When Jamie sent us photos of her stunningly posh striped walls (inspired by our bathroom painting project) we had to share the amazing transformation. Here’s her letter:
Just wanted to tell you “THANK YOU” and give you a big cyber-hug for inspiring me to get off my duff and add some “oomph” to my house. After seeing your altogether fabulous bathroom stripes, I’ve gone stripe-wild in my own house and it’s made all the difference. I did stripes in my bathroom – much like yours – then kept the love going by adding them to my master bedroom as well. Talk about textural eye candy! I just love them, and I love you for all of your fabulous ideas, your prompt responses to emails and comments, and the free advice you so generously bestow on your faithful readers. I’m doing my utmost to return the love by giving you shout outs on my blog as much as possible. I’ve got a large portion of the Salt Lake valley following your every move so I think I’m doing a good job. Let’s be honest, what’s not to love? In short: I’m pretty freaking exciting about my stripes!!! Love you both! -Jamie
Here’s the already lovely bedroom before Operation Stripe Happy:
And here it is after Jamie’s mission was accomplished…
… and her bathroom walls got in on the fun.
Aren’t these chic stripes gorgeous in both the bathroom and the feature wall behind the bed? Love. Love. Love. Thanks so much for sending the amazing photos our way Jamie! What do you guys think? Isn’t it amazing what a gallon of paint a little painters tape can do? Gotta love how cheap this project is- and how much bang you get for your buck.
Psst: Itching for a step by step stripe painting tutorial? Look no further than this play by play.

Looks good! Of course I thought the before picture looked great too! Looks like you guys are inspiring people all over the country!
LCA in RIC says
Stunning! Jamie, what paint colors did you use?
Jamie Lin says
Oh I <3 it! It brings the room together so well..it was cute before but missing a certain element and they found it! Very chic.
Dianna says
The stripes really make a difference. Adds a little interest to both the bedroom and bath.

Looks wonderful! Great job!!

and across the pond, too, jenny! (i’m from scotland, and have been massively inspired by YHL! <3)
Youngsters, I LOVE reader transformations, and have been wondering if you have/have been thinking of making a section of the site for the "after" of houses you sell moodboards to…or is there not many "after" pics? you'd think people would be more than happy to share your transformations of their rooms. As you can probably tell, my site favourite is the House Crashing. Love!

Hey Bunny,
Done! If you click on the “Our Portfolio” tab under the header you’ll see a ton of rooms that we’ve made over (both virtually with mood boards and in the flesh). Hope it helps!

Sherry,
I swear; your bathroom redo is addicting! Jamie’s walls look beautiful!!
I must send you my bathroom redo-inspired by your stripes!
Kasey at Thrifty Little Blog says
It’s true- that room looked great before, but the stripes give it the extra “wow.” Great job!
Donita says
Good Morning John and Sherry!!! You guy’s ideas rock. LOVE Jamie’s room. I too think it looked good even before ;-) *her lamps are GREAT*. This striped room has me in AWE and I cannot wait to do that to my own house. We rent……however we are in the process of finding a home of our own :-D. You can be assured that THIS TECHNIQUE, “WILL” be in our new home……..or maybe even in the rental, if it takes too long to get our own home. LOL LOVE IT!!! Keep the great creative juices flowing YHL. ;-)
P.S. I too, give everyone the link to your site, anyone that has even a tiny bit of DIY skills. :-D

I am absolutely falling in LOVE with these stripes!!!

Hey guys,
We dropped Jamie an email so here’s hoping she swings by soon to answer your questions. So glad you’re loving her stripes as much as we are!

The stripes add the perfect touch to a beautiful room. Just enough detail to make the room pop.
Jamie N says
Yay! Happy day that I’m on YHL! I’m glad people are digging the stripes. Like I said, the Youngsters get all the cred.
Here are my paint colors:
Bedroom – the entire room is painted in Behr’s Castle Path (730C-3), then I did the stripe one shade darker in Behr’s Garden Wall (730D-4).
Bathroom stripes – Sherwin-William’s Relaxed Khaki (SW 6150).
I love the lamps too (is that so vain?)! I actually got them for a steal at TJ Maxx Home Goods. They were each $22.99!
Thanks again for the inspiration, Youngsters!
Tran says
I think it looks great as an accent wall! I wish I could do this but I have textured walls and don’t think it would turn out crisp and as nice looking… or would it?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Laura and Tran,
Check out the comment section of the stripe-painting tutorial that we link to at the end of the post above for both of those answers! Hope it helps.

