We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.
Emmie says
Yippee! Congrats you guys!

That is so super wonderful!!! Congratulations!

Great news…way happy for your family!!!

What a blessing! I’m so happy for y’all! The pictures are adorable! I hope your all-day sickness goes away soon, (I feel your pain–I had that with both of my wee ones!). I also hope the pregnancy and labor/delivery are safe and healthy! Congratulations!
Susan says
Congratulations!! That’s great news. Sherry, I can’t believe how much you’ve gotten done during the first trimester — with both of my kids, I was a sleepy, sleepy unproductive person until midway through the second trimester, especially the second time around with an active kiddo to keep up with. You’re amazing. Hope the nausea is on its way out soon! (And as someone who had moderate complications the first time, and smooth sailing the second, I really hope that this time around is not so scary!)
Laurie says
CONGRATULATIONS!!! So truly happy for the three, er, four of you! Clara looks pretty pleased with the position of big sister, and everyone already knows what great parents you are, so this is nothing but great news! I know I don’t really know you, but it feels like I do, so I’m already thinking of something to knit for the new bean! Enjoy this precious time together, and spring will be here in no time. Cheers to you all!!!!!
Seren says
FELICITATIONS !!! (picture me yelling in my living room at 11PM and my loved one looking at me, from across the room, with a skeptic look… but hey I couldn’t resist this bursting happiness flow)
Mother of 3 with some minor inconvenient during pregnancy, I just wish you peace, calm and hours of happiness during this journey.
Love you guys from day 1 (well almost day 1 :-) !!!
A frenchie addict

I’ve been running around all day and I hadn’t checked the blog at all (part of my daily routine) and while scrolling through Instagram on my phone I see a comment on Katie Bower’s post saying congrats to her and YOU on your pregnancies! I was like “whaaaaaaaat?????” Spoiler alert! So I raced to my computer and sure enough, its official :) So ridiculously happy for you guys! And so saddened to see threads in the comment section that can be harsh and uncalled for and just plain rude and insenstive. I applaud you Sherry for sticking up for yourself in a polite, mature way. Being pregnant and hormonal I’m not sure I would have been able to maintain the calm you did :) As another mama who had a scary birth experience with their first child, and a high risk second pregnancy, I can totally relate to how you must be feeling. I had a very hard time enjoying my second pregnancy…kept “waiting for the other shoe to drop”, so to speak. Just take it one day at a time and trust your own body and trust the plan your doctor has in place. Can’t wait to watch your belly grow and follow you and your family on this wonderful journey. Congrats Petersiks!!!

PS: What is that lovely fabric behind your portraits in this blog? Love it.

Yay! So many congrats!

Such wonderful news for your family! Congratulations!
P.S. Is there any way to block the nastiness coming through? People can be so rude and it totally ruins the vibe. But you guys handle it all like such pros. Just keep on, I guess!
Theresa says
YAY!! Congratulations to you both! I am so excited for you!!! With that being said, I am so, so sorry that ya’ll have to deal with people making rude, and completely ridiculous comments like that. I will, and always will support you guys in trying to keep your privacy. Your blog is about your home, and you deserve to be able to keep your personal life private. Once again, congratulations on the new bun in the oven, I hope and pray that you will continue to have a safe and healthy pregnancy. I know that ya’ll will continue to be amazing parents.

How exciting! Congratulations!

So happy for your special family!

Congratulations! Sibling-love is the best thing ever. I bet Clara will be a wonderful big sister!
Nik says
Many congratulations. Our oldest is about the same age as Clara and we also have a now 17 month old. Spoiler alert- the second child was a BIG SURPRISE for us…we like to think that if we had planned our second pregnancy we wouldn’t have had them so close together (22 months apart)…but I can not imagine our crazy lives without them both now. Two kids are definitely more than one, but in the best way possible. I wouldn’t trade the late nights, early mornings, piles of laundry, dirty floors, loud and rowdy chaos for anything.
Stefanie H. says
Do you think you’ll pick a name for this little one that “goes with” or compliments Clara’s name or something totally different?
I’m always brainstorming names and throwing out name ideas that might work together as a sibling set while my husband thinks I’m silly for picking names for kids that “go together” when they are two totally different people. I’m referring to my hypothetical children, of course. :)
Congrats, by the way!
Sarah says
Congratulations! I am amazed at how much you accomplish! I can’t imagine doing it all being pregnant with all-day sickness. I hope you start feeling better soon!!! I had all-day sickness with all of my pregnancies so I totally empathize.
Kristinah Henson says
AUGH!!! Yea! PLEASE pLEASE PLEASE, Whenever you start feeling upset about the jerk-face commenters, remeber the ratio of negative to positive you’re getting on this post and every day! You guys are awesome and resilient human beings! I appreciate you for what you do.
I am a proud member of both the “never been so happy for strangers” club and the “can’t wait to see the nursery” club!
Love and light to you and your families!
Dana Kay says
First, CONGRATS TO YOU ALL!!!
Second, if Clara is the “bean”, will you call the new baby the “beanette” or that too feminine? I meant it as being smaller!
Congrats again!!
Kelly says
Congrats guys! Thank you for sharing your lives with us – you are amazing! Clara and Bean and Burger are so lucky! xo
Marilyn says
Rude comments and all that jazz aside everyone, hel-lo focus on the good! CONGRATULATIONS. We will be sending prayers for a healthy little one your way!

