We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

I am so happy for you guys! Positive thoughts and comments to your family!

CONGRATS!!!! I seem to be one of the few that didn’t expect this news for some time to come. How exciting! Kudos to you both for managing a toddler, your crazy schedule, the move and overall stress/crappy feeling/worry of first trimester life. Hopes and prayers for a smooth journey!
I hate to be a buzz kill… but could you indulge me in some house talk? We are removing the builder grade carpet going up our stairs and hallway landing. Budget can’t expand enough for new treads/risers and a runner, so I figure a high-traffic patterned nylon would be a fun alternative for now (and possibly ever!). The stairs greet you shortly upon entry, much like your house, so I want to find something eye-catching but not distracting. I’ve narrowed it down to two choices… would love your vote (if you have time amongst these thousands of comments!).

I am so excited for you guys. A girl laughed at me today at work because I said “oh yay!” out loud in our office, and then I had to explain well I don’t actually know these people personally, but I follow their blog. Congrats!!!

Congratulations, Petersik family! What an exciting season in life it is for you all. I will be praying for an easy and care free pregnancy- you deserve it! I am currently in my third trimester after experiencing a difficult pregnancy that sadly resulted in my sweet daughter passing away shortly after birth. While worries can be consuming, I’m trying to just focus on each day and celebrate each happy moment as it comes. What are you doing, Sherri (or John) to help ease any anxieties you might have?
Because of you, I went the Bumgenius route along with Lifefactory bottles. You guys really inspired me to go green and organic when selecting crib sheets, clothes, bath products etc. Has anything else come on the market since Miss Clara was an infant that you are anxious to try?
Congratulations again. I am so looking forward to following your little joy’s journey.

Congrats guys, all the way from Oz!
I just finished reading every single one of your 6years worth of posts (I totally deserve a badge). It took me about 18months but I LOVED the ride! Thank you for being so positive and for generously sharing what you do with others. You just continue to get stronger and stronger. What a fantastic time to be up to date and reading your special news on the day it’s announced. : )

Question for the Q&A. Maybe this is too intense of a question for the blog/for the public but I also had a very normal pregnancy go wonky at the end. I delivered a month early with an emergency c-section and my son spent 3 weeks in NICU. Im having a hard time imagining pulling the trigger again!! Im so freaked to go through all of that again and have another baby in the NICU. I know you mentioned being scared to get pregnant again. How did you get passed it! Im sorry if even the question brings up bad memories!
Cassie says
Aww Congrats guys!! Thanks for letting us into your homes and lives everyday! I have enjoyed watching your houses morph and change, and also seeing Clara grow into a young girl, and you two into parents! You are an inspiration!
Ps- I didn’t even notice you photoshopped that pic in the other post! Just thought you had great abs from all the home improvements you do!

Congratulations! That’s one lucky baby. So happy for you all.

Many congratulations you three!! As a neonatal NP, I can appreciate you sharing your birth story about Clara on so many levels. I wish you nothing but happiness & health!! YAY!

Eeeek!!! I’m so excited for you!!! Congratulations!! :D :D :D Cute, cute, cute announcement too. Congratulations. Did I say that already? I hope it all goes really smoothly this time :). Hugs!

So, so happy for your family! I will be keeping you in my prayers, as I know there is some fear there from Clara’s birth story. Everything will be fine. :)
This post almost makes me wish I was pregnant too! Almost… (My 13 month old is enough of a handful for now! Haha) but it really is such a special time.
Sarah F. says
Congratulations! That is wonderful news, and props on the adorable announcement! How cute that you and Katie B. are pregnant together with such close due dates again! I’m also excited because I’m pregnant with my first, due in mid-February, and I love that I’m pregnant “along side” you both. Can’t wait to see your nursery & other baby-related purchases and projects!
I’m curious to see what items you held on to from Clara’s baby days (like the play mat in the ‘future nursery’ pics), and what you wished you had kept or what you were glad you gave away/sold/etc. I know a lot of people hang on to baby stuff but not always when there’s a bigger age gap.
Ana says
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so happy for you!!!!!

