Hi my name is Sherry Petersik, and I have a white ceramic animal problem. Well, this one’s actually made of white resin. Guess which creature stole my heart this time? Here’s a hint.
Now I’m just putting words here so you don’t see the picture below before you venture a guess. Assuming you want to play along. Come on, what animal is it?
More words.
More words.
More words.
More words.
Ok, now I’ll explain how it all went down. I couldn’t resist requesting demanding that John drive me over to TJ Maxx after I received this email from a reader named Nina:
I thought of you guys when I saw this white resin ram’s (?) head at the Broad Street TJ Maxx today. I took a quick pic in the TJX dressing room, which is attached. I bought one but there was still another one there as of an hour ago. It was $30. No other similar animals, but they did have some nice looking white faux coral. – Nina
Oh and this picture was attached:
Let me tell you, it’s totally dangerous to have shopping spies sending ceramic animal details your way. You guys know they’re my kryptonite. Sometimes I can weakly walk away, but this time I just couldn’t resist. We were at TJ Maxx less than five hours later (we made it in right before they closed up shop around 7:30). And miracle of all miracles, no one else had snatched up that remaining ram.
It’s miiiiiiine. All miiiiiiiiine. I couldn’t be more excited. I know it’s weird, but I’m ok with weird. Actually, I love weird. Seriously, I ran out to the car with the biggest smile (Clara was sleeping so I popped in while John stayed in the car with her). Hubs knew I had “secured” Señior Ram from the moment I skipped out the door grinning like I won the lottery. And as for the price, I thought 30 bucks was great compared to this nearly identical ram from Williams Sonoma Home who rings in at a whopping $245! Holla. Oh and how funny is that picture of Rammo on the extra wide plank floors in our bedroom above? Doesn’t it look like he’s hanging on the wall of a cabin or something? Here’s an angle that’s a bit less wall-like:
On second thought, that kinda looks like a wall too. How about this angle:
Yes, that’s Burger stretching in the background. He moseyed out of bed, enjoyed a leisurely stretch, and then approached the newest member of the faux animal gang to check things out.
After some oddly placed sniffs Burger accepted Rammo as his long lost brother walked away to check under Clara’s kitchen chair for scraps. Gotta love that warm chihuahua welcome. I wonder where Ramsy will end up living. Is it weird that I want him over our bed? He’s not big enough to live there alone, but perhaps among a few other smaller white ceramic animal heads in a grouping somewhat similar to this from Ballard Designs?
I know I’m strange, but you can’t help who what you love. I’m fully aware that sleeping under a ceramic ram head might be your idea of h-e-double-hockey-sticks. But it’s totally my idea of a good time.
Update: And now, due to popular demand. The photo of Burger stretching rotated 90 degrees so it looks like he’s scaling the wall. Who doesn’t enjoy a little zero gravity yoga?
Psst- We announced this week’s giveaway winners. Click here to see if you’re one of them!
Bridget says
The pictures are like one of those perspective tests: is it a ram head on a wall or on the floor? What does it mean if I thought floor right away?! Ha.
Melissa says
I love this idea and wish I was as brave with my decorating. We tried a deer head on our white fireplace and couldn’t quite do it. looks great in your house though!
Kiran says
You folks are so funny!!! The last rotated photo of Burger is super adorable :D

that picture of burger stretching cracks me up.

I’m pretty sure that I’ve caught the ceramic animal bug directly from you. Yesterday I found this little guy (http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=19708031&catId=HOME-KITCHEN&pushId=HOME-KITCHEN&popId=HOME&navAction=top&navCount=18&color=095&isProduct=true&fromCategoryPage=true&subCategoryId=HOME-KITCHEN-GADGETS) and haven’t stopped thinking about him since. I’m pretty sure he’s going to be in my kitchen by Monday.

love love love! My husband is a huge deer hunter…I’ve convinced him to let me spray some of the stray horns white so I can put them on display in our room. In my eyes, we both win!
Erin says
I was convinced it was an elephant from the first picture… sorta looks like a trunk, right? But I do love that it’s a ram, can you imagine that in a foyer, as the first thing you see when entering the house?!
Melissa says
Don’t know if I’m allowed to link to photos but Lil’ Burger yoga-ing reminded me of this picture I saw yesterday (both pictures made me legitimately Laugh Out Loud) of another “yoga in the wild” scene: http://goo.gl/DrqPm
Thanks for sharing your impulse-glee spending! Makes me feel better about my morning’s doughnut purchase.

Haha. Too funny! I love the concept of “yoga in the wild.” Haha.

