We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.
Jessie says
Congratulations, guys!!! I was so excited for you two (and Clara and Burger too!). Enjoy this special time, J & S <3

Congratulations again! i forgot my question the first time i commented, so here it is! My question: How are Clara’s old cloth diapers holding up? I know you stuck with neutral colors so they could be used again. Did they stay in good condition for reuse, or will you have to replace some? Just curious!
Janice says
Congratulations to the three of you…and Burger, too!

What a tremendous blessing! Congrats to you all. Now, can’t wait to see what you have in store for the soon-to-be nursery.

I’m so happy for you all. I will be praying for a perfectly normal pregnancy. I was going to say normal and boring, but that could never happen! Congratulations!

Congratulations to the whole family, and special honors to John on his bouncing baby bean burrito.
Jennifer says
Congrats! Looks like we will be getting a baby room post coming up. ;)
Jill says
Babies are such a blessing! Many congratulations to you! Saying a prayer for a healthy pregnancy and labor/delivery!
Question: In real life, did you guys ever come close to “spilling the bean” before you were ready to tell? Did family/friends ever guess or make comments before you shared the news? :)
Katie says
I just have one question….is this the secret “project” you guys are working on?!!! Just kidding, and congratulations!
Tyra says
Omigosh! I’m so excited for you guys!
Many congratulations to you all!
LeAnn B says
WooHoo!! Congrats to you guys! A baby is such a special blessing. Hope the pregnancy goes smoothly!
Makayla says
How come you don’t just remove and not respond to the people who ask about the state of your womb? It really is no ones business and I know how rude it is to be asked constantly about it.
That said, I’m so excited for you and hope that everything goes smoothly this time. I have complicated pregnancies as well and it is so frightening and nightmare inducing to have to deal with that on top of normal pregnancy frustrations.
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Makayla! After hearing this sentiment from so many of you guys yesterday (both via comments and emails) we chatted over dinner and agree that you all have a good point. There’s definitely a difference between welcoming respectful and constructive disagreement and comments that are left solely to provoke others, be malicious, or distract from the purpose of this site. We’d never want people who come here for fun and encouragement (it’s only decorating!) to feel let down by any unnecessary drama, so we’re updating our comment policy. Thanks for your suggestion!

Wishing your family Love, Luck, Health, Prosperity, Happiness and every other good thing you’d like to throw in there! Don’t know if it will help Sherry, but I used to swear by Cherios or Oyster crackers when I felt queasy. It helped to just have a few to settle my stomach a bit.
Big hugs to all!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks for the nausea tips guys! I’m desperate. I’ll try anything!

Also, I had a baby a little bit before Prince George was born. I hope she marries him. :) Are you hoping for the same thing?

Hooray!!! Congrats! I’m so excited for you all!! Clara is beaming. Sherry you are glowing…and John, well John has the burrito bump going on…lol.
Having read through the last five years of your blog/life around Christmas, the story of Clara’s birth still stands out to me. Sherry, you are my hero for being ready for bean-o #2!!
and, ps. extra excitement to read that mean comments will be removed!! hoorah for that! You deserve to blog without the snarkies.
Leah says
Yay! As someone who is pregnant for the first time, I am really excited to see that my favorite bloggers are also pregnant! Would you consider posting about your preparation for baby? This would really help all the overwhelmed mothers to be out there (myself especially!)!

Congratulations!

Congratulations! I am so happy for you guys and hope that one or two small-minded people didn’t do anything to tarnish your joy. I think that most people who read your blog are probably as much in love with your family as they are with your DIY skills. Thanks for sharing your wonderful news with us and allowing us to be a part of your lives.

Congratulations Petersiks!!!
I’m so so excited for you guys and for Clara to be a big sister! And for burger to be a big brother again of course too :)
I defintely got a little teary eyed when I read the news, may have been just finding out the day before that I’m also expecting!
Happy tears for you! Can’t wait to see what having another little one means for the projects you do too!
Congrats!
Bonnie says
Congrats guys!
I have a question for Friday: What kind of projects does Sherry have to avoid while pregnant, and which ones can she still do?
Patricia says
CONGRATULATIONS! What a beautiful picture of Clara! She looks so grownup!

