Maybe this is just me trying to hang on to every last vestige of summer. Maybe it’s me wanting a big sunroom makeover (we haven’t even touched ours since we moved in). Or maybe it’s just that Jenna Sue has a knack for awesome makeovers (you may remember her entryway transformation). Whatever the reason, feast your sunshine-loving eyes on this cheerful update. Here’s her letter:
Hello once again! Our sunroom began with white walls, green trim, carpet and a sagging ceiling.
We removed the ceiling, added insulation and fresh new humidity resistant drywall (which I painted a light blue and added recessed speakers and lights). And we replaced the carpet with gray ‘wood’ tile planks.
We bought a couple of Brimnes daybeds from Ikea so we can finally have guests over.
I built a simple rustic coffee…
… and console table…
… added some accessories and a bunch of pillows, made a no-sew slipcover for our old armchair, hung some art, and now we have the perfect summer party space.
Thanks for looking! -Jenna Sue
Thanks for sharing, Jenna Sue. It makes us very jealous that we don’t live in Florida right now. And we love all the construction details (like the drywall and tile work) along with the homemade stuff (like the slipcover, coffee table, and console table). And for everyone else, be sure to click over to Jenna Sue’s blog for more info on the projects in the space (cat owners will love the hidden litter box she made). But first let’s play the favorite part game. Sherry is swooning over those two daybeds from Ikea that are smartly placed to form sort of a daybed sectional (her exact quote was “daybed sectional for the win!”) and I’m loving the gray “wood” tile and that black cat who looks just like my parents’ cat. Now when can we come over?

This is just gorgeous. Someday, I’d love to build a sunroom and this is inspiring! I love the daybeds. I can’t help think how great it would be to be to curl up on them and read in the sun.

Love the coffee table!

This comment doesn’t belong here but didn’t know where else to post it. Under the items you’re currently loving right now, is the Hunter retro table fan. Just wanted to tell you that I found it on clearance at Target tonight for $38!!! Was so happy. When I saw it on your sidebar, I knew I had to have it, so I was thrilled to find it reduced. I understand if you delete this comment… just wanted to be sure you knew about it.

It really is a lovely and serene sun porch. And I must still be a blog newbie because I looked through the photos thinking, Clara and Burger have a gorgeous black kitty sis/bro? lol.
It is weird. I have essentially a blank canvas old farmhouse, and even after looking at so many great ideas, I look at my house and get no inspiration at all. Most days I just feel like sprucing up my place would be like putting lipstick on a pig. (no offense meant to piglets, love ’em, just an expression :)

Thanks for sharng this redesign. We just recently installed the same grey plank tiles in our house and started to second guess myself. because the areas are not completely decorated yet I began to think it was a mistake, but now seeing the floor from a different perspective im convinced that its going to work and look just as great as I first imagined. Do you guys ever second guess any of your decisions?
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yes! All the time! We like to say there’s a phase in every room called “the middle makes no sense.” It’s when a room is half together and you’re convinced it’s a train-wreck and slowly it starts to come together more and you’re so relieved. Haha.

I love those floors. I saw them in a porch remodel in the wash post section.
I was wondering if they would work for a first floor instead of wood and how they compare to bamboo for pet cleanup and wear and tear and price points.
I notice that that same floor is sold out– did she share where she bought the wood tiles? thanks!

I think if you click over she shared where she got it/the manufacturer name. She also mentioned her experience with them back in the comments of this post. Hope it helps!

I’m 99% certain her turned-over-spray-painted-trashcan side table is ALL OVER Pinterest…but my favorite part is the quatrefoil mirror. I want one so bad, with a bright turquoise frame.

Wow, what a gorgeous, vibrant and happy room. Just stunning. Well done Jenna.

Is there any alternatives to Ikea for the beds? I’m a bit lazy and don’t like flat-pack furniture! :) Love your blog you too by the way.
YoungHouseLove says
Hmm, anyone know of any daybeds that aren’t flat-packed? My BFF got a pretty metal one from Pottery Barn or PB Kids but I think that was flat packed too.

I have that turquoise ikat print on my couch, too and I LOVE how bold it is. Jenna Sue has a great aesthetic! Gorgeous room. And I’m definitely making myself one of those rolling coffee tables once I move to my next apartment.

Fabulous makeover! Love the color combos and the elements.
Great job on building the tables!
And the floor choice (material and color) is genius!
The only thing I’d be tempted to toy with is the rug. It feels somewhat blah, and the color feels out of step with the rest of the colors in the room. What about a rug that combined gray and blue? Or maybe a white flokati rug? My 2 cats love my flokati rug (the girlcat even “kneads” it in that blissful way that cats have, and yet, it shows no damage whatsoever from that), and while it does attract bits of dirt and such, it’s easy to shake out.

Damn you for introducing me to Jenna Sue!!! I’ve just spent HOURS between her blog and her shop. I really want the longitude and latitude print. I totally love that coffee table and I have some wood that’s been hanging outside for years while the paint slowly chips away. I think it would be perfect for this coffee table. Pinned and ready.
