#25: Let’s All Stop Freaking Out About Holiday Decorating
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We’ve prepared these freshly baked and delicious show notes for you for Episode #25 of Young House Love Has A Podcast. On this week’s episode we’re getting festive. Christmas is around the corner, which means so is the fun (and the frenzied chaos) of the season. So we’re sharing how we decorating our house for the holidays – and the seasons in general. Plus, Sherry takes on a surprising decorating client, John lets go of the pursuit for the perfect family dinner, and we share a seemingly small feature in our kitchen that’s making a big impact. Also we talk about the invention of the broom. Prepare yourself to be riveted. You can
Video House Tour 2016!
Now that our kitchen remodel is wrapped up, it felt like a good time for a (long overdue) video house tour. Our last one was nearly three years ago (you can watch it here) and there really wasn’t much progress to be seen, considering it was shot just seven months after we moved in (you can watch the “before” house tour here). But now that our first floor is looking almost unrecognizable from that “before” video, we figured it was time to break out the video camera and walk around the house using our tried & true method of John-films-while-I-chat-your-ear-off. Bonus points for anyone who can find the two frames proudly displaying a sideways stock photo of a stranger (we have
5 Kitchen Remodel Mistakes We Made (So You Don’t Have To!)
There are tons of decisions, measurements, plans (and change of plans!) that go into a kitchen remodel. So it’s usually unrealistic to assume that you’ll be able to navigate the entire thing without hitting a few speed bumps or having to course correct along the way (ten points for two driving related metaphors in one sentence!). And our journey was no exception – perhaps you already heard about our GIANT tile miscalculation on our podcast – so today we’re recapping five other mistakes that we made, noticed, and then fixed (some riiiight in the nick of time). You know, before they ate away at us for years on end as we stood in there giving them the stink eye. So if you’re
#24: Renovating A Kitchen In Under A Week (Crazytown!)
DJ, drop the beat! And by beat, I mean the show notes for Episode #24 of Young House Love Has A Podcast. This week we’re chatting with our friends from the blog Chris Loves Julia, who have renovated three kitchens in three years – and they’ve even redone a kitchen in under 6 days (!!!). So yeah, they have a ton of experience, advice, and hilarious stories to help anyone else out there who’s contemplating a kitchen remodel of their own. We’re also talking about John’s shed organizing progress, diving into some helpful decluttering revelations, and digging around to see what paint colors are statistically shown to help sellers get top dollar (they’re not what you
#23: Mo House, Mo Problems?
Now that your clocks have fallen back for Daylight Savings (and if you have kids, they were up extra early – yay!), let’s dive into the show notes for Episode #23 of Young House Love Has A Podcast. This week’s episode is coming at you from a hotel room in Baltimore, and we answer three callers seeking home-related updates (from how things are holding up years later to whether it was a shock to move from a smaller ranch-style home to a larger two-story one). Sherry also celebrates *almost* predicting a 2017 color of the year, John gets emotional over another podcast, and we share why it’s especially nerve-wracking to do DIY on camera. Oh, and in honor
#22: Project Paralysis Is A Real Thing, And We’ve Got It Bad
Happy Halloween everyone! Not many tricks here, but some treats in the form of the show notes for Episode #22 of Young House Love Has A Podcast. This week we’re chatting about what to do when you just can’t seem to find your momentum on a certain home task – and we fess up to one that’s had us stuck for months. We also get to talk to HGTV’s Nicole Curtis about rehabbing old houses, working in a “man’s world,” and why she thinks it’s hard (but important) to be an open book with her fans. John also spooks up a Halloween-inspired game, Sherry gleefully removes something from our new kitchen, and we drool over cake
Kitchen Organizing Tips
The kitchen post train is pulling into the station once again, this time with a look behind the scenes doors & drawers to show you what we put where. Where’s the trash? Where are the knives? What about that blender for my morning smoothies? Where’s all the dang food? Well, all is about to be revealed. We even recorded a quick video tour since we loved this kitchen organization tour that Chris & Julia shared last year. But first, if you haven’t read the full kitchen reveal post from last week, I’d recommend hopping over there first. As happy as we are to have a better looking kitchen, a better functioning kitchen is really where its at. So even after deciding on a totally
#21: How The Heck Do We DIY With Kids Around?
Our podcast has officially reached legal drinking age. Happy 21st, YHLHAP! And cheers to you for finding the show notes for Episode #21 of Young House Love Has A Podcast. This week we’re talking about one of the top questions we get asked pretty much constantly: how the heck does any home improvement get done with kiddos in the mix?! Well, not only have we been asked this question countless times, we’ve actually wondered it ourselves in more than a few moments of desperation. So today we’re sharing four of our favorite tactics for juggling parenting and DIY duties, while fending off the frustration of feeling like nothing’s getting done. John also fesses up to his HUGE screw up
Our Kitchen Remodel Is Done! Before & After Photos
Want a full tour of our newly renovated kitchen in 4,390 words or less? Well settle in and sip some LaCroix, because this is the post for you. Shall we begin with a few before and afters? You probably remember this view from our living room where you couldn’t actually see the kitchen. Well, now it looks like this: And here’s the old view from the other side, which is what you saw when you stepped in the door from the garage. These days it’s looking a little different. There’s obviously TONS of stuff to cover about this space, but today our main goal is to dish out lots of after photos and tell the story behind the major
#20: White Walls: Overdone Or Still Totally Awesome?
20 episodes! Holy moly! I mean, yeah, cool… whatever bro. Here are the show notes for Episode #20 of Young House Love Has A Podcast. On this week’s episode we’re talking about white walls. We’ve all seen the ubiquitous white wall trend, but do bloggers and designers just choose them because they look good in photos? In person do they feel bright & cheery or cold & stark? We talk to two bloggers – one who loves ‘em and one who isn’t sold – and we weigh in with our own pros & cons on the subject. We’re also spilling the beans on a new outdoor project that we’re taking on, Sherry braces herself for an uncomfortable
