-to-share milestone and tell our families this weekend when they were all here in person, both of which happened AFTER that thread. I think anyone else with a high risk pregnancy (heck, or even without one) understands how important it is to share these things on your terms.

Nina says
Jen, really?!?! How dare you speak that way?! Get some manners! And by the way – if you didn’t notice – it’s THEIR blog, they can write whatever they like. If you don’t like it – just stop reading and get your own blog!
Jaime says
Whoa. They don’t owe you a thing, nor are you entitled to a single detail about their personal lives.
Jen, try showing a little class. Your explicit, offensive comments are really unnecessary.
HilaryB says
Jen,
I don’t know what you’re so angry about, but I’m willing to bet it’s not just this blog. You should be ashamed of that comment. I’m hoping you step back, think about it, and apologize to John and Sherry. I feel certain you are better than those hateful words.
Janice says
Seriously Jen? Do you feel better now you got your rude on? That was so very uncalled for. Please, take a walk, pet a dog, breath deep. dettle that aggression down, don’t take it out on nice people.
Stacy says
You need to fall back dude. This isn’t WikiLeaks, there’s no weapons of mass destruction, we aren’t bombing Syria (yet?). There was no circumventing the truth that resulted in something catastrophic. It’s not that serious, so just fall back with your righteous indignation!
How does this really affect your life? Is your reading comprehension up to par? Because they explained their VALID reasons for waiting to tell COMPLETE STRANGERS on the internet that they were expecting. They aren’t obligated to tell us anything personal, but graciously do. So in all actuality, these personal posts are just an added bonus for us.
Emily @ Two Purple Couches says
Congratulations to you all!
Susan says
How exciting for you all!!! A big congratulations and some definite empathy going Sherry’s way for the All Day (morning…hah!) Sickness. For me it was entire pregnancy sickness, but well worth it ;)
Ashley says
Congratulations! I’m always cautious about what products I use, especially when my daughter is in the house. I’m curious what paint you use that’s safe for a pregnant woman? My husband is concerned that the green stuff won’t wear as well as what we currently use but I’d like to get some painting done while Ophelia is sleeping. What has been your experience? Thanks!
JenB says
Jumping on the bandwagon a little late…congratulations!!!

Aww, congratulations! Such happy news!
I read some of the comments from the “stomach photoshopping crazies” and I’m sorry you had to defend yourself like that. You guys rock, so don’t let the trolls get you down!

So happy for your family.

Guys….this. is. awesome. I have been reading your blog for quite some time (you and Roo helped to inspire my blog actually!-you guys have awesome senses of humor!) and my boyfriend got your book for me for Christmas. So while this does not make us 143bffls, I still feel a connection to you and so I am over the moon for ya :)
