How About A Baby Announcement?

Just thought we should mention that we recently welcomed a new member of the family.

On Friday the 14th at 5:57pm, Clara Kenley Petersik was born with a paint brush in her hand weighing in at 7 lbs 10 oz and measuring 20.5 inches long. We’re insanely in love with her. And she and Burger are already best buddies. Seriously, he thinks it’s his job to stand guard next to her at all times.

Clara was named after John’s grandmother on his dad’s side. And her middle name, Kenley, is an homage to my dad (Ken) with John’s mom’s maiden name worked in there (Kelley) along with a reference to my great aunt on my mom’s side named Lee. Gotta love rooms and names that multitask.

We’re all home from the hospital and happily settling back into life here at Casa Petersik (there’s nothing like a four day hospital stint to make you miss your house like crazy). Yes, we actually had an extended stay due to a pretty terrifying scare during Clara’s birth (an unexpected placental abruption paired with an umbilical cord prolapse had a slew of wonderful doctors and nurses performing an emergency c-section in under three minutes to ensure that Clara was a-ok). But although her delivery was anything but restful, we’re both over the moon that she’s 100% healthy and 1000% adorable (not that we’re biased or anything).

And now that we’re all back home, Clara really seems to be enjoying her new surroundings. In short: we feel like two of the luckiest people in the world. And we’re so thankful to be able to share this amazing time in our lives with such wonderful readers. Thank you all for the well wishes that you’ve passed along throughout our big journey to parenthood. We can’t wait to detail all the ways that our house grows and changes to accommodate a little person and we promise to share all the organization, storage, and simple living tips that we pick up along the way (while tackling even more DIY adventures and cheap-o room makeovers of course).

    Sorry to hear that the delivery was such a scary one. I’m so glad that you both came out of it okay. Rest and recover well, Sherry! (Well, as well as one can rest with a four-day-old baby, I guess.)

    I sincerely thought you were out having your baby!! I’m glad I was right. She’s so pretty, and Burger looks pleased with her! I’m happy you got through your very scary moment in one piece (well, two I guess, if you count Clara) and all is well. Congratulations!!

    I hope your emergency c-section recovery goes as well as mine did. It was much easier on me than my v-delivery on my first born.

    Clara (what a sweet name!) is just beautiful. I laughed when I read your post because I could just imagine you giving Clara the “full house tour” when you brought her home. So glad that mom, dad, baby (and burger!) are happy and healthy.

    CONGRATULATIONS! Clara is a beautiful name, and she is the most perfect beautiful baby I’ve ever seen. Seriously, so cute! May 14th is my Grandmothers birthday, and we just celebrated her 87th birthday. Happy birthday Clara!

    Oh my god she’s adorable!
    I actually gasped as the page loaded and I saw that baby picture. Then I said out loud “I knew it!”. hehe.

    So happy that everything worked out well. The same thing happened to my friend (the umbilical cord complication and following emergency C-section). I understand how terrifying it must have been but luckily everything was OK in the end (my friend’s baby also had no further problems).

    So congratulations to you all and enjoy your beautiful baby! You guys are the cutest family ever!

    P.S.: Burger is sooo adorable as well!

    Wow. I kind of wondered whether you were off having a baby. . so much for going past your due date. :) So glad to hear that everything turned out okay and your little girl is safe and sound. She is beautiful and her name is lovely. Hope you are feeling better after the c-section.

    Congratulations! the beanette is beautiful and completely adorable!

    As for your scary birth story – I had a scary birth for my 9 year old (umbilical cord around neck, leading to emergency C), and my 4 year was a premiee (also leading to an emergency C)… but with God’s grace they are both HEALTHY!!! and So am I!!! I know every hurts right now (even your heart, since it is so full:) ), but soon, it will all be better, and you will be able to really enjoy the beanette!
