We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

Oh, yeah!! Congratulations!! Clara looks so, so cute!!! Well, really, you all look great! :o)

I KNEW IT!!!! Okay, I don’t know *how* I knew it, but a bit ago… umm… maybe a month or two? I had this *feeling* you were pregnant! I went to your site right away (as soon as I had the feeling) and looked, and I was like, “Huh… no announcement.” Ah well. They’ll tell us soon.
Why yes, I guess that makes me psychic. LOL. ;) SOOOOO cool! Congrats! Clara is just adorable. I have so enjoyed watching her grow on your blog. :-) My first visit to your blog was the day you revealed her nursery. I will never forget it. :D
Mari says
Ahh jeez you two! I’m hoping those awful comments didn’t spoil the fun of revealing your big news today. Truth is, you guys owe us NOTHING! You’re fantastic home bloggers, witty and charming and creative and inspiring and all that jazz! The fact that you allow us to peek into other aspects of your life (key word – allow) is just a happy bonus! Your shiz is yours to share, IF and WHEN you choose, and not because we are entitled to it. Just keepin it real. ;)
Haters gon’ hate. I for one say thank you for sharing, and wish you the best during this exciting time in your lives!

Woo Hoo. I was just thinking about this yesterday. I must be Psychics
Congrats guys.
Angie says
Congrats!! I’m excited to see what you do with the nursery. I’ll say it- I didn’t notice any photoshopping in that previous post. Guess I didn’t look close enough. Or, I just respect that you do have a private life and that you don’t publish everything for the world to read. Yeah, definitely the second one. Here’s to a quick and uneventful 6 more months. And hoping the all day sickness goes away.
Dee says
This is so fantastic, congratulations! What’s really weird though is that I dreamt I met Clara last night and was so excited to meet her and as soon as I woke up my bestie texted me asking if I’ve seen YHL!? Some sort of weird premonition thing? #ithinknot haha congrats again!
Lindsey G says
Congrats you two! I hope you enjoy this and photoshop your face in for good measure. Sent this to a friend last night. You were on par with Jen Aniston for “Is she or isn’t she?” questioning. :-) finally you can confront the tabloids aka blog community!! http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/3995493

SO SO SO SO happy for all of you!! Thank you for being open to sharing this very special news with your readers. I wish you nothing but happiness in the days, weeks, months and years ahead!

PS – glad to see that you’re planning to update your comment policy. This blog is so fun & happy….. Meanies need not apply!
Kristi says
Congratulations!!! How exciting!! And, I am so sorry people can be so incredibly rude. I followed the link to the photoshop conversation and was floored at how terrible people can be. I love how open and honest you guys are and that you do share parts of your life with those of us on the internet who you have never met. As someone who’s been married almost 6 years and is creeping up on her 30th birthday, I can totally relate to people asking about when we’re going to have kids. I understand and it’s no big deal, but when they keep pushing, it gets hurtful- my husband and I would love to sit down and talk about starting a family, but he has serious health issues that would make having a baby a poor decision right now. Hounding us about having kids is a reminder of how we can’t have a baby like we’d like to because my husband is very sick.
YoungHouseLove says
Oh Kristi, I’m so sorry to hear about your husband’s illness. Sending you lots of love (and hope that those comments simmer down).

I have been reading since the beginning of your second house and feel like you are MY family. Sherry’s (and Clara and John’s too) birth story and your blog helped me through a rough post-partum. Your writing and sense of humor, and beautiful decorating ideas keep me coming back to see what you are up to everyday. I am so happy for your family and wish you nothing but the best!
Kim says
Ahh so much love and happiness being sent your way! Thank you for sharing something so special with your readers! How did you tell Clara and is she excited to have a little brother or sister?
Regarding the childish comments….Bravo to you guys, I am sure it is hard to sit back and watch people judge your choices but you both handle it so well And with much class. MAD PROPS to John for his choice words regarding the nasty comments on the “day in the life post” – you should not have to even adress these comments but his protection of you and your family is so sweet! ???
Congrats again, SO excited to see what the future holds for your sweet family :)
Ps: I hear peppermint does wonders for morning sickness – hope it passes soon :)

GREAT NEWS. Congratulations and safe travels on the road to meet your new addition!
I have not read though comment threads in quite awhile but just skimmed tonight. I have to once again congratulate you on your grace with critics. Aesthetic based work always lends itself to opinion. Blogging about it is your work, which opens up a much more personal level, the opinions take a new dynamic. Congratulations on this as well.