YAY!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Yay Big Sister Clara!
It’s funny–I’ve been reading through your blog archives (yes, from the beginning!). It’s great because I just got married and we’re poised to rent our first house, and I’m so excited to try out the things I’ve been learning.
/side note. Anyway, I’ve been watching your family grow in fast-forward and Clara shoot up like the little bean she is and (not to put the crazy people pressure on) hoping we’d get to “meet” another little Petersik in due time. I love babies!
I hope it’s a fear-denying, beautiful pregnancy from here on out. Luck and prayers go with you!

I am so happy for your whole family. Following your blog is such a joy for this grandmother of 5! I am only near half of them, well 60%, and it makes me feel like part of a whole other family. And, I love all of the home related stuff. Have bookmarked so many things as I know they will help me with future DIY’s. So, anyway, congratulations and do keep us posted and don’t worry about the weirdos who need to know your private stuff. That is just wrong!
Prayers and happiness to you all!

Congratulations you three (and Burger too!)!!!
So sorry you’ve been sick, Sherry. I was terribly sick with my 3rd last Spring – it’s like having the stomach flu for 17 weeks straight – ugh. I sincerely hope you’re feeling better and wish you only the best as the pregnancy progresses! So happy for you!

I am sooooo happy for you guys. I am in awe of the way you deal with the questions and comments thrown at you, and the way you retain your dignity and repose! I am a very new follower of your blog, but have loved it from the first click! We found out a couple of weeks ago we’re in the same position, but not at general-public-awareness-time yet, but it’s so hard to keep it from the folks you love, isn’t it?! Congrats. Xxx

Congratulations to the whole family!! Clara looks so excited :) Wishing you a safe, healthy and happy pregnancy and delivery…
I love reading your decorating adventures and I can’t wait to see how you do up the nursery in your new house.

Sincere C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S !!!!!
I know you will be amazed at how much help Clara will be to you Sherry. My two boys were 6 years apart, and the eldest was my best, most willing and even most capable in many respects, all around helper.
Some of my fondest memories of raising those two youngins was the first year of my youngest’s life … filled with clear flashes of watching my sons as their love for each other became, words fail me here, well you will see. The bond between siblings is an amazing wonder for a mother to be blessed with and facinating to the heart and soul to observe. My favorite pictures of the boys are of them together as the eldest helped the youngest with every step in his baby to toddler development. Yup the eldest gets mighty attached, and falls in love with THEIR baby sister/brother.
Clara, like her Mom, is a take charge ‘go getter’. A whirlwind of energy, intelligence. curiosity and LOVE. A giving heart, all of which you both are to be commended on. She will be running the household by the time newest bean is a year old. You see, that is HER sibling…and that pretty much says it all. This time Dad.. you too will have a helper at your side when it comes to anything pertaining to Mom and the New Bean.
I had a horrific first pregnancy, apscar zero. Diciey for both of us.3 day nightmare, 48 hours, wrong side up to boot. Second one? A breeze, and I too was considered high risk, and second came out wrong side up too, but WHOLE DIFFERENT BALLGAME. Ten hours for the second one, which felt like maybe three. After the first, well this one will be so much easier and you will be so much stronger after birth as well.
You are in a great place to get any specialized care you WON’T need. You were smartly aprehensive the early years after Clara was born. So was I.I remember. Also I remember the moment I KNEW I was pregnant and I swear I willed it to be so, I was READY. As you are NOW.
You have given your body plenty of time to re-balance itself. You are physically fit (my GOD that hardwood pick up and delivery!) and psyche wise obviously ready, more knowledgeable and capable as you have matured (so has your reproductive system). You have waited a proper amount of time, you WILL be fine, period.
LISTEN NOT JUST TO YOUR DEVOTED HUBBY AND OBGYN…but to your body as well. Rest, eat well, drink lots of fluids and remember the only stupid question is the one you didn’t ask… You, dear ‘little’ Sherry, are going to be one happy preggie. LET people do things for you. Let yourself be spoiled a bit. Make a point of it.
All the Nursery plans …well simply looking forward to all you two are doing.. but a Nursery? I imagine you might get QUITE a bit of stuff in the mail from many of your devoted longtime follower ‘friends’ that truly care deeply for all of you. Just a thought….register somewhere and let us know exactly what you wish for the baby bean.
Otherwise you will be inundated with lots of things all size 0. Trust me, ALL those young women who are so devoted to you, your creativity, wit and charm and hilarious photo faces,….well they will be UNDONE if they can’t send SOMETHING …..and they will want to PLEASE YOU WITH THEIR GIFTS.
My GOODNESS I am sooooo happy for all of you! A B A B Y! To think just the other day I was looking forward to the bathroom redo… heck with that, it works and looks great as is. NURSERY PLANS…. WE WANT TO HEAR THEM? ANYTHING!
God Bless All of you, … Nanny Rishia

