Even though the last thing we needed were more pillows (we have a ton of them that we like to migrate from room to room) we just couldn’t pass up these fun yellow beauties from Target. So for 24 bucks a pop we took two of them home:
Sure we’ve found cheaper pillows (like this $2.50 guy from Bed Bath & Beyond) but we can’t deny how much color and fun they bring to our living room, especially since they complement the patterned yellow rug and even seem to work with the fun geometric pillow on the slipper chair nearby. Lately we’ve really been loving a few pops of bright hue in a room to wake things up for summer.
So if you want to make these babies yours, check them out right here. Oh and be sure to click the alternate photo to see the back (we love that pattern too).
They’re just so ruffled and fun that we couldn’t leave without tossing them in our cart! What have you guys snatched up as of late? Any favorite finds from Target, HomeGoods, West Elm, or beyond? What about eBay and Craigslist? Do tell.
Note: Target didn’t pay or perk us for this post or gift us the pillows- we just fell in love, bought ’em, and wanted to share the goods.

Every time I go pillow shopping I think about your $2.50 pillow find and try to beat it. It hasn’t happened yet but I have found a $50 Tommy Bahama white cable knit pillow for $4.50 at BB&B.
YoungHouseLove says
That’s quite a steal! Don’t you love BB&B for clearance pillows?!

I just started a new blog (three posts in- hooray!) and actually posted this morning about some steals I recently found, including some wannabe Pottery Barn pillows from TJ Maxx Home Goods and a steal Craigslist dresser/TV stand that we refinished. And speaking of that great yellow rug, check out the YHL reference in my post :) What can I say… great minds think alike!
Amanda @ longroadset says
Love how they play off the rug. It seems to make that room appear warmer. I recently got a new bed spread we’d been eyeing for a while for 50% off. It’s this realy nice blue fabric that’s tufted on the front. The side you lay under is really comfy though. And then a trip to Lowe’s brought me new curtains for almost every room. I got some really heavy blue tweed curtains for the bedroom. And some shears and stripped curtains for the guest bedroom, and a nice brown tie-up curtain for our bathroom. Only cost me 45 bucks for everything I<3sales.
Kristina says
Last week at home goods I found a nightstand and a sort of hutch desk in this really pretty blue. Both were on clearance for $150 total. They really compliment our master bedroom that is a mixture of chocolate and copper hues.
Michelle says
A couple of weeks ago I bought 2 pillows at TJ Maxx for $10! That’s right…they were a pair and it was $10 for both. The best part is that they are brown, sea glass, and green…which works well in all of our rooms. I was so excited that I called about 3 people when I left the store to tell them about my great deal. And then here I am telling you about it! haha.
Jessica @ How Sweet says
I love fun pillows. My grandma had so many cool ones and I inherited them from her!
Megan says
Girl, I’ve been eyeing those for weeks! I just bought some white and yellow embroidered placemats from Target that would totally complement the pillows if they were in our office. I think you’ve put the nail in the coffin for me!
hi-d says
I’ve been wanting to get or make some new pillows for some time now. I love these!
We recently got a great deal on a tall cabinet/pantry on Craigslist for $60. In Lowe’s they were going for $218. Now we have a place to store the mongo package of tp from Costco, linens, towels, etc…
Jennifer says
I saw those last week and loved them, but unfortunately yellow is not a color that goes with anything in my house! Bummer! Did you see the grey-green-ish ones with the birds? I’m still dreaming of those. I might have to bring those home this week!

Oh yeah those were great too! Loved them!

PS I need to stop being a wuss and just buy cute pillows a la John and Sherry!

I love those pillows! I haven’t bought anything recently, but I’ve been working on our wedding registries, and I am swooning over all kinds of adorable kitchen stuff at Anthropologie (including our everyday dishes “Sliced Persimmon” and some YHL inspired items like the monogram mugs and a white ceramic egg crate).
On Etsy I recently found some adorable pillows at the shop Olive, including some in an Orla Kiely fabric which matches my canisters from Target. No purchases yet, but I’m tempted!
Caitlin @ Hernando House says
Like Michelle I recently started a new blog and was just about to post about some of the things we’ve snagged recently. Although the most recent snag was actually free: a neighbor was throwing away a square metal table base, so we added some felt pads to the legs and now it holds our firewood. (Why do we still have firewood? It’s nearly August and we live in Florida! But that would be a question for my husband, I guess) I’ll be sure to post pictures of that soon.
Ashley says
I recently snagged those pillows as well. I love them!