Congratulations you guys! You are such a sweet and classy family. I hope all goes well for you and that you feel better soon, Sherry!

Congratulations!
I am so overjoyed for your family that my first instinct is to bake you some celebratory cookies and go shopping for some cute onesies, but then I remembered that I am a stranger from the internet and I need to take it down a notch. You, however, do not need to take it down a notch. Live it up, Petersiks!
Kate says
Congrats! I don’t know you from Adam but I’d like to thank you both for sharing/choosing those particular photos. Clara’s ear-to-ear smile is beyond precious and so catching. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling back.
Cheers to you and yours!

CONGRATULATIONS!! So happy for you guys :) My question is: Are you planning on doing the monthly photos the same way with #2? As a 3rd child I am very sensitive to things dropping off after the first (dang half-blank baby book) ;)
Can’t wait to see how this adds to your lives!
Mia says
Woohoo! Congrats. I’m sorry that there were people that couldn’t be patient and wait for the revelation. Guessing they’re very annoying in a movie theater as well. I personally cannot wait until you surprise us over and over until spring. I love the fact that you guys share so much of your personal life with us and I hope you guys always give us a small taste of your family. Fingers crossed you feel better Sherry and fingers crossed for all that the end goes smoother this time around. Super exciting news!
Leigh says
I am soooo excited for you guys!! Babies are such a blessing. Congratulations! Wishing you a healthy and uneventful pregnancy :)

I think I congratulated you earlier (I hope the comment went through) but I just wanted to check back in because I saw (on facebook) there was some silly drama going on over here about you photoshopping your baby bump. I know that one hurtful comment can overshadow 10 positive ones so I just wanted to add one more positive comment to hopefully help get those snarky ones out of your mind. I’ve been following y’all since your first house and think you do an amazing job sharing your lives with us. Thanks for all you do, please keep private whatever you choose in whatever way you choose, and I’ll continue to enjoy what parts you share. Thanks for having such an awesome blog that I look forward to reading every day!

Yaheee! congrats to you both!! The pics are TOO cute!!
On a separate note, I thought of John when I saw this because I watched his video of many failed attempts on this lol

Hope the link helps! Y’all will really be busy now with another little one on the way lol
I’m in awe of how y’all do it all!!*Although I did see the “day in a life” post! wow! lol

So sorry that even a tiny bit of joy had to be sucked out of sharing this with us! But I hope that you can feel the love from the 99% of us who are normal who read your blog. Thanks for sharing. We know you don’t have to. But you do, and that makes your blog what it is, and is one of the reasons you are so successful.
Prayers for a healthy pregnancy. I am so happy you get to experience the miracle of another baby. Much love!

CONGRATS!!!! I am so happy for your all! Thank you for sharing this wonderful news!
I’m sorry that you are dealing with horrible morning sickness – I hope that it passes soon! I had horrible nausea and vomiting until week 20 of my pregnancy and I remember wondering if it would last for the entire pregnancy when it stuck around after the first trimester but thankfully I woke up one morning and it was gone – the day before Thanksgiving actually (so don’t lose hope if you are still spending most of the day huddled over the toilet). I was so thankful to be able to chow down on Thanksgiving dinner. Hang in there! I will be sending nausea free thoughts your way! :)
And again, congratulations!!!! YOu look absolutely gorgeous!
Theresa says
WOW, SO excited for you! Congratulations!
I saw all the comments on the other post about photoshoping/sucking it in a what not. I just want to say that you guys are so graceful and polite and amazing. I remember the post Sherry wrote about actually NOT asking her “are you pregnant yet?” I just wanted to say that I completely understand where you are coming from. We have been trying to conceive a 2nd baby for about 2 years now and I hear it almost daily… not only is it obnoxious, but it can be so hurtful. PLEASE people, don’t ask women when they will have another baby. Women don’t go around saying “when are you going to buy a new house?” or “when are you going to get a better job?” It’s just rude.
Love you guys, can’t wait for everything. xoxo
YoungHouseLove says
I’m so sorry Theresa! I can’t imagine. Thinking of you and your family.

