We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

Oh my gosh you guys, CONGRATULATIONS!! I usually don’t comment but I couldn’t help myself with this one. I will be praying for a safe and healthy pregnancy. So much happiness for you all! My super curiousity questions:
-are you going to do the pics again? Maybe a project 365 this time??

-is this your super secret project you were talking about during last weeks bloggiversary??? That’s a big project!!
Congrats and best wishes!! So happy for your family!

Molly says
Yay congrats for you guys!! Were you worried about people around Richmond seeing you pregnant and spoiling it online? I had a hunch when you posted a picture of your house recently from an evening walk and it looked like there was a light on in the “potential nursery” upstairs… I was wondering if you have been doing any prep work in there since finding out!
Best of luck!
YoungHouseLove says
No lights in there yet! We just turned on the closet light and the hall light, which seemed to work.

Congratulations!! You must be sooooo excited! I wish you good health throughout your pregnancy. hope your morning sickness is short lived.

I know you started Young House Life after Clara was born. I’m wondering if you’d consider writing more pregnancy posts on the Life site? I’m thinking in the vein as Kath Eats Real Food/Baby Kerf…?
Dusa says
Congratulations! Clara is gonna be an awesome big sister!
Caitlin says
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU GUYS! I’ve been a reader for years and I’m so excited to see your family grow! I love when you mention coming to Delaware, some love for the first state!! (DE Homegirl here!)
Kate says
Will you be cloth diapering #2? I stumbled upon you guys looking for tile postings years ago and appreciated you in a different way for cloth diapering Clara. You showed how easy it is which sealed the deal for me.
Julia says
Aw, you and Katie Bower are pregnant together again :) I am due March 25th with my second. My first, Will, is going to be 3.5 when the baby is born. It will be fun to see updates on how Clara is doing with the baby since I will be going through the same thing. Will isn’t very excited yet. He keeps telling me “I want no one else in this house, just mommy, daddy and Will.” Hopefully the excitement kicks in later on…
Paige says
Ooh, maybe from now on you could photoshop really BIG bellies into all of your photos. That would really give people something to chat about!
Congratulations Petersik quartet!
Kristen says
Um, I love this idea. Please do!
A Mystical Male Reader says

Congrats!!!! I had a feeling that you were and that’s why you avoided answering questions!! Hopefully it’s smooth sailing throughout the pregnancy..after all it’s “in like a lion and out like a lamb” for a April due date, right? :)

Congratulations! Looking forward to the new adventure. Clara is a year older then my daughter and we are contemplating #2.
How did you tell John? Hope the sickness passes and that you are able to enjoy this pregnancy.

Baby Bean and Baby Bower can be BFFs like Clara & Will… all the cuteness!!!
Congrats!
Lisa says
How exciting!! Congrats!!!
How did you find out?
Has Clara expressed interest in a particular gender?
Hooray!!
Karla@{TheClassyWoman} says
Yay!! So happy for you guys-congrats!! :) I highly recommend hypnobirthing. I had an awesome instructor who was also my Doula, they can help with traumatic first birth experiences. If you do something different this time around-water birth is amazing! So peaceful and gentle, it was a perfect 1st experience for me (I did it at a birth center with my midwife). Blessings on your family and baby on the way! XX
Robin says
Congratulations, you guys! I’m so happy for you and your beautiful family. I wish you all the best with your pregnancy!

So happy for you all! Clara looks so happy and she is such a lovely girl! Enjoy the time you have as a 3-some (sorry Burger) and give your only girl some extra only girl time before the newest arrival shows up! She will be a fantastic big sister I am certain! Looking forward to meeting the newest member of your clan!
Jenny says
Congrats you guys! So very exciting.

Congratulations!!! How wonderful! I was very sick with my April baby too! Around 20 weeks it began to subside. Yuck! But totally worth it of course. Can’t wait to see a new nursery!! And to see Clara’s excitement. :)

Congratulations, Petersiks! I love how you posted your announcement w/ the special, funny t-shirts, too. (Did you make them, or are they computer-generated text on your photos?) That’s one of the cutest pics of Clara!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Kathy! We took inspiration from Clara’s photo project for those, so they’re all done in photoshop!

What a blessing, congratulations to your family! I am due with my first on Easter (April 20). It’s been so hard to be sick at work and have to keep my bean a secret. We just told family and close friends this past weekend and it was so fun to share the news. I wish you the best over the next 7 months and pray you don’t have any complications. Take Care! I’m excited to see what you do with the new nursery!!!
Jessie D says
Congrats!! I’m due with baby #1 for our family! Can’t wait to hear any fun tips you have!
Gretchen says
Aww, congratulations! We just found out (as in, five days ago) that we’re expecting too! While I’m thinking baby thoughts, I’ll be praying for a safe and healthy delivery for this little one, and peace for you guys in the waiting.
P.S. I’m enjoying the My Color paint. ;-)

I’m so happy for you guys! Awesome news! Hope the all-day sickness is a thing of the past!
Kelli says
yaayy!!! Congrats! Sorry you had to deal with that other crap-o-la about the picture.. man, who the heck is paying that close attention anyway? I remember seeing that pic and never gave it a second thought..
but it’s very exciting news! Can’t wait to see what all you two have in store for the house/nursery and stuff – much love!
Alyce says
And BAM, the interwebs just exploded with estrogen left, right and centre, haha!! And seeing as there are over 3000 comments already, I’m sure all my questions have been asked, lol! Like, are you going to find out the gender/tell the interwebs, any cravings, how Clara took the news/does she understand what it means? Can’t wait for the next 6 months of baby posts and beyond! Praying for a safe and healthy pregnancy and birth x
Ashley says
Oh, I have some questions too!
-Have you had any weird cravings? I am also due in April and just had my first and my husband really pulled through…Dirt Cake, you know chocolate pudding layered with crushed oreos, whipped cream and gummy worms
-With Clara did you find out the gender at the doctor’s appointment or did you do the envelope thing and open it with fanfare? I did see that you made ginger girl cookies, which were super cute. Our family is pushing for a gender reveal party, but I think it might be fun for my husband and I to find out together before.
-Will you be doing weekly or monthly bump photos? I’ve take a 4 week and 10 week so far, but I think in the last day or two I started getting a “real” bump.
Take Care!
Shelby C. says
Yayyyy!!! Big Hugs! I started reading just after Clara was born, so happy to be able to follow along with baby Petersik #2 and Baby Bower #3! So extremely happy for you guys, Clara’s going to be a fabulous big sister!!!!
Danielle says
Wow! Congratulations, that is wonderful news. I just had my first 10 months ago and had a horrible birth experience ( not nearly as traumatic as yours) now seeing you move on to baby number two, gives me hope someday I might also be brave enough to do the same. Best wishes to your growing family.
Sherri says
Congratulations! Such exciting news. I am a prayer warrior, and I have a prayer basket with names in it. I already wrote “Sherry and Baby Petersik” on a piece of paper and put you in my prayer basket. You will be prayed for frequently until you have A SAFE DELIVERY AND HEALTHY BABY. AMEN! May the Lord bless you and your family.
Braelin says
Wahooooooooooo! I’m thrilled for your family. Thank you for sharing your family’s great news with us too. Here’s to a happy and healthy pregnancy and baby bean!
Angela says
Yay! Yay! Whoop whoop!. So excited for you guys. My baby brewing days are over. I’m raising 3 kids 4yrs, 6yrs & 8yrs, so I love to live through others with newborns. I’m so excited where all this new stuff in your lives will take the blog. I’m so sorry to read all the nasty comment stuff. I totally missed it and kind of glad I did. It was quite intense, the quick bit I grabbed from your link earlier. I’m all for your new comment policy, great idea. Like you say “its only decorating” I personally come here for entertainment and ideas, not drama! We feel like we know you as friends, because you guys are so generous with your lives, but even friends I actually know I wouldn’t treat like that! It’s no ones business what personal decisions you make and when IE getting pregnant. I’m just really thankful that you guys choose to share your lives in that way with us, because it really makes this blog so much more enjoyable for me.Finally, as others have said, you have handled your comments with such grace and dignity & I am sure it was hard to handle in your office, but together the final product that we see is so inspiring. Forget the trolls and believe in yourselves, so many more of us think you’re doing an awesome job & really appreciate it.
Vonda says
Congrats!!! I’m so excited for you – especially after reading Katie’s news a month or so ago! I’m expecting too, due in march, after giving up 3 years ago when our fertility doc told us we should consider adoption or a surrogate womb. (probably TMI, sorry!)
I’m also a little blown away at the nasty hateful few over on your day in the life post. I’ve followed yall forever and never seen such! Th so is supposed to be my happy place!! I’m appalled at the inconsideration and boldness of people. And the fact that someone used an anonymous name, what a coward. Sorry u had to deal with that.
Sara C. says
Congrats, Petersiks!!! So exciting!
Deanna says
Are you going to let Clara help decide on Baby P’s name?
Lisa S says
Congrats!! I’m expecting my first just a few weeks earlier than you. I was almost as excited to read this post as I was when I saw my own positive pee test!
Meg says
SO, SO, SO very happy for you all!!!! Congratulations!!!!! EEEEEEEK! Let’s decorate a nursery!!!
Nita E. says
Congratulations, Petersiks! Prayers for a safe pregnancy/delivery. Don’t let anyone get you down during such a happy time (says the most overly-sensitive person ever). Take care! :)
