Hi my name is Sherry Petersik, and I have a white ceramic animal problem. Well, this one’s actually made of white resin. Guess which creature stole my heart this time? Here’s a hint.
Now I’m just putting words here so you don’t see the picture below before you venture a guess. Assuming you want to play along. Come on, what animal is it?
More words.
More words.
More words.
More words.
Ok, now I’ll explain how it all went down. I couldn’t resist requesting demanding that John drive me over to TJ Maxx after I received this email from a reader named Nina:
I thought of you guys when I saw this white resin ram’s (?) head at the Broad Street TJ Maxx today. I took a quick pic in the TJX dressing room, which is attached. I bought one but there was still another one there as of an hour ago. It was $30. No other similar animals, but they did have some nice looking white faux coral. – Nina
Oh and this picture was attached:
Let me tell you, it’s totally dangerous to have shopping spies sending ceramic animal details your way. You guys know they’re my kryptonite. Sometimes I can weakly walk away, but this time I just couldn’t resist. We were at TJ Maxx less than five hours later (we made it in right before they closed up shop around 7:30). And miracle of all miracles, no one else had snatched up that remaining ram.
It’s miiiiiiine. All miiiiiiiiine. I couldn’t be more excited. I know it’s weird, but I’m ok with weird. Actually, I love weird. Seriously, I ran out to the car with the biggest smile (Clara was sleeping so I popped in while John stayed in the car with her). Hubs knew I had “secured” Señior Ram from the moment I skipped out the door grinning like I won the lottery. And as for the price, I thought 30 bucks was great compared to this nearly identical ram from Williams Sonoma Home who rings in at a whopping $245! Holla. Oh and how funny is that picture of Rammo on the extra wide plank floors in our bedroom above? Doesn’t it look like he’s hanging on the wall of a cabin or something? Here’s an angle that’s a bit less wall-like:
On second thought, that kinda looks like a wall too. How about this angle:
Yes, that’s Burger stretching in the background. He moseyed out of bed, enjoyed a leisurely stretch, and then approached the newest member of the faux animal gang to check things out.
After some oddly placed sniffs Burger accepted Rammo as his long lost brother walked away to check under Clara’s kitchen chair for scraps. Gotta love that warm chihuahua welcome. I wonder where Ramsy will end up living. Is it weird that I want him over our bed? He’s not big enough to live there alone, but perhaps among a few other smaller white ceramic animal heads in a grouping somewhat similar to this from Ballard Designs?
I know I’m strange, but you can’t help who what you love. I’m fully aware that sleeping under a ceramic ram head might be your idea of h-e-double-hockey-sticks. But it’s totally my idea of a good time.
Update: And now, due to popular demand. The photo of Burger stretching rotated 90 degrees so it looks like he’s scaling the wall. Who doesn’t enjoy a little zero gravity yoga?
Psst- We announced this week’s giveaway winners. Click here to see if you’re one of them!
Lauren says
Ok, the picture of burger stretching might be one of the funniest/cutest things I’ve ever seen!
And I also share your love of white ceramic animals…so much so that if I find one that I like and it’s not white, I spray paint it. I need to be stopped :)
LOVE the ram!!
Lindsey N says
the Burger “climbing” the wall…. priceless!
Jerrica says
I agree, it is totally dangerous to have shopping spies! ;) But that was super cool of Nina to do! I love it when you guys post about nearly identical items found for less.
Rebecca says
You are too funny! I was guessing an alligator … guess I was waaaaay off!
Ashley says
Amazing! I have a thing for ceramic animals too! I’ve actually been working on a DIY project for the bathroom with painted rhino heads. I bought a bunch of large plastic rhinos from the dollar store, sawed their heads off with a hack saw (holy moly that sounds super crazy), and am in the process of painting/gluing them to a canvas. They look surprisingly a lot like ceramic when painted!
Maggie Rose says
I’m cracking up at Burger’s yoga pose. He looks so serene!
Maybe we should have a discussion topic on the facebook page for “white ceramic animal alerts” so readers can scan and see if there are any unpurchased treasures in their town?
Jenny says
That first picture with burger in it still looks like the ram head is hanging on a wall, only the picture is tilted on its side and burger is climbing up the wall al Spiderman-esque like.
Sevi says
Wow, this ram has the most emotional eyes I’ve ever seen!! My oh my..
Lindsay @ A Walk in the Closet says
Where do I sign up for classes with Burger, the Yoga Master?? ;)
Rachel says
Love it!
Unrelated: Are we still going to find out the winners of the Etsy gift card today? I’m dying to know!
YoungHouseLove says
Yes! We actually always announce the winner by Thursday morning so feel free to go back to the original post to see ’em! I meant to add a ps about it on this post but forgot. Off to do that now!