This is fabulous! Those stripes look fantastic, what great before and after photos. I want some stripes now!
Heather says
Thanks for the lamp reference – I was JUST about to ask!
We also have a black and white master bedroom and I just LOOOOVE this! The stripes make SUCH a huge difference and I find myself looking around as we speak to figure out which room I can use stripes in!!! :)
BRAVO!!!
Laura says
Oooh this is inspiring me even more to do the same thing to my living room! I’m starting from scratch, Youngsters, would you suggest I mark the areas, roughly paint THEN add painters tape for the stripes? i.e., I just moved into a new place and the walls have no paint, doesn’t seem to make sense to paint the entire wall first, then do the stripes — does it?
Kylee says
looks great!!! thanks for sharing
Allison says
My goodness how I love those stripes in her bedroom. They add tons of interest. Love it!
Tish says
Love, Love the stripes! I’ve been dying to put stripes in my home somewhere. I just have to figure out where?
I love all the ideas I get from your blog.
Julia Wood says
You asked for questions, so here’s one for you guys. Is your house ALWAYS as neat and clean as the photos show? I’m dying to know!
Amanda says
It already looked so fab and chic but now it looks like a 5 star hotel room! What a great job!
Vanessa says
::Squee!:: More inspiration photos, thank you! I’ve been planning on doing this on the very long wall connecting my kitchen and living room using one paint color with two different textures (flat, semi-gloss). Just need to find the perfect gray to compliment Behr Poundcake Yellow.
ShopKim says
That turned out so great!!
LauraC says
The stripes do look great. Something funny happened regarding stripes and YHL just recently. My friend, Mindy, told me she’d decided to paint her guest room with stripes, and I immediately thought of your bathroom stripes. When I finally got around to emailing her your link, she emailed me right back and said it was your bathroom that was her inspiration! She’d done a Google search. Too funny!
kim says
I would love to know what color that room is!
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Kim,
If you scroll up you can see what colors Jamie used. Hope it helps!

Wow! Jamie’s bedroom was stunning to begin with, but the stripes take it to a whole new level. Never underestimate the power of paint!
heather s. says
Looks lovely. I think stripes around the entire room would have been a bit much in my opinion but as a focal wall it looks great!
Sara says
Lovely! The before looks a lot like our bedroom, so this has me thinking!
Tran – we have textured walls, also – so I’m thinking: try it in the closet first, or behind something.
Karin says
Looks so great!
(I happen to know this same reader was also inspired to redo her entire kitchen- with an amazing result)
LeeAnn says
The ‘before’ was fab as it was, and now the stripes make it even better! Great job!

I LOVE what a gallon of paint can do to a room. Insta makeover!

How cute in the bathroom!!! The bedroom was already cute in my opinion, but the stripes really brought out so many features in the room! Great job!

What an awesome room! I love how polished it looks!

Hi there. Jamie if you check the comments again at all, I was wondering if you could let us know where the frames are from above your bed. I just lvoe the look with the oversized white mats.

Love the Stripes! They made a good looking room look even better. I’ll have to keep that idea in my noggin for my next house for sure.
Sara says
Question for you both: In the bathroom striping projects, how did you get behind the toilet and the sink?
YoungHouseLove says
Sara- We’re actually huge fans of this short handled brush that lets you get behind things like the toilet and the sink with ease. It took some bending and a bit more time but the look is seamless. Hope it helps!
Dana- Love the idea of a striped TV wall. Just like the accent wall in Jamie’s lovely bedroom, it’ll look posh and polished and really fill things out around the rectangular TV (which is very similar to Jamie’s headboard, so you can almost picture it already…). Hope it helps!

What a great makeover! The stripes really look fantastic!
I will say though as a PSA, if you’re looking to buy a house and come across striped walls, just be aware that they can be a pain to paint over, and sometimes end up showing through primer and a re-paint! We eventually had to sand some completely down!
Hopefully though, these stripes are so gorgeous that any future owners would want to keep them anyway!
Dana Miller says
Color me stripey. Love it. Great job!!!!! Good paint colors.
Sherry, what do you think about a striped TV wall? We have one large wall in our family room on which our 52″ flatscreen TV is mounted. So far, that’s the only thing on the wall. Thought about adding a large black & white framed photo on each side of the TV and striping the entire wall. This wall is visible across the house to the kitchen (open floor plan) so thought maybe the stripes would help bring the wall in some??? It’s a very long, large room. I’d appreciate your expertise! I’ve also been wanting to add stripes since you shared your tutorial.
Jamie N says
Kelly, I actually got the idea from a picture I saw in a Pottery Barn store, however, their frames were a little too pricey for me. I found similar ones at Bed, Bath & Beyond. They are shown as wedding frames go guests can sign the matte. But, I obviously didn’t use them for that. I think they were around $30/each. I’ve also flipped the matte over for a less bright-white look and loved that as well.
Hope it helps!

This is so beautiful, Jamie. Your bedroom looks like a million bucks, and the bathroom looks fabulous too.
Youngsters, thank you for continuing to inspire us!
Kelly says
Hi Jamie –
Just wanted to say thank you for writing back so quickly. I was thinking the were “Pottery Barn” ish, but I love your cost saving idea. Thanks again!

Yowza! Those stripes are striking. I absolutey love them.
Amy @ Renovation Innovation says
Holy stripes, Batman! Great transformation – the bedroom looks so sophisticated. I was wondering how the stripes would look if the finish of the paint (matte/gloss) was alternated instead of the color?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Amy,
Those look just as fabulous! They’re a bit more subtle and harder to see in photos since it’s just a shiny vs. matte look in the same tone, but very posh and lovely too! Hope it helps.

I love the bathroom stripes, they look great. I’m not quite as much of a fan of them in the bedroom. I love everything about that room, it’s completely my style, but the stripes just make it a little less interesting to me *shrugs* To each his own, I suppose.