Congratulations! And I do hope you take John’s advice and try REALLY hard to enjoy your pregnancy even though you will understandably be super nervous the whole time. My sister lost her first baby one week after I had just realised I was pregnant with my second. Even though my first pregnancy was pretty much by the book and all wonderful, I spent the whole second pregnancy half in a panic that I was going to lose the baby like my sister, and half feeling guilty for enjoying the pregnancy when I managed to forget about it. My sister had realised that her baby had stopped moving when she was 5 days over, so I spent my whole pregnancy poking my poor baby to make sure she was still kicking, then had her induced the day after she was due because I couldn’t bear to go over. No wonder she is a terrible sleeper now. All good now and my sister managed to keep calm herself and now has two lovely and very lively children. I’m pretty sure she poked hers continuously too though. Don’t poke you baby (well maybe just a little…) He/She will be fine!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh Jen, I’m so sorry for your families loss. It’s great to hear that you both had healthy children afterwards.

Congrats!!!! You two are already such wonderful parents and I know your newest addition will be so blessed to join your family! I am currently pregnant with my first and due April 7th!! I have to say the rude comments are relentless on my end so I hope they aren’t twice as bad on your side! My least favorite question and somehow most frequently asked is “was this planned?”… just crazy! Wishing y’all FIVE the best!
Laura says
Congrats on the big news! My question for ya’ll: Does your individual health insurance cover maternity? I’m self-employed (have been for over 7 years) and my insurance covered maternity with my first….but the policy has since changed and maternity is NOT covered as of last year. I opted to have a natural birth with a midwife at a birth center so my expenses were very minimal even though they were paid out of pocket almost 2 years ago. Would love to hear how other self-employed mommas plan pregnancy and birth — financially and “maternity leave” wise. I was back at work the day after giving birth–no maternity leave for me. BUT, I do get to work from home with my little guy every day. So totally worth it!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yes, we have paid an extra $70 a month for the “maternity rider” just because with my complicated first pregnancy we never wanted to find ourselves unexpectedly pregnant without coverage!

Congratulations!! A second child is exponentially more work but endless fun. As a mom of two I can say that I love seeing my oldest as a big sister and I love the way my son looks at his big sister with admiration and love. Being a mom is the best! Wishing you a healthy and happy pregnancy. YAY for more adorable babies!!

Congratulations to you! Best wishes for your pregnancy!

How unfortunate that people feel so shielded by the internet that they can make these sort of searing comments to you two…though it is most likely they would never say those things in person, in “real life”. My mind has been wandering back to some of the comments I read on here yesterday…my heart goes out to you and Sherry for having those types of things laid in your lap by highly insensitive and audacious people. I commend you for not simply hitting the “delete” button, and still allowing those people to have a voice – it is very fair of you…though I’m not sure I would be as benevolent.
Congratulations on your news, you sweet family, you! I have been following you since your first house days, and it only gets better and better. Much love to you five!