This is so funny to me! I saw a white ceramic bird salt and pepper shaker at Pier 1 today and I totally thought of you – ha ha!
April says
Burger looks like he’s doing push-ups! Hilarious!
reyanna says
Had to giggle at this line: “I’m fully aware that sleeping under a ceramic ram head might be your idea of h-e-double-hockey-sticks. But it’s totally my idea of a good time.”
LOL. I just may make that my Facebook status. ;-)
Kristen says
I’m always creeped out by the thought/sight of an animal head, real or fake, hanging on a wall for decoration. But, I know you guys always make things in your home look chic so I’m sure it will be a lovely addition to your collection!
linda says
sherry…. you are soooo funny! enjoy your ram (and i love the editted/revised version of burger’s pic!)
Jenn L @ Peas and Crayons says
haha only you =)
He’s charming <3
bungalowbliss says
Love that Burger! I seriously LOLed at work…that boy’s all muscle, no?
Congrats on your score!
Elisa says
Burger is an amazing climber! And with no safety apparatus! Brave!
Patti says
From the first pic, I thought it was an alligator and I thought oh no, an alligator, really? But I’m diggin the ram’s head and it’s as nice as the one from Williams Sonoma! I think it would look great over your fireplace.
pam says
I’m too impatient to read though all these so please forgive me if I’m the 100+ person who’s mentioned this. So, you paint your room Carolina Inn Blue (no, I can’t remember the real name either) and now you have a ram’s head. Are you closet Carolina fans or are you just becoming full-on Carolina fans? I can send you all sorts of Carolina paraphenalia since I work on campus. I’m just sayin’… (dang, I love that ram’s head but I’m so not a Carolina fan – something would be just wrong about buying one…)
YoungHouseLove says
Hahah, that’s too funny! We’re not Carolina fans but we do love blue walls and rams! Haha.

Ahahahaha! I burst out laughing when I got to the last photo. Cute!
And back in the 80s I had a white ceramic cow head mounted in my kitchen that I used to hang my apron on. It was quite handy! I didn’t know they’d be all the rage now. :-)
Laura says
1. Love the ram!!
2. You are NOT weird for loving ceramic animals!! They are so in style!!
3. Love the pic of Burger stretching and scaling the wall!
Christy Panzarella says
I really want a white ceramic rhino head over my bed. So go for it!
Rebecca says
I was going with 1) sea cucumber, 2) strange intestinal parasite, 3) a member of the ruminant family: sheep/ram/bison.
Christy Panzarella says
Sorry, I have to share the link. And there is a Moose one too, that always makes me think of Ana White. I dont think you can shop online, so let me know if Ill have to pick it up and ship it for you lol.

My husband is an avid hunter, and thus has a lot of deer skulls, mounts, and antler sheds in his collection. He really wants to display them on the wall, and my compromise is, “Only if I can spray paint them white!” I love the ceramic deer and moose heads from Z gallerie, and would love to have an “au naturale” white version for home. Unfortunately my husband thinks it would be blasphemy. I’ll beat down his resolve soon enough!
Robin says
Thanks for cracking me up with those shots of burger. And, check this out the skull and antlers in this bathroom posted today http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/chicago/jodi-and-ryans-immaculate-whimsy-house-tour-138044. I think your ram is more charming. Did you think of putting him in the bath? LOL
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, he could definitely end up in a bathroom! Nothing is totally out of the question when it comes to my weird little ceramic animal friends!

