We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.
The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.
(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)
Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.
Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!
Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

Congratulations – what happy news!

Congratulations!!! So very excited for you guys, even though I don’t know you personally lol. Thanks for sharing such an exciting, personal thing with your readers! Praying all goes smoothly this pregnancy. :)

Congratulations to you guys!
So happy for you all!
Just read Clara’s birth story and I want you to know that I will keep you and your little bun (or…bean) in my prayers for a smooth pregnancy and safe delivery.
My hubby and I are also preggo with baby no.2 (due in March 2014) and while we did not have anywhere near the complications you did, Clara’s birth story reminds me that we can take nothing for granted and that life is such a miracle.
Wishing you nothing but the best!

Yay! Congrats!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS! I’m a day late commenting, but only because my phone was messing up and wouldn’t let me share my initial SQUEEEEE of happiness. I did text several people immediately after reading the post yesterday, to spread the news, so that’s proof of my IMMEDIATE happiness for you guys!

CONGRATSSSSS!! OMG SO excited for you guys!! I do feel sorry that some people felt the need to hide behind a secret name and hurl rude comments to you guys.
So happy happy happy for you and excited to hear more about Baby P #2!

I just found your site for the first time and wow, what amazing news to read as my introduction to YHL!!! I plan to stay tuned in as we look for our first home soon. I was scared of reno but your blog gives me hope that it’s not all so difficult. Y’all do so much with so little and it’s beautiful. Congrats on the little one to your family!

CONGRATS!

Congratulations!!!
I actually found your blog a few months ago when I was looking for ideas for a nursery (among other things :)), ’cause I’m due for (my first) in April too! Me and my simultaniously growing belly will be very excitedly following along :)
Congrats again to all of you!!
Joelle says
Congratulations! I am very happy for you!
Being pregnant, are there DIY projects you refrain from doing out of precaution? Like painting, sanding, stripping furniture, climbing ladders, etc. I have heard a lot of different opinions on the subject and was wondering what was your take on it. How do you find the balance between the right amount of safety without being overcautious? Thanks for your advice!
Louise says
Congratulations on your expansion! ;)
I do have questions, and hope it’s not too late before your Q&A …
1) What sort of projects are no-nos for baby baking, and what are some safer projects (and why?)
2) What sort of things does a woman in her first trimester have to think about when she’s working on the home?
3) When do you know ‘enough is enough’ and it’s time to take a break in the best interest of your and the baby?
I ask that third question because jobs like ripping up carpet seem to be quite work intensive.
Thanks and many congrats again.
Abbey says
Maybe too late for the Q&A and not entirely baby related but I’m wondering with how you guys handle the overwhelming amount of people who feel connected to you guys even though you have never met? Reading through these comments there are so many people (myself included) who have never met you but are genuinely happy for you guys. It feels like we know you guys personally and I always see comments about how people want to be your friends (me too but I feel stalkerish saying it) It seems like so much to wrap your mind around. And then of course there are snarky people who say whatever they want behind a fake screen name, how do you shake that off? Sherry, was this harder for you being pregnant? I’m 5 months pregnant myself and sometimes the strangest things set me off crying or really have a lasting impact on my mood so I’m wondering if you have the same feelings.

Fan-freaking-tastic!! Congratulations guys!!!! :)

Those tees are genius! Can you please share where you got them?!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks CC! They’re actually just white shirts that we added words to in photoshop! They were inspired by Clara’s photo project here: https://www.younghouselove.com/photo-gallery-2/claras-weekly-photo-project/

