We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.
Andrea says
Congratulations on your expanding family!
Christina says
Hooray!!! Congratulations!!!! What a gift!!!!! Best gift you can give your child is a sibling. Your children are so blessed to have each other!
Joseph says
Congratulations! We’re waiting to greet our second right now! I’m happy for you guys and hope you have a safe and enjoyable (as much as it can be) pregnancy.
Katy says
Clara looks like a kid now. How is it I find that almost as depressing as my own child growing? Congrats on baby #2.
Deborah says
A Baby! What splendid good news. Best wishes to you all.
Meghan says
So happy for all of you… and myself b/c I get to follow along. I’m excited to see what you name this bean (yeah, I’m jumping the gun a bit). I just really love the name Clara Kenley and can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
All I can say about the photoshopping fiasco is… wow, people can get pretty riled up… I’m glad you updated your comment policy.
Sherry, here’s to smooth sailing for the rest of your pregnancy! xoxo
Sarah W. says
I’m sure you guys are sick by now of approving comments from yesterday, but I just wanted to say congratulations and that I totally support the fact that you waited to tell until you were ready.
It’s becoming very common for couples to wait until after three months, even if they’ve never experienced any complications. I’ve known people who have had fertility and pregnancy problems so I understand that it can be a very anxious first few months.
It sucks that there are people in the world who think it’s okay to harass someone about extremely personal issues just because they’re in the public eye. You are already so generous in sharing your lives with us, and so many of your readers are grateful for it.
As Miley says, “Forget the haters, cause somebody loves ya”!
Leslie says
Question for you: Do you think you’ll need to get a babysitter/nanny to help out once B#2 is here, or some kind of assistant for the blog upkeep? I don’t know how you guys do it all, even with just 1 kid!
Michelle says
Congratulations! I was thinking you could be pregnant – but in a fun (keep it to myself) way, not a stalker-ish, examine each photo kind of way (what the …???).
You guys are so inspiring. To know yourselves so well, to be able set boundaries, yet still be positive and fun each day. I love it. I am in my forties and wish I had known myself so well at your age and stage of life.
You will be in our prayers for a safe pregnancy and delivery and a healthy baby!

I feel so privileged to have discovered your blog and now be a part of your happy news!! Congratulations, Darlings!!! x

Hold on to your hats!!! Congratulations!

So excited for your family! I am anxiously awaiting the possibility of myself baking a bean but for now I just eat burritos too! :) I can’t wait to see how you dream up a nursery for your new home :) Congratulations!!
Katie says
Yea!! What stage of this adventure will you start sharing nursery pictures?!
Kristen says
I’m anxious to hear any name suggestions from Clara!!!! Congratulations!!!!

I so seldom comment on any posts but this one has my heart! I am so excited for you guys and actually teared up a little. I stumbled upon your blog about 5 years ago when I was planning my wedding (go figure that that’s what led me to you guys!) and have been with you daily ever since. I talk about you guys and your blog so much that now when I mention it to my husband or mom I just say “John and Sherry” rather than “John and Sherry from that blog, Young House Love” and they know that I am referring to you guys. I am so so so happy to continue to watch your sweet family grow! How fun to also be pregnant with your best friend!
Shanna says
I had to laugh when I read this post. It’s rare to meet another Shanna and then when I read the comment it was quite surreal. I too stumbled on the blog when I was planning my wedding 5 years ago. Small YHL world we live in :)
Nicole says
are you going to do the weekly photos with the new baby too? Are you going to find out the sex?
Kimberly says
Congratulations!! :D
Please tell me you’ll be using that fabric again. It’s gorgeous!

Well golly gosh, I am tickled. Actually, I am beyond the moon for your family and especially Clara…siblings are great! You are my now my 3 favorite blogger family to be expecting–I cannot wait to watch the bump grow and especially see you decorate yet another nursery.
We are all rooting for you here in Chicago, and will continue to pray for healthy pregnancy! This is one lucky baby.
Heartfelt Congrats from my family to yours.