Hi,
I have read your blog for months now. In fact, I work out each morning at 6am, but before leaving the house I have to check to see if there is a new blog post. I love your work. In fact, I find myself referencing you or your blog. I have told all my friends to become followers of your blog. I think your stories are funny and love your writing. We recently re-did our guest bedroom and I tired to follow some of your decorating ideas. Keep it simple and don’t over do it. We love the outcome of the room. Thanks for making the blogging experience so enjoyable.

When I got my new Anthropologie catalog in the mail I immediately thought of Sherry. I know that these white ceramic animal hooks are almost as much as you paid for the ram, but they are pretty cute and I could imagine little Clara hanging a tiny jacket on one. I’m sure that they will go on sale…

That is so ironic, we bought that same line of animal heads at Z gallery, because we saw an advertisement for them on the side bar at YHL. They were $40 a piece at Z Gallery. If you want to see how we also think our dogs look like the deer and moose we chose see our post:

Thanks again for making me smile. Love the pics of Burger and Clara that you post, and today’s pic of Burger stretching was perfect. Love to watch my dog do the same long, easygoing stretch. BTW, I’m now loving white ceramic animals because of how you place them around your home. Thanks for so much good inspiration.

I am pretty sure this is my favorite post of all of yours ever posted… :) I love that someone took a picture in the dressing room, sent it to you, and you just went and bought it. The whole thing is just hilarious and I love it. I love the Burger pics and of course the last one of him “scaling the wall.” Good stuff!
Kristin ~ Bien Living Design says
I guessed the correct animal! Probably because my high school mascot was a Ram – Madison Rams :) & would know those horns anywhere!

I thought it was an alligator! But Burger is a celeb. No wonder he paparazzis himself into soo many shots! Photogenic is he! That last photo is priceless, i cant stop laughing!

I was just an Anthropologie (Stony Point Fashion Park) last weekend and they had the cutest white ceramic-y animal head coat hooks. There was a buck, a giraffe, and maybe an elephant. I think your ram wants some friends!
Sondra says
I thought of you the other day when I saw Anthropologie’s new arrivals. In the hardware section they now carry some white ceramic animal hooks. Here’s the link if you’re interested, http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/category.jsp?popId=HOME&navAction=middle&navCount=66&isSortBy=true&pushId=HOME-HARDWARE&id=HOME-HARDWARE-HOOKS. I figure this post is as good as any to let you know about them. Love your blog!

Congrats on the new addition.
I am not sure if anyone else said this, but most likely it is the same one from Z Gallery. I find things from Z-Gallery all the time in my HomeGoods, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx.
I just found the Devon mirror for $99 at HomeGoods recently.
The funny thing is, HomeGoods are selling the same items at the same time as Z Gallery. You would think they would sell them at different times.
YoungHouseLove says
We had no idea they carried the exact items from there. So cool!

My first thought was a tapeworm. But I knew that 1) there would not be a white ceramic tapeworm for sale, and 2) you wouldn’t buy it – or if you would, then your obsession is even more out of control than anyone realized.
Also, I just noticed the smiley face at the very bottom of the page and it made me smile! You guys are the best.

I love this, love it, love it love it !
I went to my TJ Maxx today to see if I could snag one, with no luck.
Is there by chance a product number, or sticker on the back of the head to identify it ? I have another TJ Maxx / Homegoods store in the area but I would love to call them first and see if they have the Ram on their shelves.
Thanks !
YoungHouseLove says
So sorry! There’s not a thing on him! Ours didn’t even have a price sticker, just the number 30 scrawled on the back in blue crayon (which was the price). Good luck!

I love this (and really your blog in general)! It caught my eye a few weeks ago. Tonight I was reminded of it again when I was watching America’s Next Top Model (I admit it, it’s a guilty pleasure!) and realised that one of the bedrooms has similar resin goat-like heads on both sides of the bed. Guess you guys are ahead of the trend! (If you want to find it, you can youtube it, it’s in the first part of episode three about ten seconds in) I thought it was exciting!

It’s weird, I thought it was a typo, but TJ Maxx is obviously the real name of the store. I was confused because its called TK Maxx here in the Uk, but appears to be the same shop. How odd.
Anyway, I love these white ceramic animals too! I wonder if I could achieve this effect with those paper mâché animals you can buy in crafts stores (they’re brown, I think you’re meant to decoupage on them) and some white paint…

Hi!
I bought a ceramic rams head as well but I have no idea how to hang it on the well. For one, it is quite heavy and two, there is no hook on the back. There is just a square shape recess.
Any tips on how to hang?
YoungHouseLove says
Ours had a recessed area with a metal clasp thing around it so the nail would catch on that. I think we used an anchor and a screw since it was heavy. Hope it helps!