Congrats!! Im due with our 3rd in mid february, and feel oddly excited to be expecting while you are too.
My sister had a placental abruption with her 2nd child and it was horrifying. It happened on the way to the hospital. Luckily she and my neice are fine now, but my sis had multiple blood transfusions, the baby was preterm and born technically dead and spent a long time in NICU. So I know how serious and scary abruption can be. After what you went through with Clara, hopefully this time you get a nice smooth delivery.
I havent read all of the comments (64 pages! Holy cow!) so Im not sure if these things have been asked but I wanted to ask and see if they get answered in your post tomorrow.
Will you reveal the gender online or keep it private? Or not even find out at all?
Will you be telling us what names you are thinking of? Id personally totally understand not sharing that btw. People can be so critical and it hurts if it’s a name you really like.
Will you cloth diaper again this time? We started CDing our daughter at 10 months old because come February, we will have 2 in diapers at the same time. Wanted to do it ever since your post about it but didnt have the initial investment money.
Will you attempt a VBAC this time around? I know thats pretty personal, just curious. Feel free of course to ignore that
question if it makes you uncomfortable.
Are you hoping for a boy or girl? Or just a healthy baby either way?
Will you breastfeed again? Do you think it will be weird to explain that to Clara? I was always too nervous to breastfeed our daughter in front of our then 3 year old son. Now he will be almost 5 when the new baby arrives, so its even more awkward. But darn it, I dont want to hide in my bedroom to breastfeed this time!
Are you going to try to get Clara to advance to the big girl bed so that you can reuse the same crib, or just buy a new one if she still isnt readyt to give up the crib yet?
When are you going to turn your attention away from the sunroom and to the nursery so I can steal your ideas?
How will you baby proof the stairs? Just traditional ugly gates, or DIY something decorative and way cooler? Hint Hint. But of course I realize you have a while to do before the crawling stage.
Again, congratulations! Thank you for sharing your life with us. You are certainly stronger than I would be. Im way too sensitive to meanness to blog anymore. I admire the way you handle rude comments and do things in your own time. Im happy you made it to the safe to tell point. If it were me, and Id been through an abruption before, Id be so paranoid. Cant tell until risk of miscarriage drops. Cant tell until I know I wont deliver too early. Cant tell until I know I dont have another abruption. Cant tell until SIDS risk is gone. Hell, Id never tell my blog I was having a baby. When the kid turns 1 you drop the bomb like, oh yeah I had another kid, heres his birthday party pics. Just because you are a blogger does not mean you are obligated to tell about future family plans. People should be glad you share it at all, instead of criticizing you for waiting until 12 weeks.
YoungHouseLove says
Oh my gosh Sarah, that’s so scary about your sister! I’m so glad she and her baby made it. I can’t even imagine.

Just couldn’t help but share one thought here: Women can totally breastfeed in front of their other kids! But then, that’s not really a DIY home decor issue!
Bruna says
I actually loved seeing my mom breastfeed my siblings, I thought it was sweet. But then again, it’s a completely different culture – I see random relatives breastfeeding all the time.

WOOHOO! I have been following you guys quietly for years (creeper status?) but I wanted to say I am so happy for you guys. You are an inspiration to many :). Will you be finding out the sex of bean #2? Congrats!
Lauren (Mom of 5) says
Congratulations, y’all! I’ve long enjoyed your blog and will be putting into practice your well-written tutorial on laying wood floor in a home that shares some similarities with yours. Anyway, I can identify with first labor scares. With my first child, eight years ago, she tore an artery along the vaginal wall on her way out. We didn’t know for a couple of hours because I was bleeding internally. I was in pain, but I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to feel like after have natural childbirth with no meds – it was my first baby! When it felt like I needed to start breathing through contractions again, my husband got a nurse. Skipping through some details, I passed a blood clot the size of the placenta, and then continued to bleed. I passed in and out as the doctor tried to repair the artery in the room with my husband there. I moved too much so they did have to take me to surgery and give me three units of blood. We stayed an extra day, but still upon discharge, my hemoglobin was only a 7. God was/is good, and my baby was safe, and I have safely delivered four more babies since with no complications. I trust the same for you!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh my gosh Lauren, I’m so glad you’re ok! How scary!

On the off chance that you see this and are still taking questions –
1. I assume you plan to use Clara’s old crib, right? How has it held up (I’m in the market)? Is it still nice and sturdy or do you have to tighten screws sometimes or what?
2. When and how did you tell Clara? (feel free to ignore this one if you think it’s too personal!! I don’t mean to pry!!)
Katie says
Congrats!! Might be too late for questions, but as someone who has gone through it, I am curious if you had to use any fertility treatments? I have lost the ability to discern if this question is too personal to ask, but I thought I would throw it out there! Thanks!
Bruna says
Yaaaay! That’s amazing, the best of the best of wishes to you all! I hope this pregnancy is super calm and labor is super zen and fantastic!
Also, congratulations to Clara, being a big sister is a serious job!
(also, looking forward to nursery posts, I’m a sucker for nursery decoration, haha) ;-)