Dearest John and Sherry,
I already left a congratulatory comment, but having read the terrible things that were mentioned about the photo shopped picture I just wanted to also convey how sorry I am that, that happened to you.
My husband and I lost our first pregnancy last fall and when we found out this June that we were expecting, we held off telling ANYONE for quite some time. You both do your best to be upfront and honest as often as possible, and especially in this situation you absolutely deserve privacy.
I truly hope that those people who left rude comments never have to understand what it is like to feel your beautiful child growing inside you, while also not knowing for certain if you will soon meet them. It is a difficult, emotional time in which we cling to hope and in my case, my faith. I am so thrilled to be able to watch your bump grow with my own and I will absolutely be praying for you all and your beautiful bean! Congratulations again!
Love
Allie

ahhh!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! So many April babies next year! My husband and I are expecting our first baby, also due in April!! Such an exciting time :o) Clara will surely be an amazing big sister!
Sarah says
Yay baby! Congrats!! I’m expecting too (due in march :) I waited until the 2nd trimester to tell also, and it really made me sad that some folks were super snarky to me about not telling sooner. Like give a girl a minute, right? I know its not the same bc you’re on a much larger stage but just wanted to say I feel ya!
Elizabeth says
Congrats! I’m also due in April, with my first. And hubby and I are currently renovating our bathroom, like you two were doing when pregnant with Clara. I hope your morning sickness gets better soon, Sherry! I’ve finally gotten over the 24/7 nausea, but I’m still not feeling quite right as rain yet in the tummy department. Oy, pregnancy symptoms. ammiright?

CONGRATS!!!
You and Katie B. on the same schedule again :) Was she excited too??

Wonderful news! Congratulations and may I be the first to start a new line of nagging questions? When will you start decorating the nursery? :) I know we all can’t wait to see that begin.

Congratulations from Maldives. Wishing you a happy pregnancy and a smooth delivery.
Carin says
First, CONGRATS!!! Second, how did you tell Clara? We won’t be ready for number two for awhile, but I want to make telling my son he will have a brother/sister super special, so I am curious if you came up with some clever way to do it. Third, how sweet would it be for you to have a little boy and Katie Bower to get her little girl, and you guys will have ANOTHER adorable ‘couple’.
And I just wanted to share that when we had our ultrasound to find out the sex, we had the doctor right the gender down and put it in a sealed envelope. We took that to our favorite bakery and they made a cake that had pink and blue flowers on the outside, but they dyed the inner layers of frosting pink or blue based on the gender. We got together with our family the next day, had a wonderful dinner, then my husband and I cut open the cake to reveal the gender. It was a wonderful memory – and I have the doctors note framed on my son’s wall. Just wanted to share in case you were looking for a special way to find out your bean’s gender :)

Best news. Beaming -mad-smile news. Huge congrats to all of you and here’s hoping that all day sickness buggers off shortly. Bring on April!! x

Not knowing people in real life has little impact on how excited I am for you and your family. Seriously, I don’t think I’d be more excited if my own sister was having a baby! Congratulations to the Proud Pregnant Petersik’s!

So excited for your family. My sister and I were exchanging…”did you see YHL? AHHHHHHHHHHHH!” e-mails today. It is so funny to be so excited for a family that you have never met. Thanks for sharing your home and life with us. :D

Congratulations! What exciting news for your family. I am only a few weeks behind you (due early May), and am also feeling sick for almost the entire day. Wondering if you have any advice or tips on keeping the morning sickness at bay? Have you found anything that works?
BTW I really love reading your blog and enjoy both of your humor and wit :)