Amazing news! It feels so strange to be so happy for a family I’ve never met. You make it so easy to feel like friends. I am amazed by the love, patience, kindness, and class you two show everyday, but especially to people consistently pestering you over baby news. I’m so happy you shared this news with everyone and hope you feel nothing but joy and love radiating from your followers!
Best wishes for a happy, healthy pregnancy and delivery!

Congratulations! You will be the best parents, big sister and burger to this new Petersik addition. Lucky bean!
Laura B. says
Hi guys. I am very happy for all three of you. Our first delivery was rough requiring two weeks in the hospital afterwards. Four years later we finally had our second. There was a little bit of nervousness but not enough to keep us from the joy of trying for another. We have 5 now! I will be praying that all goes well and you are blessed with the second of the two cutest little people ever. :)
Louisa T. says
Yay!! Aww dammit, who started cutting onions? Just a tear of joy for you guys!

Aw thanks everyone! You’re all so sweet and we love you love you love you. Stop making me cry.

Huge congratulations. So excited for you all. If I may ask a question for answering (probably one you have already been asked) I am a fellow c-sect mumma and was just wondering what your plans/hopes are for #2 in the birth? I am in australia and I am able and encouraged to try for a vbac. So just wondering if you have the option and how it may differe etc..Sorry if that is a bit to personal to share… totally understand :) SOO cant wait to see the nurserey of course and I pray that you are feeling better really soon xo

Congrats y’all, enjoy every minute of it :D

I am a huge fan of your blog and have gotten so much inspiration, encouragement and positive vibes from reading and I just want to say that I am so excited for you! I just had a baby boy myself 6 weeks ago so pregnancy announcements have a whole new meaning to me. It is truly a blessing to be able to share such wonderful news and I wish you a wonderful pregnancy. I can’t wait to see what new adventures are in your family’s future! :)

PETERSIKS! I’m due in April TOO! This is so exciting… I just hit 12 weeks and the “safe zone”, it’s my first so it’s not necessarily a high risk pregnancy. I’m so excited to go along this pregnant lady journey with you Sherry! I have to say, I was thinking a few weeks ago to myself, hmmm… Sherry hasn’t been in many pics lately…. Well I was right! I haven’t been in many pics myself lately.. so it was no judgement or anything, just one prego lady in tune with another… LOL. CONGRATS to your family! So excited to see Clara as a big SIS! :D

So much exciting news lately – a new home and then a new child. I’m just so pleased. I can’t believe the sleuthing people do! I’m certainly not obsessed with your reproduction, but I am so pleased that Clara will have a sibling cause I loved growing up with siblings. Yay for another new chapter in your life (and my blog reading!)
gk says
congrats! i echo all the well-wishes from the gazillion commentors before me. i am pregnant (due in feb) with my second child after a previous full-term loss, and maybe i’m projecting my own anxiety, but i can only imagine that you are excited and anxious and will be up until you get that baby home! best wishes for peace of mind during this pregnancy, a no-drama delivery, and a healthy mom and baby.
ps – i had moderate nausea during my first pregnancy. i mostly kept it at bay by eating high-protein snacks right before bed. this pregnancy, i’ve been going to acupuncture and holy crap – it completely got rid of the nausea. it’s amazing, but it freaked me out at first b/c i thought that something was wrong and i was miscarrying. it’s not for everyone, but acupuncture worked miracles for me.

Haven’t been here in a while and boy have you guys been busy! ;-) So happy for you all, congratulations and take care guys!

Yay! Yay! Yay! I read this while at work and actually started screaming. People around here think I am weird…it’s probably true. :) So happy for your growing family. Prayers and happy thoughts for a healthy momma and bean! Congratulations!

Congratulations!
As Sherry’s friend Katie has also announced her pregnancy, will you be doing tandem blog posts?!
Will you find out the sex of the baby before the birth?
Has Clara already thought of names for the baby, even a nickname?
Will you still go with cloth diapers?
All the best,
Christine A. says
I can’t decide if Clara looks more like mom or dad in that photo! She seems to combines both of your smiles. Congrats and best wishes on your newest little one!
Danielle says
I’m so happy for you guys! My husband and I recently decided that we would start trying to conceive this month, so knowing that you guys are expecting makes me super excited about the potential for my own family to grow sometime in the near future.
Wishing your family all the best, and I can’t wait to see all the baby projects!!
Dianna says
If you are happy Sherry, do not let anyone try to take that from you and your family. The folks that thought it was appropriate to make such rude comments are reprehensible. They have no say whatsoever in your family’s decisions and should really appreciate the blog for what it is, DIY. Best of luck throughout the rest of your pregnancy, but also best of continued success in what the blog is more about, DIY! Take the time to rest and enjoy this period in your life and let ‘the haters hate cause they can’t appreciate’.
SarahC says
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS, John and Sherry! That is such wonderful news and I am thrilled for your sweet family. I know there have been a lot of enthusiastic comments mixed with some unfortunate and downright ugly ones. I truly hope the excitement and loving support of this virtual community shines brighter for you today than the few detractors. Haters gonna hate but there is much more love than that in this world. :)
Mia B says
I love how the the comments to this post are practically crashing the entire internet! (or just the YHL corner of it, whichever – Petersiks are crushing it!)
Congratulations!
Shannon says
I just love, y’all! Your blog is the only one I read on a daily basis. You’re constantly moving and inspiring me and Clara is the cutest little girl I’ve ever seen. She’s going to be a great big sister and you two seem like such wonderful parents. SO many congratulations to the five of you!
Diana says
I’ve already commented with my congrats, but I also wanted to say that every time I see burger’s pic I imagine him saying “did somebody say burrito” in the taco bell chihuahua voice! LOL