Congratulations you guys, I’m a long time reader of your blog, seems only yesterday you announced Clara’s birth and showing us how you kept all the “baby essentials” hidden. How time flies! You guys rock, keep up the good work. Stay happy and healthy (and forget the haters!) x

Congratulations! I had multiple miscarriages, pregnancy complications, and PPD with my first and am honestly a little terrified about facing any of that again. We love our son with all our hearts but I think we’re sticking with one for now. So I’m thrilled for you guys and know how strong you must be to go through this again. Pregnancy is certainly a roller coaster ride (as is having a toddler, I can now attest)! I hope it’s smooth sailing all the way! Thanks for letting us all share the journey with you.
Diane says
Congratulations! Burger will be an old hand at this and I bet Clara will love being a big sister… at least most of the time. : )

I showed your post to my 13 year old daughter… and she had tears in her eyes because she was so happy for y’all. Congratulations again and again!!!

Eeeeeeeeeee!! Congratulations! This totally made me teary. I’m so, so happy for you guys and hope that you’re able to relax as much as you can during your pregnancy, Sherry. Having just experienced a bunch of scary birth complications myself (my newborn is about to be 2 months), I can only imagine how much courage it must’ve taken to be ready to become pregnant again. Wishing you nothing but a smooth and healthy pregnancy and birth. Much love! xo
Katy says
Congratulations! Your birth story with Clara was so emotional. I am a Labor and Delivery nurse so I felt all the emotions as I have seen your circumstances (thankfully rarely). Thank you for having the courage to share it. You two make such cute babies and I found myself squealing with excitement at the computer screen when I read it! Congratulations!!
Jen @ RamblingRenovators says
I am so very happy for you John and Sherry and Clara! I’m especially glad that the relentless questioning and speculating about your possible pregnancy can now stop. That kind of questioning can be hard on anyone and you’ve handled it over the years with grace and kindness.
Wishing you a very healthy and exciting next few months. xoxo.

I actually got goose pimples reading this! Big ones!! Which is weird since I don’t know you, but after reading your blog for 3-4 years I feel like I do! Yay!! So happy for you!
Sarah says
Congratulations! Such exciting news. I haven’t read in the last few days so I just caught up a bunch at once. I read all the horrible comments people left about the photoshopped photo then I also just read your birth story. I’m so sorry that people can be so awful and, wow, I was in tears — I can partially blame the hormones as I’m going to have my 2nd in April (yay!) but really you went through such an intense experience. It can be scary to embark on this journey again after a trying experience the first time. Thank you for sharing! Good luck and try to enjoy every moment as much as you can!

I’ve been reading since your first house (my sister emailed me and said I just HAD to read this awesome blog and I was hooked !) and this is the first time I’ve ever commented…had to tell you how excited and happy I am for you! Congratulations!
PS I also have to say that I love the entire YHL community! Reading the comments almost always restores my faith in humanity–these are some amazing, nice, considerate, respectful people.

Yay! Congratulations :-) My husband and I are expecting our first on April 19th, so I’m excited to grow a belly with ya’ll!

First, OMGOSH! Congratulations! I don’t know you but I’ve been reading for so long I feel like we are friends and I’m just so happy for your family. Prayers for a safe and healthy pregnancy/delivery!
Second, I am seriously disturbed by the lack of respect for boundaries some people have! I am so sorry that you have to deal with such rudeness. What really gets me is the fact that this person who is hiding behind a fake name feels the need to creepily stalk your photos for sign of photoshopping AND THEN try to call you out for not keeping it real. These types of blogs are a priveledge into peoples lives and the stories you all are willing to share with us. If some don’t like it, then don’t read the blog and please don’t spread your negativity. There is enough that elsewhere.
Meagan says
Congratulations! We just announced that we’re expecting in April too. There seems to be something in the water right now (or was it back in July???) Very excited for all these spring babies!

Congratulations on your addition! I love watching the happiness you share in your little family. To add to that will be so fun to watch (and I’m sure even more fun to live).
