We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

I am SO excited for y’all! I’ve followed you for so long that I feel like I just heard a couple of my close friends are expecting, haha! Hoping and praying for a smooth, uneventful pregnancy and delivery this time! Congratulations!
Susan Hitt says
I am so happy for you, John, and Clara! I’ll be sending good thoughts your way for a safe and easy pregnancy! Looking forward to Friday’s post full of details! :)

SO happy for you guys! As someone who isn’t 100% sure if I want kids or not, watching your parenting and successful balance of everything is inspiring and just plain fun!
Any thoughts about letting Clara name the bean this go around?? I mean, she’s proven herself worthy with such names as Gee and Collie :) Haha, just kidding, but it would be fun to hear any ideas she has!
Melanie says
Wonderful news! I’m sure that was a scary decision based on your past experience and I’m so happy for you. I’m sure everything will go swimmingly this time around and am excited to see your family grow. :) And super excited to see a fancy-pants nursery!
Erika P. says
I just want to say congratulations!! I’m also due in April (3rd baby)!
Erin says
Such great news! Thanks for sharing with us and making us feel like part of the family. :) All the best to all of you!

I am so happy for you all! Congratulations!

Wonderful news!
I have been a labour and delivery nurse for over 20 years and I have never seen a mother go through what you did with Clara twice. Each pregnancy is different and so is the delivery. They will keep an eye on you, but things will go smoothly
enjoy!

I didn’t think this news could get better until I read the “MORE PETERSIKS!” comment.
Yes. Yes that is what this means. And more Petersiks is exactly what the world needs. More Petersiks more better.
Picture me singing some modified Jackie DeShannon for the rest of the evening. And all my good vibes are aimed at y’all as I’m singing. Congrats congrats congrats!
Colene E says
What exciting news!!! Is it crazy that I think Clara looks so big now that she’s going to be a big sister?!? I’m excited for all…
Ashley says
So thrilled for your sweet family. Sherry, I will start saying prayers now that things go smoothly. Hope you can put all the “what ifs” aside and really enjoy this time. And…Can’t wait to see what you do in the nursery, of course! Congrats! xoxo

Congratulations! That is wonderful news and I’m so happy for your family!!! I know this comes not too long after you posted about viewers using discretion and not asking whether or not you are pregnant. I’m sorry you even had to write that post, and I definitely know how you feel. Every couple has their own circumstances for if and when they have children, and it is very insensitive for people to pry on what may be a touchy topic. My husband and I have been married for 8 years and we have chosen to delay having kids because of finances and schooling. It has been really difficult for me in particular as I have very strong maternal instincts. Sometimes I worry that life will keep throwing us curve balls and it will never happen. You can imagine how many times people have asked about having children over an 8 year span, particularly because our faith is very family centric and couples usually have a lot of children. I feel like the “bad” couple. Anyway, eventually I’ll come up with some creative responses, but right now I just try to avoid the subject.

Just wanted to add my CONGRATULATIONS Sherry, John, Clara and Burger!!!
You are my most “favorite strangers” as someone referred to you in one of the comments :) That’s just the perfect description of how I feel about you – I don’t really know you but I love you.
Thank you for your blog, your adorable daughter, for your beautiful house and for sharing all of it with us!
Emma says
I enjoyed reading your blog initially because of the content relating to DIY home, etc. the fact that you share your personal lives is a bonus as it is never a requirement! I’m always thankful you do, because I feel like I know you guys (creepy much?) :) and I feel privileged to read these happy life posts! I hope pregnancy treats you well Sherry and I can’t wait to read on. Congratulations Petersiks!!!
Carrie says
First off, Sherry you are adorable and I am so excited for you and John! We’re expecting our second little one in November, so currently 34 weeks pregnant. I am so exhausted! What do you do to recharge/find time to connect with this pregnancy? I remember obsessing over every detail of my first pregnancy but with this one I’m so busy the time has just flown by. I’m feeling guilty that this baby is already not getting as much attention as the first. Do you have any ideas/projects planned to help make the new baby feel special?
Kirsten says
Isn’t it funny how you can be so thrilled for someone you have never met… who lives on the Internet :-) congratulations all the way from australia!!
Carla B. says
Many congrats you y’all! Happy and healthy 9 months to you! :)
Susan says
As a mom of 8, I can say that without a doubt, your heart doubles in size each time. When I had my second child, I was actually a little worried, because I couldn’t imagine how I could love another child as much as I loved my little girl. Yet when he was born, it was INSTANT love! It was so great! I’m so, so happy for all of you! Congratulations!
Whitney says
Congratulations and best wishes!

Congrats P family!!! Wishing you a healthy and uneventful 9 months. Can’t wait to see the nursery plans.