Congratulations!!!!! So excited for you all!

My first big smile of the day! Congratulations on the baby bump!! I could feel my face lighting up. (Kinda like this =D) Then it occurred to me that I hardly even know you guys, but there you have it…(sniffle!) you’ve become a part of my world. Thank you for having the courage to keep at it despite all the nasties out there. Wishing you blessings and hope you have a safe and happy bean baking,er, good time! (Gosh, I have a lot to learn if I want to start a blog!) ;D
Celia says
Congratulations Sherry and John. That is such exciting news. Thanks for sharing and hope that you feel better in the next trimester, Sherry.
Lisa says
Woo hoo! So excited for you all. We are 14 weeks pregnant ourselves, and I can think of nothing better than expecting at the same time as Young House Love! Make sure to do plenty of posts about every aspect of your plans for the little bean! I still haven’t forgotten the steal of a crib you found for Clara!

Interesting yesterday’s post title: It’s….time, Baby. Foreshadowing of good things to come :-)

I am so excited for you guys!! Now you can get some use of that nursery ;) I can’t wait to see the little bundle of joy in April! Congrats!
Sapphira says
Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited for you guys!!! When I read this post I literally jumped out of my seat and yelled “Sherry’s pregnant!!!!” to my boyfriend and we high-fived. This might sound a little (a lot?) crazy but I’ve been saying to him for the past couple of months that I had a feeling Sherry was pregnant. I get these crazy hunches about people being pregnant. Nothing to do with weight or anything, I just get a vibe (I’ve gotten these hunches about three people I work with in the past two years and they all turned out to be pregnant), so I guess you could say I belong in a circus act. Haha! P.S. I never ask if somebody is pregnant, I always wait for them to announce it. Not exactly polite to ask what’s in people’s uteruses (uterusi?). I can’t wait to see how the future nursery comes along! Will you do the weekly photos again once baby bean comes? I vote yes!
Sapphira says
And of course I’m wishing y’all a safe and healthy pregnancy and delivery!
Rotem says
Congratulation! Babies are such a blessing :)
What do you think you’ll do differently with baby #2, now that you’ve been through raising a baby once? Stricter sleep schedule? More/less outings in first few months? When it comes to the actual daily activities of caring for a baby what are the lessons that caring for Clara taught you?
And Are you going to do weekly pregnancy and first year photo shoots?
Ah, so excited for your family!!
Cortney says
I am so, so incredibly happy for you guys! I’m due May 23…there will be six years between my daughter and this one. (I had the difficult delivery, too, and waiting seemed legit.) I’ll be excited to see what you pull together for a nursery! lol
Jessica says
Congratulations! For your Q&A post I would love to hear if this post got more traffic than any post you’ve done before! It sure looks like it with all the comments!
Amanda says
I don’t comment much, and after reading an example of your day, I feel bad adding to the bazillion comments you have to read/approve, but I have to say congratulations to you! We welcomed our second baby in March, and he is almost 4 years younger than our first. I was nervous about the age difference (that they would be too far apart), but it’s worked out wonderfully so far. She can dress herself, etc, which is super helpful, and she is conscious of when he is upset or needs something, and she runs to sing to him or help. Older sisters are very caring, and I’m sure Clara will be a super star. Best of luck with the pregnancy. Hope your morning sickness subsides soon, though it’s a sign of a healthy pregnancy! Best wishes.
Stephen says
Congratulations! May you have a sweet and blessed child. Thank you for sharing this very special moment in time.
Shanna says
Congratulations!! Looks like you’ve got a busy year ahead of you. Sherry, I’m glad you’re at least settled into your new home and have plenty of relatively easy painting projects you can work on when you’re feeling up to it. “Morning” sickness is the pits. I hope for a happy healthy pregnancy and delivery for you (I have a feeling it will be).
Jenny says
Woo hoo!!!! So very happy for you all!
Amanda says
First of all…MANY CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WHOLE FAMILY! Awesome news!
Also, you and Katie B. are pregnant together again. Exciting!
My question is this: how did you know it was the right time for you to add on to your family? I had a similar high risk pregnancy with my first child and, while I know we’re not ready to expand just yet, I’m always curious about how anyone knows they’re ready for a second (or third or fourth, etc.) Will be praying for an uneventful pregnancy and delivery for you!
LeighS says
Congratulations! I may be too late to get a question answered in your Friday post, but I was wondering if you have any “tricks” for helping with pregnancy sickness? And, was your sickness the same as with Clara, or has this time around been different? I was sick during my whole pregnancy with my 10 month old. I am hoping that doesn’t mean each pregnancy would be the same (he was my first and I had already quit working so I could lay around A LOT)! I worry about future pregnancy sickness with a toddler in the house. I can’t imagine having projects to tackle and getting settled in a new house!
I was trying to read back over your comments to see if this question had already been asked, but I stopped after seeing some of the horrible comments from your “day in the life” post. I am sure you and John had a lot to chat about over dinner last night! Best wishes!

