Hi my name is Sherry Petersik, and I have a white ceramic animal problem. Well, this one’s actually made of white resin. Guess which creature stole my heart this time? Here’s a hint.
Now I’m just putting words here so you don’t see the picture below before you venture a guess. Assuming you want to play along. Come on, what animal is it?
More words.
More words.
More words.
More words.
Ok, now I’ll explain how it all went down. I couldn’t resist requesting demanding that John drive me over to TJ Maxx after I received this email from a reader named Nina:
I thought of you guys when I saw this white resin ram’s (?) head at the Broad Street TJ Maxx today. I took a quick pic in the TJX dressing room, which is attached. I bought one but there was still another one there as of an hour ago. It was $30. No other similar animals, but they did have some nice looking white faux coral. – Nina
Oh and this picture was attached:
Let me tell you, it’s totally dangerous to have shopping spies sending ceramic animal details your way. You guys know they’re my kryptonite. Sometimes I can weakly walk away, but this time I just couldn’t resist. We were at TJ Maxx less than five hours later (we made it in right before they closed up shop around 7:30). And miracle of all miracles, no one else had snatched up that remaining ram.
It’s miiiiiiine. All miiiiiiiiine. I couldn’t be more excited. I know it’s weird, but I’m ok with weird. Actually, I love weird. Seriously, I ran out to the car with the biggest smile (Clara was sleeping so I popped in while John stayed in the car with her). Hubs knew I had “secured” Señior Ram from the moment I skipped out the door grinning like I won the lottery. And as for the price, I thought 30 bucks was great compared to this nearly identical ram from Williams Sonoma Home who rings in at a whopping $245! Holla. Oh and how funny is that picture of Rammo on the extra wide plank floors in our bedroom above? Doesn’t it look like he’s hanging on the wall of a cabin or something? Here’s an angle that’s a bit less wall-like:
On second thought, that kinda looks like a wall too. How about this angle:
Yes, that’s Burger stretching in the background. He moseyed out of bed, enjoyed a leisurely stretch, and then approached the newest member of the faux animal gang to check things out.
After some oddly placed sniffs Burger accepted Rammo as his long lost brother walked away to check under Clara’s kitchen chair for scraps. Gotta love that warm chihuahua welcome. I wonder where Ramsy will end up living. Is it weird that I want him over our bed? He’s not big enough to live there alone, but perhaps among a few other smaller white ceramic animal heads in a grouping somewhat similar to this from Ballard Designs?
I know I’m strange, but you can’t help who what you love. I’m fully aware that sleeping under a ceramic ram head might be your idea of h-e-double-hockey-sticks. But it’s totally my idea of a good time.
Update: And now, due to popular demand. The photo of Burger stretching rotated 90 degrees so it looks like he’s scaling the wall. Who doesn’t enjoy a little zero gravity yoga?

So I’m reading and scrolling and reading and scrolling and scrolling and scrolling…and then BAM….I see the shot with Burger Meister stretched out in the background doing some sort of up-dog asana and laughed so hard I snorted. He. Is. Priceless.
Namaste.

You know the non-design savvy TJX clerk on duty was thinking, “Seriousy? We sold two of those ram’s heads today? What is going on?” haha. I share the sickness though.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha I bet so! She even said “a ram huh? is that your horoscope sign?”
Hysterical!

oh my ghawd… Burger doing push-ups in the background just had the whole office in stitches! The whole office is just my husband and I, but I still made everyone stop working and look at the photo.
YoungHouseLove says
Hahah, I love it! When John and I laugh it’s the whole office too. Well unless you could Clara and Burger. Haha.

Sorry if this has already been said — but there is a post on AT today with just one (very similar) ram. It looks good with their small bed (and other stuff going on).
JR says
I thought it was a rhino… clearly I need to brush up on my zoo animals.
And am I the only one who spit coffee on my computer screen at the ‘h-e-double-hockey-sticks’ comment?! I love that line and thought only Doug’s mom and I used it! Amazing. Great post, and congrats on the new addition.

Hey…anyone want me to send you a real sheep head? :) I’m itching to get rid of it, even if the Hubs would kill me. haha.
I just think it’s hilarious that the ceramic version is so sought-after when I would do just about anything to get rid of it in our house. :) Yes, I realize real vs. ceramic is quite different.
Sigh.
Krista Haws says
By the way Sherry, and you may hate me for telling you, but Z Gallerie has the CUTEST white ceramic “origami” animals, etc…you better check it out! lol :)
YoungHouseLove says
Ahhh you guys are killing me! Who am I kidding, I love it!

