Yup, it really has been seven whole months since our last house tour video. Unacceptable. So here it is. Eight riveting minutes of me walking around the house and babbling about anything and everything with the Flip cam catching all the shaky Blair-Witch-esque action. We just figured it was a nice time to shoot this now that the kitchen is done and we’re gearing up to start some new stuff (some landscaping bidness, upgrading one of the three bathrooms that we haven’t touched, building a big arse deck, etc). So come on in and poke around:
A few notes:
- Am I the only one who still has a scratchy voice two weeks after the flu? Sorry about the croakiness!
- I do know that a trifecta involves three things and not two. Brain = fried.
- This time my bra isn’t laying out on our bedroom chair…. and that, my friends, is progress.
- It also means I was actually wearing a bra while filming this video (as opposed to this time, since Katie blew my cover about my one-bra-ness here).
- I’ve listened to this five times trying to hear Natalie Portman or Mila Kunis (since you guys say you hear it) and I just can’t. But I really tried.
- I filmed about five minutes of this video and then walked into the bedroom and the front of the door (where we did a secret book project) was visible, so I had to start all over again. Woops!
- It’s fun to play Where’s
WaldoBurger (he’s in there). And actually my BFF is randomly visible through a window for a second too. She was just arriving while I was scrambling to make this video for you guys (hey, if the house is clean…) - Yes, you can actually see my shadow wildly gesturing while I talk about not being able to open the playroom door. Apparently I talk with my hands whether someone can see me or not.
- Once again, I’m terrible at walking around, talking, and holding a camera (it’s too much multitasking) so pardon the shaking!
Second random CougarTown-related side tangent of the week: dude, who watched Tuesday’s episode? Our ceramic rhino was totally in the background:
I’m taking it as a sign that rhinos are the new elephant/owl. Seriously, soon people are going to be putting a rhino on it. And have you noticed the big ceramic dog sitting next to Cee-Lo on The Voice when he told his team who was battling who? Ceramic animalz 4 eva, y’all. And the mysterious fluffy white cat that Cee Lo randomly holds/maniacally strokes is pretty fantastic too. If only I weren’t allergic…
Psst- Check out all the other house tour videos since we’ve moved in here, here, here and here. And here’s an outside tour from last year.

I have probably said it before, but I will say it again… I love your floor plan. It has such a good flow and is so cozy :)

Quick question…you mentioned that you had to repaint the guest room several times, did you just paint right over the previous color or did you have to use a primer first?
YoungHouseLove says
We actually did most of the painting and repainting in the playroom. So since that room was white, we didn’t have to prime at first but then primed over dark colors to bring it back to lighter ones as we flipped and flopped around with different colors in there! For guest room painting we would prime though (since it’s so dark) – hope it helps!

I saw the ceramic dog and rhino (on The Voice and Cougar Town respectively), and immediately thought of your blog! So crazy that you mentioned them specifically.
Keep up the beautiful DIY projects. You constantly inspire this one-day homeowner that maybe, just maybe, when it’s my turn I can do some of these things, too!
YoungHouseLove says
Too funny that you saw them both! Meanwhile picture me pausing the TV so I could take photos. I’m a dork! Haha.

Watching the video with the captions on is the the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time! I love how the pop up at the beginning says “Transcribe Audio is an experimental service.” Yeah, FAIL. I can’t even pick what my favorites were, but I definitely cracked up at about 1:55 in the video “quest the dining room has a popcorn built-in” and at the end “thanks for coming on the tarmac.” Incidentally, I did feel like I was in flight during the video ;) lol kidding! Nice job – I love everything you’ve done with the house :)

I thought of you when I opened this week’s Target ad. There is a white horse head figure on the inside of the cover. I don’t know if it’s ceramic, but animal figures are taking over!
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, soon they’ll be running for president!

We call CeeLo’s cat, the evil cat. He totally has this Austin Power’s thing going when he hold’s it. DH and I have watch The Voice for the performers and half to hear what the judges say to each other.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, totally! That cat is funny and Cee Lo looks sinister sometimes when he sits there petting it ironically. I love the judges so much.

Sherry, Strange question. What are the dimensions of your bathroom/closet layout off the master bedroom? My wife and I are considering something very similar and are worried about the dimensions being too small to make it work. (shower/toilet room + vanity + closet)? If this is too weird, no worries. Great tour and very helpful. Good luck with the super secret book.
YoungHouseLove says
Here are those dimensions for ya: closet = 5′ long x 6′ wide, sink nook = 5′ long x 6′ wide, bathroom = 5’4″ long by 6′ wide. Hope it helps!

the one thought that jumped out (besides i LOVE this house) is , “that’s amazing all the crayons are right there in that little container on her desk! could i do that with my kids table? absolutely, not. the crayons would be EVERYWHERE. Clara needs to come teach my kids a few things.”
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, there’s a bit of coaxing to keep them in there! We try to have a rule that her bottom has to be in the chair for her to play with crayons so they don’t end up everywhere!