Ohmygosh! CONGRATULATIONS!
This is so exciting. I hit the end of my first trimester today (huzzah!), so I ALSO have an expanding family and an April baby. Maybe they’ll be birthday buddies from afar! (I hope this isn’t too creepy or anything). I am so excited for you all (is burger stoked to be a big brother?) and I hope that the whole nausea/vomiting (I totally sympathize) and all the other joys that come with baking a bean begin to subside.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Congratulations Sherry, John, Clara and Burger! It’s probably too early for this but I would love to hear about what financial adjustments you’ll make for Baby #2, if any.
And what are the big lessons you learned about your first pregnancy that you’ll put to good use this time around?

congratulations from Chile. I’m so happy for you guys! xoxo

Congrats and best wishes! I am due with our first in March, and am completely loving the fact that I am pregnant at the same time as you, Katie Bower and Emily Henderson! The nursery decor Gods are smiling down on me!

Congratulations!!! :)
I have a wee man who is 3 days older than Clara and we’re trying for number 2 (I would say too, but you’re already preggers, woohoo! :))
Clara will be a great big sister and will be an awesome helper for you and in a better place to understand what’s going on. My husband has 4 years between him and his sister and they’re great friends. (I think I just started trying to make myself feel better about the age age we’ll end up with! But just think, by the time I get there my wee man might be in school – how easy will my life be?! :))
Enjoy guys :)

Yeeeee!!! So excited for you guys! What are the things you’re looking forward to about being pregnant? Anything you’re dreading?
Nata-lee says
Oh my gosh! How freaky! I was just re-reading “Clara’s Birth Story” (always makes me tear) and “State of the Uterus Address” last night! I’m so happy for you guys! Thank you for sharing this great news with us! Wish you all the best always! Nursery design time!
Dani says
I have a question for your Friday post! (If you dont mind, its none of my business and if you dont want to answer it that’s cool too!)
In Claras birth story you said:
“I’m sure when I’m pregnant again I’ll be much less happy go lucky about it. Which is really sad. John keeps begging me to let it be the same joyful and unabashedly exciting time as it was before. But I know myself. And I’ll be on high alert. Searching for any signs or symptoms that something’s wrong. And scared even if there aren’t any signs of trouble (because there weren’t any before I started feeling contractions with Clara- it just all came out of nowhere). I’m scared that I might even be afraid to get a nursery ready.”
That post was a couple of years ago. So… How are you feeling now that its all actually happening?
Julie says
Congrats!
What names are you considering? Maybe Clara will come up with a good one!
And are you planning on cloth diapers again? I actually just started using them thanks to your blog!
Emily says
Congratulations J & S! And thanks for making me smile at work today, couldn’t be happier for you and your family.

I can’t believe I’m this happy and excited for people I don’t even know! Hope this pregnancy is safe, happy, and healthy (and you can keep it in the family- no mean blog trolls allowed)! Congrats! :)

Congrats! My daughter, Evelyn, is a little older than Clara and she LOVES watching videos of Clara if she catches me reading YHL ;). She sends a big huggie to Clara.

Congrats you guys!! Is this baby the “secret project” you guys were talking about in an earlier post? Or is there another secret?! (You don’t have to spill the beans if there is, just curious if there’s still another big thing the Petersik family is working on!)
Monique says
Congratulations Guys fabulous news!!
Lisa says
I posted earlier with my congrats but can’t find that comment to add on my questions. :-)
When and how did you tell Clara?
Will you find out the gender?
Will you cloth diaper again? (I’m a huge fan of cloth diapering- I have 2 in cloth right now- my 21 month old and 3 month old). Will you consider other brands? For my newborn I have LOVED GMD organic workhorse fitteds. He can go 10 hours at night in them without a leak and they have saved me!!!
Do you read any cloth diaper blogs? I’m devoted to “All About Cloth Diapers”, it taught me everything I know.
Katie has posted a few maternity clothes posts in the last month? Do you share the same style?