Congratulations! As someone who has dealt with infertility, long TTC times and eventual adoption, I applaud you on releasing the info when and how you are comfortable. =) And looking forward to more parenting posts! You’re part of the reason we use cloth diapers and are trying BWL!

Many congrats to all the Petersiks! What wonderful news! Wishing you a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery, Sherry! Thank you so much for sharing your life with all of us! I can’t wait to see what you do with the new nursery (I’m still ironing out the kinks for my LO due next month!) How excited are you and KB to be preggo again together? Yay!!
Heather says
Congratulations! I’m actually in the hospital from having my baby girl today! So excited for you guys! :)

Congratulations! (And I, too, am appalled at that previous thread! I am a fellow Prolapsed Cord/Emergency C-section/high-risk pregnancy mama, and I know that was probably one of the most traumatic events of your life. I was so filled with fear in a subsequent pregnancy, and it brought back lots of hard memories. I wish the snarky commenters could understand that are on sacred ground here!)
Tracy Carson says
Congratulations all the way from across the country in San Diego! So sincerely happy for you guys in the most genuine way I can for a couple I have never ever met. The interwebs can be so strange and so lovely all at the same time! So to complete strangers, I raise my glass in joy and happiness. May this pregnancy remind you of all of the blessings of a new child and eliminate any fears you may be experiencing of the delivery. All the best!
Allison says
Yippeeeee! I’m so happy for you, and will be keeping you in my thoughts. My poor bf has no idea why I’m so excited for people I don’t even know haha. You and Katie must be having so much fun being pregnant together!!! Wishing you all the best.
Betsy says
Awwwwwww, congrats!! As always, you all are so classy and genuine with the manner that you deliver news and also ask that others be sensitive to having your personal lives as well. What a talent to have that great balance!
I do have to admit, during the Q & A video I was wondering with all the pony-tail flipping during the question about the “best part of this year.” Not a good poker face, Sher-dog!!
All the best!

Lots of babies on the way right now (currently pregnant with baby 2 as well, arriving in February.)I hope you feel better soon and best wishes for a smooth pregnancy. Clara will be a fantastic big sis! (I will be curious to see if you choose to find out gender and share, everyone (myself included) seems to be having little boys!)

Are you guys going to use the same cloth diapers you used for Clara? Or were they finally “loved” into retirement?
I’m due with my first in April! I was secretly crossing my fingers that we would be pregnant at the same time… ohh, dear. I’m such a geek.
Congratulations you guys!

Congratulations! Best wishes for a safe, happy, and healthy pregnancy! Can’t wait to “meet” the next bean. :) (Is it weird to be so happy for two people I’ve never met? Your blog has been my #1 favorite for years!)

Congratulations!!!! This is so exciting!!! And also a weird coincidence, just yesterday I was reading an old post of yours about how you were NOT pregnant and how the constant asking could be insensitive in multiple ways. Yay for buns in the oven! :)
Look on pintrest for nausea pop recipes!

Congratulations, Sherry! My mom texted me this morning to tell me to check YHL, stat! as there was big news going on!! You have always deflected the questioners and accusers of you being pregnant so gracefully, and I’m glad you shared this news with us!! Are you planning on documenting the new addition’s growth with the photo series or will you do something different and special, for him/her?
Christina V says
YAY!!!!!!!!!!! I just got the biggest smile, congratulations guys!

CONGRATS!!! I’m thrilled for you guys!! I was hoping this announcement was coming and almost commented a few weeks ago about how their were so many more posts written by John lately but I wanted to be super sensitive, just in case. You are both amazing parents and I can’t wait to see this new part of your journey!
Take good care of yourself Sherry!!

Congratulations!!!!! I’m due March 27th! Maybe we will both have April babies!!!!!

I don’t generally comment, although I read everysingleword of everysinglepost you guys write. Even though I’m not in your most popular demographic (in my 40’s…errr….almost 50’s LOL) BUT I had to share that I had happy tears on your behalf today at your news. I am expecting my first grandchild in a few short weeks, and so perhaps I am more than a little emotional over the whole event. I almost texted my expectant daughter (who started me on the whole YHL addiction), to say, hey! did you see that John and Sherry are having another baby? And then I stopped and thought, she’s going to think I’m nuts. (Well, she already does, thus I try not to contribute to this any more than necessary.) Anyway, approximately .272 minutes later, she texted me and said, “DID YOU SEE THE YHL NEWS TODAY? I cried a bit, I think it’s pregnancy hormones or something.” So, I comment today to say, you made not only the hormonal 36-week-pregnant momma-to-be cry today, but her momma too. Gosh, you’d think WE were related to YOU guys or something. Congrats! :-D