I recently got some great deals at thrift stores: http://ourhumbleabowed.wordpress.com/2010/07/28/gettin-thrifty-with-it/ I am proud of my 6 foot by 9 foot jute rug for a mere $12.50!
Laura in LA says
The pillows are very cute. With the print on the back, you really got two for the price of one!
Hilary says
Love the pops of yellow! Personally I prefer the other side of the pillow to the pinwheels but they’re both great!
We are in limbo right now waiting on a house (it’s a short sale) but I have pretty much designed how I want it to look in my head. I plan on using yellow as an accent color with little touches of it throughout the modestly-sized house.
Anne says
Love em! I do have a question for you and others though. I love throw pillows as a way to punch up a room and to change the “feel” of the room for different seasons. Plus, I get bored with the ones on the sofa every so often and just like to change things up a bit. But how on earth to store them all without them taking up LOTS of room? If they all had zip-off covers I’d take them off and keep just the covers. But a number of them don’t have covers that come off. I don’t want to get rid of them all because when the mood shifts again I’d like to be able to shop from my own pillow collection instead of spending money on new ones. So how many different pillows do you keep at any time? Any creative ideas for storing them without taking up lots of space? Especially if they won’t really work in other rooms.
Thanks!
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Anne,
We toss ours on the concealed shelves above our washer and dryer (maybe a closet or even under bed storage bins would work?). Good luck!

I swear, I cannot walk into Target for one thing. I bought a portable DVD player in there last week, and all I went in for was a bathing suit. I mean, come on!

I always see those pillows on target.com, I love how they look in your LR! I just bought a cool curtain panel from West Elm so I can make some pillow covers for my old pillows I don’t like any more, then I can change them out if I want. Found two ugly, pink, candlestick lamps at Goodwill for $3.50 for the pair! They both worked! So, a little glossy black spray paint and two nice new shades from the big W ($24.00) and now I have two nice lamps for about the price of one.
THEN my sister found me a faded old, wrought iron couch and table F-R-E-E. Again, $4 in glossy green Rustoleum and it’s a nice little seating area on the deck. I may even invest in new cushions, but even the faded, pale green ones that came with it are fine for a year or so.

Is that the PB Comfort Square slipcovered sofa? If so, do you like it?
I really want it, but I have been reading bad reviews about how it gets too saggy and unsupportive over time.
In lieu of the PB one, I am considering this one from JCP.

For the price of one PB sofa I could get both the sofa and love seat. Have any experience with JCP furniture??

Nope, we actually hate our PB Sofa (it’s the one in the den, the PB Basic). That one in the living room is a Rowe sofa and we LOVE IT! Here’s a post all about it: https://www.younghouselove.com/happy-happy-joy-joy/

Those pillows definitely bring a bright sunny “smile” to the room! I love them. We’ve had our couch since January (which was a big deal since we moved in the previous July!) and now, six months later we’ve finally purchased pillows!
We found pillows in the sale corner at West Elm. They are three different styles, all with the same color of lavender, for our couch and matching chair. Even though they were on sale, they were still about $100 total! It was worth it though, and we don’t make many splurges. So we love them!
I rarely post, but congrats on the Baby Center column! I adore Clara and appreciate all the knowledge you are always so willing to share. I check your blog daily and recommend it to everyone who will listen. =) Thanks for all the info (and humor!) you add to my day.

We have those same pillows- I LOVE Dwell- and I really really love the prices of Dwell for Target :)
Alisa says
I saw those last week when we made a trip out to Target! Everything we buy for our house has to match Wilma (our totally adorable and spoiled pup), and I remember running down the aisle when I saw them and picked one up and yelled at my husband “Wilma would look adorable next to these!” He apparently didn’t see that as a justification to buy new pillows so we left without them. I’m glad you guys got them, though! Now I can show him how practical they look :)
Chelsea@ThisFreshFossil says
I’ve totally been digging those great pillows at Target, too! Along with all the others in their Dwell Studio line. I bought one the other day because I couldn’t resist the blue zigzag design on the back, haha. And the price isn’t too bad, either.
This past weekend I scored a ceramic garden stool on clearance at a garden store for $30! I was pretty stoked, especially when I saw identical ones at Target for $100. I’m totally going back today to snag another one if they’ve got any left! :)
Love those yellow pillows with your rug! Yellow is just so summery and fun!

