Hanging A Gallery Frame Wall In The Nursery

Some nursery tweak-age has occurred. And because we’re currently working away on the kitchen (stay tuned for those deets tomorrow morning if all goes well), we figured that we owed you the whole gallery-frame-change rundown (along with some well overdue what’s-in-that-frame answers). We’ve always loved the idea of expanding Clara’s art wall as she grows with more and more frames, so here’s how it looked before:

And here’s what we have going on now that we’ve added a few more frames to the mix (and shifted the placement of a few of the existing ones):

And for those who have been wondering, here’s a quick rundown of the things that we’ve framed (you can find some other details here):

  • John’s baby picture and my baby picture (for fun little comparisons)
  • a hilarious doodle of Burger that a friend did on my Facebook wall using Graffiti (I just printed it out & framed it)
  • this print of a girl and her dog from Etsy (it reminds us of C & B)
  • a personalized canvas that says Clara Kenley from here
  • a photo of Burger that I photoshopped to create a bright stylized picture of him in a field of flowers
  • two faux butterflies in a small shadowbox that I backed with patterned paper
  • a homemade silhouette of Clara that we cut out and placed on striped paper (more on that here)
  • a giraffe print from here (Clara loves giraffes and pooches most of all)
  • a cute Skinny Cow magazine ad with a giraffe that I tossed into a frame (framing ads from mags that you’ve purchased for your own personal enjoyment is totally fine – you just can’t profit off of those images or anything)
  • a big letter P that we decoupaged with colorful paper for a more playful effect (more on that here)
  • a print of peas in a pod purchased here made entirely of type (it’s the letter P, repeated over and over – which we love since we’re the Petersiks)
  • a silhouette of Burger that John ordered me years ago (which we backed with fun patterned paper to nursery-fy it)
  • Clara’s hospital bracelet (I just glued it to some pink construction paper and popped it into a chunky glass-less frame)
  • a cute Sweet N Low magazine ad with an owl in it (once again, when you purchase a mag you can frame any pages you want, you just can’t use them for any reason other than personal enjoyment – ex: ya can’t sell them on Etsy)

And seven of the “art” pieces were actually completely free (our baby pics, the Burger doodle, the Burger in a field print, the Laughing Cow ad, the Sweet N Low ad, and Clara’s hospital bracelet) because we framed something that we already had or made/printed something of ours out on card stock. Gotta love no cost wall-candy, especially when it keeps Clara happy (read: not crazy-wiggly) during diaper changes.

The funny thing is that many of these frames hung in Clara’s first nursery (albeit in a slightly different arrangement with a few differences in what we framed):

One of my favorite things on the wall are our baby pictures. Clara loves looking at them and saying “Daddy baby!” and “Mommy baby!” and we love searching for characteristics in each photo that seem Clara-like. Here’s John’s a little closer:

First of all: we love that we both had our mouths wide open. But more importantly: who do you think she looks more like? Let’s have a good old fashioned vote.

Any Team Sherry peeps out there? Everyone in the family says she looks like John (even on my side) but John’s baby self was so sweetly chubby, so I personally think there’s a little bit of a mommy resemblance going on. Then again, I’m biased.

    I’m actually surprised that everyone says she looks like John! I’ve always thought she was a spitting image of Sherry. Either way, she’s beautiful (and so happy!).

    You know, I’ve always thought cutie Clara looked more like Sherry, and I definitely see her face in Sherry’s baby picture! Those eyes! Her nose!
    I can see little pieces of each of you in her though…and I love that. Her light hair and her height are touches of John…her entire face shouts “I look like my mommy!” to me. And what a lucky girl she is, because her daddy is so handsome and her mommy, my “dream BFF”, is such a pretty, pretty lady. Hugs from PA! =)

    I have always thought she looks exactly like Sherry!

    I suppose your readers can’t see as deep as family members. Our families both think our son looks like my hubby – but everyone else says he looks exactly like me.

    (Although I do agree that she looks a bit like a mix between adult John and baby Sherry. Baby John was a chubby little cutie, but I don’t see Clara there at all.)

    I don’t know about Clara, but John looks EXACTLY like I did as a child- I’m a girl, btw! I actually saw the picture and got really scared, wondering how the heck you had found my baby picture! Maybe we’re related?! ;D S xx

    as far as baby pics go definitely Sherry but when you see a pic of John and her now there is a lot of resemblance there as well. Hopefully the best of both worlds!

    Question – how do you guys tack down the bottom of wall hangings that are near the baby? I remember reading something about that a while back but now can’t remember details. We have a big mirror over our changing station and our wiggleworm puts her little feet on it to roll herself over to her tummy and now she’s starting to pull on it with her hands. I don’t want to remove the mirror because babies love a mirror, so I am trying to figure out a way to child proof it (besides moving it higher). Any suggestions? Love you guys, love your blog, and Clara looks like baby Sherry. :) xo

    I think (and have since she was newborn) that she looks like baby Sherry and adult John. She’s a pretty even mix of the two of you, it seems.

    I even knew John when we were little, he lived right down the street from me since 1985 (when our family moved in.) I still say she looks more like you, Sherry. Especially your nose. She just has John’s hair

    No way, Clara looks just like Sherry, but with John’s lighter hair color. Totally Team Sherry — and I love that she has such great facial expressions just like Sherry too! So cute!

    Even though I see John in her (the eyes maybe?), she definitely looks more like you, Sherry.

    SHERRY!!! I use to get this all the time “She looks so much like her Daddy..” now she looks exactly like me…like I had been telling them all along! haha!

    I’m kind of late to the party on this one, I fell behind on my blog reading. I definitely think that Clara resembles baby Sherry much more than baby John.

    I love the wall art you used. The prints are all so pretty. I redid my little girl’s wall recently too. I used more photos than you guys, but I also did some projects inspired by Pinterest.     I really appreciated your tips about hanging ads. Do you know anything about scanning ads and printing them on canvas? I have a couple of images from an old calendar that I’d like to scan and have printed on XL canvases, but not sure of the best process… Would appreciate any advice you have.

      Hmm, I’m not sure how to go about that. Sometimes places that do that for you want the art to be your original work (so they’re not blowing up and creating a canvas out of someone else’s work. Maybe you can search pinterest.com for ideas for transfering photos or images to canvases (I know I’ve seen some cool tutorials about that pinned). Hope it helps!