Burger’s downward facing dog pose literally made my day. :-)
Felicity @ Our Little Beehive says
I saw the teaser on FB and was all “OMG I LOVE ELEPHANTS!” Um, bad guess.
Sarah says
Love it! It looks almost identical to one at Z Gallerie http://www.zgallerie.com/p-8950-ram-head-1025.aspx for those looking for one at their TJ Maxx and can’t find one. It’s not $30 but it’s also not $245!
Kerri says
I think that ram is actually from ZGallerie, and they were still available a few weeks ago. We plan on getting the big moose head when we actually have a mantel to hang it over (which I plan on painting a smokey blue or greyed-out teal)!
Amelia from Flux Capacitating says
While I am completely confident that you already read decor8, I have to tell you that I did think of you yesterday when I read about Anthropolgie’s new white ceramic animal wall hooks. (Quick aside, it feels a little funny to tell someone that I don’t really know that _____ made me think of you…but this is the 21st century, and that’s how we roll) Anyway, on the off chance that you didn’t spot them, here’s the link. Way to grab the ram by the horns! ;-)

Burger totally cracks me up, such a lounge lizard!
I must be channeling your energy as of late, because the weekend before you posted your main bathroom inspiration pic, my daughter and I painted an accent wall in our new bathroom a deep teal. It was a beautiful little color by Sherwin Williams Called Cape Verde. And after it was dry, we hung Hank, a white resin moose head she got for Christmas (from ZGallerie)above the toilet. We LOVE it!
cathy s says
love your excitment…all these ceramic dead animal parts will eventually end up in someone’s garage sale, trust me…but you can have fun for now!
Julia M says
After that Ballard Designs grouping shot, I am rethinking my hallway. Ohhhh, what would my husband think!? Hahaha
Off topic, I have been thinking about the Bumble Bee painting that you got, or John got for a birthday. Has it found a spot in your home yet? I truly loved that painting.
YoungHouseLove says
No but it needs to! We haven’t hung a thing on the walls yet except for the art in Clara’s room! What’s wrong with us?

Maggie @ Black & White {Side by Side} says
I definitely guessed elephant trunk!!!
This post made me laugh! Between Burgers stretch & accepting Rammo as his long lost brother, you had me rolling!
Kelly says
You are making me crush on a ram’s head. I never knew I had it in me.
Caitlin says
That *IS* the ram’s head that I’ve been drooling over from z gallerie since November and finally bought this weekend:
http://www.zgallerie.com/p-8950-ram-head-1025.aspx
You got a better deal, though. I wish I’d seen it at our TJ Maxx!
Tracey says
I always knew Burger had super powers! He can scale walls!
Jessy says
I would love to hange a couple ceramic heads in my house, but when my husband and I got married, I would not let him bring his mounted deer heads (from hunting years) into our new (to us) home. They could go in the garage, but have fortunately stayed at his parents house. I dont think he would see the difference in the ceramic heads and the real deals, some husbands just dont have the same level of design taste as others. I count my blessings though, he doesnt hunt anymore and his brother became a taxidermist.
the 7msn ranch says
Love it. I’m a cow skull kind of girl myself but a faux ram will do in a pinch.
BTW, congratulations on your 2011 Bloggie award nomination!

LOVE this! Might have to scoot on down to TJMaxx to scoop one up myself!

I think YHL is totally getting robbed of their righful title over on apartmenttherapy… last I checked the apt therapy Homies site, I believe YHL had nearly twice the votes of the next highest blog (door sixteen). Now YHL has been lapped by a blog that had barely any votes yesterday :( Voting is supposed to be open ’til 6 pm EST, but the voting “buttons” don’t appear to be showing up any more. Anyone reading this should head on over to http://www.apartmenttherapy.com and try to vote for John and Sherry if you can. Only need about 60 votes.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, you’re so funny Laura! We’re just happy to be nominated! Honestly, it sounds so cheesy, but just being among such cool fellow bloggers makes us feel like we already won.

Laura says
Sigh. Way to be all mature and gracious. I just reeeeaaaallllyyyy want you guys to win. No offense to the other bloggers (I’m glad to have been introduced to some new sites- thanks Homies!), but I can’t get through the day without my daily (okay, thrice daily) fix of YHL. You guys rock! Also, I totally want a chihuahua of my own now. Have fun with your new purchase :)
YoungHouseLove says
Haha. I already won now that I have my ram and my yoga trained dog. Haha.

Oh, I have a HUGE love for ceramic animals too. I’ve blogged about it several times and even managed to incorporate them into our wedding decor. Not kidding. But, did you see the new ceramic animal hooks from Anthro? I die. http://www.mintedlife.com/2011/02/02/animal-hooks/