Oh yeah we love ZGallerie! It’s where I got my ceramic rhino friend on our built-in bookcase in the future dining room.

I like it! Speaking of “Clara’s kitchen chair”… I’ve been waiting for a ‘we’re-doing-baby-food-now-and-making-it-ourselves post.’ I have an 8 month old and am enjoying the homemade baby food so far. I’d love to hear if you’re using any baby food cookbooks and what you’re doing to save/store. I’ve had to clean out an entire cabinet to devote to all the storage containers I now need…
YoungHouseLove says
We’re doing Baby Led Weaning and love it! Clara eats almost everything we eat for dinner right along with us (and she feeds herself!). We’ve purchased zero babyfood and she has quite the palette for anything and everything. Loving it so much! And we definitely recommend the book Baby Led Weaning.

Burger is so beautiful. I love everything about him, he has an amazing little cooperative yet slightly independent spirit.
Please don’t EVER hesitate to put in extra photos of Burger. For me, they really make this blog something extra special.

For some reason I can’t stop singing “spider dog, spider dog” and I don’t even like the simpsons. That was a great shot!
YoungHouseLove says
Hahaha. Perfect anthem for Burger in that pic!

My first thought was “big horn sheep” which is a ram. Honest! I’m not bragging! But to be fair, my high school was the Wilson Rams, so I tend to think of them before elephants, which would have been my second guess. Loved the Burger take over of this post though.
Ashley says
Hope you don’t mind but I linked back to your post today on my blog. You can see that here. http://gildedhouse.blogspot.com/

But why, in the name of all that is holy, is he not called RAMBO??? He’s tough, but he’s stolen your heart. I mean, jeez, you want to sleep with him watching over you just like any good soldier of fortune would do.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, perfect. He shall hereby be called Rambo.

Hi Sherry
it’s realy funny cause I was looking at this sneak peek on Design Sponge (which you’ve probably seen also) a few days ago and this photo totally made me think of your ceramic animals addiction:
http://www.designspongeonline.com/2011/01/sneak-peek-sam-horine.html
I must say I like these little guys a lot myself, but the idea of having to dust all these little creatures on a regular basis keeps me from creating my own little Noah’s Arch…
BTW I was totally thinking Elephant from the first photo….
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yes I LOOOOOVE that pic. So sweet.

And I thought it was an elephant. LOL Everyone has their loves. Mine is Rhino’s. Can’t ever find them though.. So glad you got your hearts desire today.
Have a good one:)

I. Love. That. Dog.
Oh aaaand thanks to you Mrs. Petersik I now find myself gravitating toward white ceramic animals and white plant pots.
Thanks for the inspiration :)
Stephanie says
I now have the same white ceramic (or so they think) addiction. Every time I see some cute little creature somewhere I try to imagine where I would put it…Oh my.
Jenny @ Art, Wine and Design says
I can take ceramic animals in small doses, but I really love the idea of a grouping over your bed; placed over a mantal would also be cool. I’ll be on the look out for other steals on animal heads! XOXO
Laci Waner says
I share your love of ceramic animals. I always thought I was weird until I started reading your blog. I just set up a corner of our office with a wing back chair (going to reupholster when I have some time), a twig chandelier over it (bought cheap chandelier, spray painted it white, covered with twigs, and re-sprayed everything white similar to this http://www.deannawish.com/), and the small, white deer’s head from z-gallerie on the wall behind it. A year ago I wouldn’t have had the guts to display my weirdness so openly but reading ya’lls blog has been really inspirational! Thanks!
steph says
Look how cute this one is even though he is not fully white!:

I don’t know if that goes against your menagerie code, but you should consider making an exception :)
Also, I feel like your entries have gotten kind of weird, in a really fantastic way :)

I was with a heap of other people and thought it was an elephant, very tricky of you guys!
I love your collection, especially against the gorgeous book shelf colour you have now!
I am not sure about above the bed, may need to draw the line there….all those eyes looking at me in bed?!!?
Selina says
Now you’re going to have more eyeballs watching you, except these ones look like they are rolled back in his head :-).

Hello Friends-
I don’t know how in the world you ever read all of these comments! My goodness. Well so on to business…
I read this post and immediately jumped in the car to my TJ Maxx in Memphis only to have no such luck. What a treat that must have been to roll in and see that the ram there.
Lukcy Ducky!
You’re new place is coming along nicely! What fun to watch and follow your progression.