Congratulations on your new addition!! I had my daughter last April (almost 18 months) – she was actually at your book signing in Boston! Anyway (focus! lol), April is an awesome time! (Probably very similar to May). Here’s to a safe and healthy 9 months!!! :) Congrats, again!

Congratulations! Very excited for you guys and how fun to go through your pregnancy with your BFF! I also want to comment how much class you both have. I also was redirected to the past thread, and it makes me sick how mean people can be. Your positivity and class aspire me to be better especially in those more challenging situations. What a wonderful example you are setting for Clara and your future bean!

I was so happy and yelled my husband asked what was wrong. I told him Clara was going to be a big sister. He asked, “Clara who?” I said, “John and Sherry are pregnant!” “Are they work friends? Do I know them?” Once I told him, Young House Love was preggers, he got it! Congrats from us! As someone who had a very high risk 2nd pregnancy, I totally get waiting. Good things come to good people, enjoy the wild ride of baby #2!

AHHH! I was hoping I would see this post someday soon-especially since one of my other favorite bloggers announced last week they were adding on to their family in April as well! :) It brought my 32 week pregnant self to have a tear in her eye and a huge goofy grin on her face! So happy for you all, Clara will be an awesome big sister! Hope you start feeling better soon!!!

I got goosebumps when I opened this post. Very exciting! My kids are about as far apart as your children will be. I think it’s wonderful. I am so happy you chose to share it in your own time. Family first. Congrats again!

My best friend emailed me at work today “SHERRY IS FINALLY PREGNANT” (even with the caps). Obviously we are on a first name basis with you. ;) We both freaked out and fangirled for a while. So excited for you guys!

Hooray and congratulations!!! Now all the nosey folks have their fix and won’t be bugging you guys for “are you pregnant?” news. ;) Sherry, I hope and pray you get to feeling better. Being nauseous and sick is no fun when you want to celebrate all that’s going on. Congrats to John–continue being a great dad and husband! And to Clara and Burger, have fun with your new sibling; we know you’ll make him/her feel right at home. God’s grace and peace to you as you wait for the new Petersik’s arrival!

Congratulations on the newest addition to your family :) It was exciting news to hear! I love your blog and follow it religiously. I’m sorry to hear people are so nosey about your private lives, so much so that they express that rudeness on your comments section. I don’t have kids yet, but I have been getting rude snide remarks for the past 6 years from many people. Anyways, just wanted to say congrats, and I feel your pain (on a different level) and pray for a healthy baby and a safe and speedy delivery for you Sherry! :) Best wishes to you all!!!

Congratulations, Sherry! Such exciting news!

So happy for your family! Clara certainly set the bar high, but there is no doubt this one is going to be a cutie too! Thank you so much for giving us a peak into your personal lives, so many people can relate to you both. A few years ago my sister gave birth to a (big) boy and had a placental abruption. The doctors said they never gave such a large blood transfusion to a person and survived. Anyways, she wasn’t supposed to have any more children and SURPRISE she is due in March. So…I completely understand you keeping this under wraps for as long as possible. Everytime I read Clara’s birth story I cry. I wish you a very happy & healthy pregnancy.
Jo says
Yea! Here’s to an uneventful pregnancy.

I am so excited for you! We just had our first in July, and I used your cloth diapering post as a jumping off point for starting up my own stash (since then, I’ve totally become a crazy cloth hoarder- they are so cute!). I also took a lot of inspiration from your weekly pics of Clara – we are only doing it monthly, but every month our little girl gets a different patterned blanket as a background and we put her in a white onesie and photoshop the months on the onesie!
I can’t wait to see how you do the nursery!
Congratulations!
