We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

I am so happy for all of you. I have to say though I am especially happy for Clara because being a big sister is one of the biggest blessings in my life. I hope she loves it as much as I do :)
Flickster says
Have been quietly hoping you guys would have another baby! You seem like such wonderful parents to Clara.
Best wishes from Australia
Kathryn says
This is fantastic–you bring so much happiness to so many people! Clara is beautiful, and her new baby brother or sister is a lucky little tyke. You guys rock!
Joanna says
I am so excited for you!! Praying for a healthy and smooth pregnancy and delivery! How did you tell Clara? And your parents? Will you start working on the nursery right away? Can’t wait to follow along on this journey! Thank you both so much for being brave and sharing despite the risks and the haters. Just know your fans love you and far outweigh the haters.
Brianna says
2 things:
First, congratulations! I’m so happy for you guys.. how crazy is that to be so happy for a stranger?
Second, I think it’s great you guys kept it hidden for so long, and wouldn’t blame if you went longer. You’ve both handled all the speculation around having another child so well.
My son is almost 2, and we’re starting to get questions more frequently about when we’ll have another child. For a lot of (medical/financial/other) reasons, we don’t know when will be a good time to have another child, let alone if we’ll be able to have another child, or whether we’ll adopt instead. And, I have to say, your lovely way of handling intrusive questions is what inspires me when I get the questions about when we’ll have another. Thanks for being a model of grace.

Congratulations! So happy for you all!

Overjoyed for you all.
Congratulations, and may you have a very uneventful pregnancy and delivery!
How are you feeling, Sherry? (And so cool on the timing! You are going to miss all of the super hot weather while very pregnant! Woot! That’s always the first thing my mama would think of when people announced their pregnancies, having grown up in a hot climate.)

Even though this comment will land on page 60 (60!) of more than 3,000 comments, I love the fact that you will in fact see it. It’s one of the reasons why I adore your blog.
I’ve tried (with some success and failures) some of your tips. I first found your blog via Pinterest, while pregnant and searching for green walled nurseries. From there I found your other nursery posts, which inspired me to remove the doors from my nursery closet, paint her changing table dresser, and make something pretty to hang above it for her to look at.
My baby is now 16 months old, so I’m shocked to say that I’ve been reading for 2 years now! Feels like yesterday. I just want to say that even though you don’t know me, I’ll probably never know you, and though I’m just a voice in thousands, congratulations and thank you. It takes great strength to put yourself out there every day, and you both do it with such grace.
Congratulations and here’s to a completely uneventful 6 more months!

Congrats YHL!!!! We are pregnant too right now and our little “peanut” (as my 5th grade students have dubbed him/her as is right around 13.5 weeks right now. I’m high risk too because I have Type 1 Diabetes, but we got to hear the heartbeat a few days ago and it sounded amazing. Anyways, I will keep reading your blog (as always!), and be on the look out for baby room ideas and crafty DIY projects. Have a great one and congrats again! :-)
Margaret says
Also hear hear on the updated comment policy! I read that string and thought it was ridiculous. For those who felt “duped”. I think you are a little silly and dramatic. You are not on Dowager Countess! It’s a home improvement blog! Who cares? If you photoshopped your belly out because you secretly smuggle beanie babies under your shirt, all I want to know is when you’re gonna paint dat railing. Seriously, when are you? I want to know. But I’m so happy you feel you want to share your news with us. That’s what’s so great about you guys!
Kristen says
I can’t be the only person giggling over the thought of Sherry smuggling Beanie Babies around under her shirt.

Congrats! Just so you know, if it were me, I would feel like the “was this one planned” question is a little too personal for me, so if you choose not to answer that one, I would support you…for what it’s worth. But I am curious to know how you told Clara. Also, is part of you hoping for a boy, just from a decorating perspective? ‘Cause I know that I would love the second to be a different gender from the first, just so I could have fun with the alternate color schemes…though my husband reminds me that it would be cheaper to have two of the same gender so we can reuse everything. Practical man!

When I first started to read this blog Clara was recently born, and I was pregnant! Now we’re both pregnant at the “same” time…
At home, someone is also going to be a little sister of a João (Portuguese name for John)…
Do you already know if it’s a girl bean or a boy bean?
The all day sickness is really bad! Fortunately for me, those days are gone!
Xoxo.
Nicole says
WHOA!! Congratulations! You’re so incredibly brave to be trying for another bean after what happened with Clara but it’s all going to be worth it. I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed that you have an uneventful non months. Is there anything that your doctor’s can do to prevent what happened last time or at least monitor or minimize the risk?
What has been your most and least favorite symptoms so far? Have you had any crazy dreams? How do you plan on prepping Clara for a little sibling?
I’m due with my first right in between you and Katie (March 27th). The geeky blog girl in me is so so very excited about this. Can we start a weekly series? Maybe Sisterhood of the Traveling Maternity Pants?

Our daugther, Lucile, is born the 15 may 2010, so we have seen Lucile and Clara becoming youngs ladies during three years and groing up in the same time.
We just had a baby boy this 14 of september, we wish you and Clara the same joy.
Have a good and safe pregnancy.
Take care.