CUUUTTE. I love the yellow pinwheels!
I usually find awesome steals at HomeSense (Canadian HomeGoods), the problem is finding places to put them!
Kate says
I haven’t bought any steals lately (no money to spend on decorating, unfortunately), but I am working on a throw quilt for the living room! It has all different patterns of blues and whites. Even better, it’s made all from materials that were left over from previous projects or given to me by friends who no longer needed them, so it’a going to only cost me a couple dollars in the end for quilt binding!

hi! i just recently started following your blog.. love it! i’m getting married in november and so i am preparing for our new nest. i’d love to get a sectional sofa in microfiber. however, i have two dogs that LOVE to lick their paws for hours and someone had told me that that her dogs had actually ruined the fabric of their couch (after years and years of wet spots that they had left behind). i don’t want a leather couch though… any ideas? also, i want to get a light colored couch but am worried about getting it dirty. do you think a dark chocolate couch with light beige walls (like the color you have on your walls) would look okay? i was thinking bright colored pillows (like yours) would brighten up the couch..
YoungHouseLove says
We’d definitely recommend a duck slipcover in any color (it’s a type of easy wash & super durable cotton). We have one on both of our very light sofas and they’re extremely dog/food/spit-up friendly. Plus you can toss it in the wash! Hope it helps.

Since you don’t like the PB sofa in your den and you’ve mentioned spending a lot of time there, why not switch the sofas? I’m sure you’ve thought about this and have a good enough reason, just thought I’d ask why. :)
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Alondra,
We’re sadly too cheap to replace a sofa that still functions relatively well. Plus with one wee one (and hopefully more down the line) we don’t want to spring for the sofa of our dreams until the wee ones are a bit less spit-up-prone. We wish it looked less frumpy and more streamlined, but perhaps someday we’ll sell it on Craigslist and upgrade to something a bit more “us” once the family is ready for something a bit nicer.

I have been having a really tough time finding the “perfect” throw pillows for as cheap as I want them… which $2.50 is right up my alley!! So instead I made my own sham and I’m in the throes of making more that I can mix and match and switch out as my little heart desires. Here is a link to the step by step directions of how to make a sham yourself!! http://temporary-nest.blogspot.com/2010/06/diy-project-pillow-sham.html
But your pillows are so cute that now I’m thinking of adding rosettes to my next sham! :)
As always, thanks for the inspiration! <3

Why did you have to write this post? I saw the same pillows the other day and successfully convinced myself I didn’t need them, but I am headed out the door now to get myself a pair.

Target, here I come!

I just bought the same one last week, along with a few more of Target’s Dwell Studio pillows. Everyone keeps asking where I got it so it seems to be a big hit!
As for “steals”, I made my first trip to HomeGoods the other day. Pure heaven.
Alyssa says
I saw a fun brown pillow priced at $20 but I didn’t want to pay that much for a pillow for my new house. But…Target hooked me up and I was able to get it for (drum roll…) $5.
And to add some color to my neutral couches, I got this (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_tJi_UxTlLU4/TBfIsTDYsqI/AAAAAAAAAJw/26HP2da6bEY/s1600/037.JPG) pillow cover for $3. It was originially $15 I believe. I used a pillow I already had and just put the cover over.
Target- it’s a great place!

I was so excited when I saw those pillows on your couch! I LOVE that pillow…so much in fact it became the inspiration to bring some yellow into my bedroom. My bed is all white and I picked that pillow up this spring to give it some color. Erin from Sutton Grace has some great tutorials that come pretty close to this pillow. I used one of her tutorials to make a pillow to compliment the yellow pinwheel pillow. It turned out pretty good…here is the link:
http://itsabaltimorelife.blogspot.com/2010/06/my-twist-on-erins-sunshine-pillow_15.html
Erin also has a tutorial for a rosette brooch that looks very similar to the pinwheels. You could make a whole bunch for a pillow. Check that out here:
