We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.
Tamara says
YAY! Congratulations to alll three of you! Hoping for a swift and safe delivery!
Sherry, I’m wondering how your pregnancy affects house projects you will and won’t take on? Either because you feel they are unsafe (fumes, heavy lifting etc.) or you’re uncomfortable. And is John going to take on more, or will your overall pace as a couple slow for a bit? Or do you have “nesting” urges and do even more?
I wanted to start lots of projects during my pregnancy, but I would get tired or distracted and lose steam. :)

Congrats, guys! Joining the million others who are so so happy for you all. Can’t wait to “meet” the new little bean in a few months. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

How wonderful! Congratulations to you all! We are expecting our fourth on May 1st, so I’m truly sympathizing with you, Sherry, esp. when it comes to ‘all day sickness’. So worth it though. I can’t believe what you’ve gotten done while so sick. Pretty impressive!

I think he will be okay though since he is such a cutie! Congratulations and just remember every pregnancy and BIRTH is different. I have had 3 and all have been nothing alike! Rest up and drink LOTs of water :)

I recently found out I am expecting a Rainbow next May after losing a sweet Angel this past May. Prayers for both of us and all the other brave women traveling the high- risk pregnancy road! I’ll be thinking of you through all the ultrasounds and non-stress tests!
Best wishes for your family!

The pitter-patter of little Petersik feet.
What JOYFUL news! Congratulations!
Have you had any weird cravings yet? (are Clara’s pickles safe? :) Has your favorite ice cream topping changed?
What is something you’d like to try with Bean Numero Dos that you didn’t get to try when Clara was a wee bean?
Do you already have some names you’re considering?
Will John be posting some wonderful pregnancy update infographics?
VV says
Well done!!! Congratulations!!!
You lot are one heck of an amazing family unit. Baby girl, fur baby, bun in the oven, you have a book, successful blog, fans all over the world, lighting range, John manages to exercise… I can’t even… how… ??
I really hope the pregnancy progresses well and without any concerns; really, really pray that you have a successful, as stress-less as possible, beautiful birth with only happy tears at the end :)
Anna says
Best wishes, sorry you have to deal with boundary issue people online..so annoying, but y’all are so classy about it!
I’m curious what types of stair projects you’ll be considering from a baby safety standpoint…both carrying baby and I guess guards when you have baby.
Also, will you be getting your bg elementals out again? I think the ones you had w Clara might be better than the “new elemental” I have 3 and have not found them to be absorbent enough…for a boy…the 4.0’s are great, but it can be a lot of stuffing.
Josh R says
So happy for you!!! Congrats!!

I just now got home after a LONG day at work to read this…
OMG CONGRATS!!! I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!
Sending prayers your way for a happy experience next April that you can joyfully share with us all. You need it and you deserve it.
BONUS: You get a 7 month break from people trying to play the baby bump guessing game!
I really am horrified at some of the comments I have seen in the past. For what it’s worth, as I was standing in line for hours at the Atlanta book signing on what felt like the coldest, most frigid toe-numbing day ever… there were SO MANY other people there and yet they were some of nicest, most friendly people I’d ever met. And this was despite the fact we were freezing our butts off, and many of us were tired after work plus still had to be at work early the next day. You have LOTS of true supporters out there that are friendly, caring people (and have lives/families/something better to do than an FBI investigation on your stomach) that want to see you happy and love your posts for advice/motivation/ideas. I just hope there are enough of us to negate the horrible, snarky commenters and make it worth your while to keep YHL going strong.
Lotsa <3 to you both!!
Roberta says
I totally love your blog and talk about you to my husband all the time (does that sound creepy?), I mean about ideas you have and things you do! And just wanted to say congrats, so happy for your fam and the lil bean!
Ellen says
I’m happy for your family, I understand how hard it must to be public but yet private. You do manage todo that well without coming off as fake like pioneer woman or dooce often do.
I sub thee “Most Authentically Real But Still Private Blog”
And I genuinely hope for a healthy baby and mama outcome. I look forward to seeing Clara’s responses.
Thank you for sharing- you’ve actually helped me with my 24 year old daughter and my relationship. Keeping keepin on!
Marie Kovarik says
Congratulations! I’m so happy for you guys. I have a couple of questions for your Q&A post. 1) What was Clara’s reaction? 2) How many are you having? I ask not because you look big, but because you never know. I’m also due in April, and I found out at my ultrasound that it’s twins.
Kate says
Such awesome news – and so cool you and your bff Katie B are pregnant together!
Sending awesome vibes for an uneventful 2nd and 3rd trimester, and a safe, easy delivery!

You know you are doing something or a lot of things right when some people are just hateful towards you.
“If you walk on sunlight, bathe in moonlight, breathe in a golden air and exhale a Midas’ touch; mark my words, those who exist in the shadows will try to pull you into the darkness with them. The last thing that they want is for you to see the wonder of your life because they can’t see theirs.”

Exciting news! Also read some of the old thread. As a late 40s mama of 4 who has recently had a slew of family photo ops, I think I might make photo shop my new best friend. Gonna embrace that little bit of technology. Thanks for the idea!

This is my second comment. I have another question. If you don’t want to answer it I completely understand. You are probably over all of the drama. I just saw your link back to some crazy comments about photoshopping your bump. I totally get why you did it. However, when mean people commented and bullied you why did you let their comments go up? Don’t you moderate comments for this reason? I’m not trying to be critical. I guess I’m just surprised you let this person post such hurtful things about you on your blog. Hang in there guys. I’m having twins and everyone (I mean everyone) asks “Are they natural?” Yes, my twins were conceived the good old fashioned way, but that’s none of your business. My goodness. I think social networking has deleted people’s filters.
YoungHouseLove says
After hearing this sentiment from so many of you guys today (both via comments and emails) we chatted over dinner and agree that you all have a good point. There’s definitely a difference between welcoming respectful and constructive disagreement and comments that are left solely to provoke others, be malicious, or distract from the purpose of this site. We’d never want people who come here for fun and encouragement (it’s only decorating!) to feel let down by any unnecessary drama, so we’re updating our comment policy. Thanks for your suggestions, guys!

YAY! Love your new comment policy.
This is your HAPPY place and I thank you for inviting me :)
Love ya!
GreenInOC says
What I notice is that people/sites who are interested in creating drama out of non-issues is that the blogger in question is berated for not letting critical comments post and then when the blogger does (like you guys do), let critical comments through, they are berated.
It’s a blogging “can’t win for losing” situation!
As a lover of the YHL, I can’t take too many of those crazy comments but I wonder if, as the authors of the blog, if it’s helpful at all when your fans offer support in reply to the looney tunes comments. I wonder if you just delete them and you are the only one that knows the craziness that is spewed, if it will gnaw at you more for lack of support? I wonder if it helps at all to share with the world the berserk feedback you have to deal with?
I’m just curious in a rhetorical kind of way and what ever way you choose to go I hope that it becomes more peaceful with these truly “controversial” subjects you chose to write about (<—— totally sarcastic about the controversy!)!!
I went back and read some of those comments about the photoshopping, couldn't take much of it, and I thought that you guys should write a book on blogging – you are truly professionals in this new territory!
Marie Kovarik says
I understand what GreenInOC is saying. When it comes to someone questioning you about a decorating choice, then by all means it could be worth posting to bring about good discussion. On the other hand, when it has to do with your unborn child I say be the mama bear and cut that person off! They are being malicious towards you personally just to be a jerk. Don’t put up with that crap. You don’t need it or deserve it. But no judgement whatever you decide to do. As you can see, almost everyone here supports you guys 100% and loves you!
Stefanie says
Here’s the thing about those comments….they’re made to get a reaction. When they get one they run back to whatever snarky forum they’re a member of, post a screen cap and then gloat about how they riled someone up. It’s just ammunition, fueling the fire..etc.
I say, and this is just my opinion, any comments that are clearly meant to bring controversy or are from repeat offenders just don’t get pushed through. Of course then there will be the “Oh look, John and Sherry didn’t approve my comment” remarks but oh well…who really cares?
This is YOUR blog and YOUR life. Blog about what you feel is right for your blog and for your family and screw the rest of it. If people have such an issue with the way you do things then they’re more than welcome to stop reading.
You guys are good people and I’m not some “fangirl”..I’m an adult who knows how to act like one. An adult who happens to really enjoy reading your updates and watching your family grow. I’ve seen you guys around town (Hobby Lobby, Short Pump mall, Children’s Museum…) and I’ve never once bothered you guys with “Oh hey..I KNOW YOU!” because I see you out with your daughter enjoying your much needed free time and I know that you guys deserve it and need it.
Keep doing your thing guys..it’s working.

It’s amazing what internet can do. I’m an architect from Brazil, love your blog and I’m so happy for you guys, just as I would be for a friend. Wish you guys all the very best, may God keeping on blessing this little family of yours!
