Nancy’s room for her son Owen is a great example of how a nursery or kids room can be cool and sophisticated while still being playful and fun. Which is pretty awesome, especially when the price tag is a mere three hundred beans. And since we get a bunch of folks asking for kids rooms, we couldn’t wait to spill the pics along with Nancy’s note below:
Hey guys! I have been living in my home for four years now, and I finally decided it was time to decorate it. I started with my two year old son’s room, and now I am questioning why I didn’t start with my room first. I may just have to kick him out.
His room evolved over the course of a few months as I decided what I wanted and didn’t. I spent a total of $305 to makeover his room thanks to doing my best to be crafty and resourceful (I definitely don’t mind shopping at thrift stores).
To help keep costs low, I made a lot of the items in his room myself, including the shelving, the curtains, the wood accent wall, his toys, his blankets and pillows, and most of his art work.
I painted his dresser, which was a dump rescue. The antique rocker was a Craigslist buy, and his crib was a baby shower gift from my father.
I am really pleased with the end results, so tell me, do I get six YHL thumbs up? Here’s hoping! -Nancy
Nancy, not only do you get six thumbs up, we’ll even throw in four Burger paws just for those awesome chevron-gradient curtains and that cool accent wall alone. So let’s call it an even 10. There are more pics of the reveal on Nancy’s blog plus a source list chock full of links to all of her DIY-ed items for ya, but first let’s play the favorite part game. Sherry is all. over. that. dresser. And I sort of want to steal that little gold whale.

Wall art next to window, framed by curtain? Me likey.

hmmmmm – again no pictures. Is it jut me?

Anyone else having issues? Maybe try clearing your cache/cookies/data or disabling any anti-virus stuff you have (often Norton and McAffee blocks pics for a few days and then they pop up).

Not just you. The past few visits, the pictures have not appeared at first. If I visit YHLife and then go back to the main page or click the comments section, the pictures usually appear.
YoungHouseLove says
So odd! I wonder why they would slowly come back like that? I wish it was something we could fix on our end, but we haven’t changed anything on our site having to do with pics/loading/hosting for years!

No troubles for me. Both the iPhone and laptop see everything ok.
Carol says
I’m having the same problem–just started about a week ago.
YoungHouseLove says
So sorry Carol! I can tell you there’s nothing we changed about our site/images/hosting/uploading/server at all, so we’re sure it’s some sort of external browser or spyware/virus-scan glitch that will hopefully clear up! One idea is to try another browser and clear your browser’s (and your entire computer’s) cache/cookies/data which might help them pop back up.

Those curtains are AMAZING!

Awesome, awesome, awesome! I also would love to see more kid rooms on YHL. Love the trend of doing grey with an accent colour in a boys room rather than the traditional (sometimes boring) blue. Well done Nancy! Thanks for sharing!
Mollie says
the pictures between the curtains and the window to even things out is genious!!
Mollie says
wow. and clearly i’m not a genius for spelling genius wrong. errrg.

My first thoght also. And all the better for me, I have this problem and didn’t have a solution for it, untill now, that is.
Chelsea @ Riding Escalators says
Oh my gosh! I’m SO digging that accent wall! I love the fact that it doesn’t go all the way up and instead ends with the shelf. I definitely wouldn’t have thought to do it that way – and I LOVE it! Kind of want to do that in our guest room now… off to pin it on Pinterest!
Elizabeth Tavarez says
I love the colors and the Chevron Curtains!!
Jess @ Little House. Big Heart. says
I’m all over those ombre chevron curtains! Love!
And that mid-century-ish dresser is amazing!

Wow, looks fantastic! I love the wall treatment behind the dresser, and I’m a huge fan of the chevron curtains as well. Nicely done. :-)
Shelley says
I don’t usually go for the all white color palette. I’m a deep, rich earth tone gal but she seriously did this right. What a lovely place for her boy!
robin @ our semi organic life says
I love the curtains! And that rocking chair, and its’ pillow!
Kristie says
OMG OMG OMG @ the art hung next to the window frame. I have a weirdly off-center window as well and I would have never thought of this in a million years. Absolute GENIUS!
Cassondra says
Love the curtains! Definitely bookmarking that for our nursery, or maybe even our own bedroom!

Me too! Ombre! Chevrons!!
Jen says
Man it makes me wish I could decorate a nursery instead of just a corner in my room!! But I am much to lazy to get up and walk all the way to the guest room during the middle of the night. This looks amazing.
Emma (Broke Ass Home) says
This looks amazing! I can’t wait until we can start a family to get a baby room… I know, priorities, right?
I love the curtains! Love, love, love them. 16 thumbs up over here!

OMBRE CHEVRON CURTAINS?!?
I think my heart is going to explode with glee. This is absolutely gorgeous.
Gray says
I also love the curtains and the accent wall, but I am really obsessed with the way the wall opposite the dresser is arranged! I love how the mirror is below the 2 staggered shelves because it is so unusual yet works perfectly for a kiddo! Plus it reflects the whole stellar set up on the opposite wall!
Glenn says
You said exactly what I was thinking. Loved that the mirror was low on the wall.
Becca says
THAT WHALE!! Oh gosh, I’d fight someone for that…
Carrie says
I love how the mirror is at kid level. Pretty smart!
Whitney says
Those curtains are amazing!
Ashley says
LURVE the chevron curtains, but the entire mood of the room is perfect with that wall color! and I MAY be stealing the wood accent wall idea!
Stephanie says
Chevron-ombre curtains? Be still, my heart.
If those were mine I would just stare at them and pet them ALL THE TIME. People would be looking in the window like “Whats wrong with that girl? She’s so weird.” Haha.
Is it wrong that I want a room made for a 2 y.o. boy to be mine? Because if so, I don’t want to be right!
(still hyper…)
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, loving the hyper.

Jodi T. says
I am TOTALLY crushing on those curtains. LLLLOOOOOVVVVEEEEE them.
Katie says
That accent wall is amazing. And I need to figure out how to make those curtains.
Rebecca S says
I love that the room is soft, soothing colors but not babyish at all. I especially love that so much of the room was DIY and on a low budget. That gives me no excuse to not finish my boys’ room! We moved in almost a year ago and the walls are still bare.
Marsha says
LOVE those curtains!!! She did an amazing job on the room!!!

Do you know there is an AARP link at the end of the post? Under the posts that you suggest…the last picture/link is about dementia :)

Thanks for the tip C! The plug-in that we use to serve those random related ads works by sharing four of ours and one from an outside source, but it’s usually home-related so it ties in. Off to check it out…