This is going to sound so strange…. but I KNEW ya’ll were expecting about two weeks ago. I had a dream about it! It’s a family trait for some reason the ladies in my family always dream about pregnancies! Enough about our weird ESP though. CONGRATS!
Karen says
Woo! I’m due in April too! Which is awesome because you always have great decorating ideas, and since we will be revamping the nursery and moving our 1-year-old twins into big girl beds, I need all the help I can get!

I’m one of your very few 40 year old readers…I guess I am just young and hip at heart! Actually…I just love renovating…Haha! My 15 year old daughter loves to hear about Clara…so she was also very excited and happy about your new baby news! It’s funny how even though we really don’t know you…you really do feel like our distant family. Congrats. So happy for you.
Holly says
Congratulations, Youngsters! This is wonderful news.
Michelle (aka mybelle101) says
I’m so excited for you guys!! I’d been hoping that Clara’s birth experience hadn’t scared you completely off having other kids (and it sounded like it hadn’t), but also would have understood if that was the case! Praying you have a healthy, happy pregnancy!
Also, as a side note, WOW…I went to the post after seeing someone ask about the “day in the life” picture (who notices those things?), and I have to say that I’m very sorry you have to deal with those kinds of invasions of privacy and back-lash when you try to protect yourselves.
Dawn says
I saw the picture of Clara on facebook yesterday, but I was on my phone and wanted to wait to read the announcement until I could see it in larger form on a computer.
Congratulations!! How exciting.
Sherry – have you tried ginger? As in gingerale, ginger snaps, or just ginger caplets? It’s an amazing all natural nausea killer. I lived on it with my 2nd pregnancy. Hope you are feeling better soon. Prayers and good thoughts for you all for a continued healthy pregnancy and a safe uneventful delivery!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Dawn! Ginger gum, snaps, and ale haven’t worked (even tried ginger tea!). Ginger tea tastes good though! Haha!

So exciting! Congrats!!! I have 2 questions… First how did you tell Clara? (I totally forgot how we told our little guy but I know he knew early on and I wish I had written it down!) Also, do you have a list of favorite names that you considered for Clara? If so, do you think you will pick a name from that list or come up with a whole new set of favorites? We used the same list for both of our kiddos, but I know my parents always came up with a new set of names…kinda glad they did too! (Some of their unused favorites were real doozies.) Best wishes to you all! :-)
Sassafras says
Wonderful news of your new bean blessing!!! Clara does look excited!! John & Burger salivating over burritos, HA!
You said to ask questions – I’m an ol’timer and not up on the latest technology and I am wondering about Sherry and the paint? I’m assuming you normally use low VOC, is that considered safe for glowing (read that as sweating hormonal) pregnant ladies to be using?? I too would be in a hurry to cover the Williamsburg Blue up, but as they say, “Safety First!”
Marge says
Congratulations :) I am super excited for you! Clara is going to be an amazing big sister!