Hahaha I am sooooo glad I am not the only one with one bra. Seriously. And it is navy so let us just say white shirts are out. What can I say, it is broken in, why would I switch up? Maybe I would need to go shopping if I was better endowed haha.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, mine’s black! No white shirts for me either. Haha.

One: I am currently in Cabo San Lucas at a very nice house with a very nice pool near a very nice beach and I am sitting on the couch inside watching your video. Because I can’t escape the internet. Also because I’ve been banished inside by my husband because of sunburn-related reasons.
Two: We went whale-watching last night and I thought of you (which is probably weird) and got some great pictures. Like serious jumping out of the water pictures.

Congrats, your house looks fresh n fun! The commentary is lovely to listen to, because you are so articulate (I’ve always thought that!) and natural, like, not showing-off or feeling self-conscious, y’know? You sound very likeable, I reckon!
Go, the Petersiks!
Warm wishes,

YoungHouseLove says
Aw thanks Tanya! Listening to it back I was cringing (didn’t feel very articulate at all, haha, felt like rambling!) so that’s nice to hear!

I have to say how much I love Clara’s closet. I used to hang out in my closet when I was kid–although mine wasn’t nearly as well-designed as hers is!

LMAO! I do the same thing while talking on the phone… Thanks for the laugh though. It was much needed this morning.

Because of you we painted our living room grey, the trouble is we did it shortly before finding out I was pregnant and have Hyperemesis and the smell of the living room (new furniture and new paint) makes me feel so sick! My hubs cannot smell anything, must just be me!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh no! I remember those early days! You can smell everything! Here’s hoping it dissipates soon! Open those windows!

Hi,
I loved your house tour. More importantly, I loved your large round table in your dining room. Did you guys make that or did you purchase it somewhere? I’ve been looking for one that seats 8 and isn’t wobbly or costs $5000!
Thanks!
YoungHouseLove says
Ooh, we got a heckova deal finding it at a local outlet. Here’s that post for ya: https://www.younghouselove.com/2011/02/table-talk/

Hi there love the tour! Was wondering do you guys have a post about the DIY of your big hallway frames gallery? Would love to see it up close, planning on doing one and needing ideas of things to frame. Thanks so much!!!

Hi Sherry…I have the same shower curtain and it still has fold marks from the package. Do you launder yours (I’m afraid it will shrink if I put it in the dryer!) and do you iron it to get out the wrinkles? TIA!
YoungHouseLove says
I think ours just relaxed after we took a few hot showers (the steam steamed it, haha) but I do launder it to keep it clean (we have a tension rod, so if it shrinks a half inch or something we can always lower the rod a smidge, but we haven’t had to do that yet. Maybe it’s pre-shrunk?

I’m curious about the barstools in the kitchen. I love the look of them, but are they comfortable to sit in? I saw on the website they are only 14 inches round. I think it’ll be fine for my kids, but what about adults?
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yes, they’re great! Even my mom remarked how comfy they are. I think without the back they wouldn’t be (the back flexes when you lean back, which is really nice so they don’t feel hard) but they’re made for adults too (my brother has them in his chem lab at grad school and he’s 27!). Hope it helps!

Hey YHLers – I love the tour videos! You got me all fired up to make my house pretty this weekend. I just looked at your “where we got it” list and I can’t find one. Where did you find the great C on Clara’s door?? I’ve got a handful of littles at my house who’d love their own letters…
thanks!

That was from Anthropologie a while back in the clearance bin! I think they sold them a while back, clearanced out the leftovers, and might have brought them back since I saw some other letters the last time I was there!

There is a lot of progress going on. I really love the grey walls through out the house and the pop of color in the kitchen. I was just thinking too that the last time you did a house tour you were always recovering from being sick. lol Is that your cue to do a video? Haha I’m just kidding, just thought it was funny.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, isn’t that funny? I noticed that too when I was linking back to the older videos. Maybe once I’m on the mend I decide to get on things that are well overdue like videos!

Is the mirror over the desk in the living room new? I thought it used to look different. I am in desperate need of a mirror for our living room, so I am mid-way though a DIY one, using Kaite Bower’s tutorial (using shims), but I can’t find a circle mirror big enough… bummer.
YoungHouseLove says
Aw man, that is a bummer! That mirror actually used to hang in the kitchen over the fireplace for a while but it’s originally from jossandmain.com (so maybe try overstock or wayfair.com). Hope it helps!

Hello!
Is that a new ceramic table and floor poof in the office? I LOVE IT! Just wondering…is it west elm? Really love the red!
YoungHouseLove says
That’s actually a red ceramic garden stool scored a long time ago on sale from Joss and Main. Ack, I really do owe you guys a huge update on little things like that (which we buy, wait to find a spot for and then plan to blog about them, and then got into book/kitchen madness and completely forgot)!

Hi Sherry! You did a comical job narrating the tour! Happy Bday by the way. I also grew up with pastini and still love it. My mother also makes a version with orzo, chicken broth and egg. My voice has been scratchy for three weeks. Darn those viruses. Happy spring!
